***OFFICIAL*** FFA MLB Draft (1 Viewer)

Screw it. The list Capella sent me has six names on it. Five still remain. Cap might be off somewhere thinking, "I sent a list ... I won't be holding up the draft."

Since I took a pitcher for him last round, I'll go with his highest remaining position player:

23.04 2B Bill Mazeroski

Hope that's OK, Cap.

.
 meant that list to be for my next two picks.

thanks.

Since the back up catchers are flying off the board I figured I should grab one here. I'd really like a lefty to platoon with Buck but the lefty backstops I've looked at are either suspect at the plate or in the field. So I went with a righty and. . .

With Pick #13 in round 23 the Curse Reversing Idiots select. . .

23.13 Lance Parrish - C

8 Time All Star

3 Time Gold Glove Winner

.991 career fielding % at Catcher

#84 career HR's(324)

1700+ Career Hits

1000+ Career RBI's

Solid Backup
wait... wasn't a guy named "Lance Parrish" a Center in the NBA at some point, too?? Or is it just WAY too late at night? lol

is it too late at night or was there??I am way confused here... lol

I think his point was that he was surprised Tettleton was even selected.I was too
well, you shouldn't be shocked. guy could flat-out hit.frankly, i was a bit surprised myself that i went that way. when i went home that night, i made a list of 4 catchers that i wanted in the next round. Wally Schang was first on the list, but Spartans took him with the next pick. Daulton was on the list, too, but Tettleton was not. (Smokey Burgess was another; the 4th hasn't been picked.) But the more i looked into Tettleton's numbers, it became clear that he was the better pick for the team's needs. As some teams will soon discover, it isn't easy to find catchers who can hit well.

I'm cool with Burgess, but he was my plan B after you picked Tettleton. Thought Mr. Fruit Loops would fall a bit more -- maybe even be a 25th-rounder.But ... at least I have a righty-lefty combo in Lombardi and Burgess.

Robert Parish. He played until '97, not exactly an old timer. (although he was certainly damned old)

I'm going to play hockey for a couple hours if Kraft's pick and my pick come up but I'll check back in as soon as I get home.

23.14 Ken Singleton - OF

Switch-hitter

Played a mean right field

Great batting eye

Excellent power

Top 10 in MVP in 4 seasons (73, 75, 77, 79 --- hmm, all odd years)

yes... I think I realized that like 10 minutes after I went to sleep...it was definately way too late at night...

NO!!I'll check in in an hour or so, I am prepared to pick...
Cool, I can take my time then. I need to, really. Haven't kept up.
Ah, on second thought, I don't need that much time:Frank Chance, 1B/C

Chance is a Hall of Famer and a legend, although his hitting statistics aren't exactly impressive for a 1B. Playing in the deadball era his career slugging % was just .394, same as his OBP. While that OBP is pretty solid, Chance was more known for his defense and leadership. His nickname was the "Peerless Leader" and he was part of the legendary Tinker to Evers to Chance DP combination.

Chance will work well as a late-inning defensive replacement at 1B and an emergency catcher. I can already bring Lefty O'Doul and Roger Maris off the bench to pinch-hit so I'm not too worried about his lack of pop, although he can get on base and steal if need be.

Chance also ranks 21st all-time and 3rd at 1B in Win Shares per plate appearance. Don't know if that means anything but I did find it interesting.

Almost took him as my backup catcher but his defense behind the plate was god awful so I passed. Solid On Base Numbers though.

I'll be around for another 15 minutes or so looks like we can get back to me if you guys are ready. If not Funkley has a list from me.

Are we to have a seeding panel behind closed doors for this one? We are, slowly but surely, coming to a close.

Dolph Camilli, 1B

I was going to draft my backup 3B here, but since **** Allen and Joe Torre can both play 3B I figured it would be more useful to have another 1B and get a better bat.

Camilli was a lefthanded slugger who ranks 86th all time in OPS and 100th in Adjusted OPS+. Patient and powerful hitter with a .388 career OBP and .492 SLG. Won the 1941 NL MVP. Also a fairly highly regarded defensive player from what I read.

Camilli was also a former boxer who could end clubhouse disputes with nothing more than a cold stare. Teammate Leo Durocher said, "Nobody knew how well Dolph could fight because, quite frankly, nobody ever wanted to find out."

24.03 Jim Fregosi - SS

Very underrated because his peak years were during the 60s (extreme pitchers era) on mediocre West Coast teams. Bill James has him as the 15th best SS of all-time (not counting the modern guys). I almost took him when i took Tony Fernandez, but i figured he might slip some more.

A six-time All-Star. A Gold Glove in 1967.

Came up with the Angels for good at age 20 (after a cup of coffee as a teenager). By age 21, he was their everyday SS. By age 22, he was the team leader.

Pretty much the only SS of any note left who hit above the league averages, with an career Adjusted OPS of 113. That's a better mark than some guy named Cal Ripken, Jr.

GWB, it might be more interesting if you run your SIM using 3rd best year by Win Shares, rather than by the same rankings that will be used in the regular SIM.
