Noodles Hahn, LHP

Hahn was a starter, but I'll use him in the long relief and mop-up role. He's 27th all time in adjusted ERA+, and led the league in strikeouts 3 straight seasons.

As a side benefit, I now actually have a player who played his home games in the Palace of the Fans.

Too funny. I am on the cell phone talking about Noodles Hahn as we speak. He is like, "damn, these guys do their homework"

Who the hell you talking to? Outside assistance is illegal!

If we go on a little catcher run here, I dont want to lose this guy.

One of the best catchers of the 50's and 60's, an MVP and 3 time MVP candidate, a Gold Glover who went to 9 All Star Games:

Elston Howard

Catcher RH

'55-68

.274 avg (20+ points above league average) / .427 slg (40 points above league avg)

MVP (2 time top 3, 3 times top 10)

9 Time All Star

.348 High Batting Average (3x over 300)

2 Time Gold Glove Winner
Taken. I believe by Funkley in the 16th round.I know because I was going to pick him. Had to settle for Schang.

I HATE Dodgers stadium.  Place has no character.  Miss Yankee stadium and Fenway a lot.  Pac Bell is great too.   Dodger stadium is a pit.
Really? With the backdrop of the mountains, looking out - the sky as backdrop. It was a blue heaven... built into the hill. Loved it (the stadium itself isnt anything good, but how it is cut in, and the view you have of the field leading to the mountains backed by that blue, was a transcendant experience. Or maybe it was those brownies I ate? Or the yoshinoya).Of course, my home stadium here is Shea. A sewage treatment plant has more appeal than Shea.Pac Bell was very cool - mostly because of the water. Cold as hell though late season. My favorite is still Camden - the original neo-old style stadium. Ever been?
Never been to Camden. Dodger stadium and Shea are on the same level for me.
I am mixed on Fenway. Overall, its great because you are experiencing what they experienced, in many ways literally, from the early 20th c. On the other hand, because of that, those seats can be damn uncomfortable.
Avoid the grand stand seats. Bleachers, Box seats and the Monster seats are much more comfortable. I was on the Monster last Patriots day, between innings we watched the Marathon runners go by, Oh and I touched the Fisk Foul poll. Good Times

Ok, will shift gears here and go to my other strategy:

Might only end up with 2 lefties in the pen, but I would prefer better pitchers. Having two lefty starters helps, too.

With that said, a true closer can not hurt, especially one that is top 25 all time in saves, have a good adjusted ERA (122), was in the top 5 in saves for the late 80's and early 90's:

RHP Todd Worrell

(Is he available? I need to update my list, Ive missed a couple picks)

Screw it, I'll PM Spock my 1st pick. If my second pick comes around and I'm not there, then ya'll just gonna have to suffer again.

No picks from 4:00 - 8:30 last night, and then nine picks are made in about one hour? I thought for sure y'all wouldn't get to me until sometime later today.

Post-1994 Draft Results based on the season with the second highest number of Win Shares:

Win Shares Tally:

1) oso diablo: 533

2) GWB: 500

3) trefor3: 460

We'll see how it plays out on the cyber-field.

Note: This does not include the Negro League players.
Does this mean my team is destined for the cellar?

:wall:

you hurt a lot of people that day you said "LeBron".
I know. It was all my fault. I should be made to feel bad and guilty about an online draft for fun. It really is worth all the efforts of those who lambast me for doing something so coldhearted and selfish. Even if those efforts stretch well over a month, my awful actions warrant at least so much.
Julius Erving personally sent me an email saying you made him cry.
   (I would have taken Dr. J. over Lebron. Just not Chuck "big mouth overated" Barkley.

Not at all. Just means that oso cleaned our clock in accumulating Win Shares. The sim will based the player ratings on the stats, not the Win Shares. We're using 2nd highest season of Win Shares to choose the season of stats to use. Just thought it was interesting.

Don't know of anywhere with historical Win Shares that are viewable online. The Hardball Times has a database that you can download though. They also have the 2004 Win Shares online.

Weird. That link doesn't go to the historical Win Shares download anymore. If anyone wants it, shoot me a PM and I'll try to email it to you. I think I have it in Access and Excel form.
