***OFFICIAL*** FFA MLB Draft (4 Viewers)

Larry, I'm not in this league or anything so I don't know how the sim stuff works, but Quantrill's career WHIP is 1.41.  That's pretty awful.  The reason his ERA isn't worse is because he's usually had strong closers pitching behind him to clean up his messes.  You can't really argue that this guy is any good.
:goodposting:Also, conveniently ignored by larry.Bad career WHIP, terrible run as a starter, few good but not really special seasons mixed in, and now has spent the past 3 years pitching in front of Gagne and Rivera. And then not only gets defended in an all-time draft, but compared to some of the greats (and I agree with Fingers being overrated, FWIW). :loco:
I didn't say he was better... I said that statistically he is comparable...whether there were outside causes doesn't really matter, since WIS isn't gonna take that into consideration and niether will, really the record books in 30 years...Fingers and Eck were better... they did great things...but to say that Quantrill isn't a respectable pick based on his #s as a relief pitcher is laughable...
How can you say that they're statistically comparable when their WHIPs are vastly different? This is a blatant lie.
when I drafted him solely 'cuz he didn't let a lot of runs across the plate, he is absolutely comparable...heck, he made an All Star Game as a MIDDLE RELIEVER!!how often has that happened?
Torre. his manager, selected him for the All star game and was ripped for it because he left many other deserving pichers off the squad.Interesting that you ignored the Baseball Reference list of his comparables. That's the most damaging info to your argument. His statistical equivalents are average pitchers at best, just like him. Baseball Prospectus considers him average if not overrated as well.

I wish the old guys didnt have such poor defensive grades. I would love to play Sam Crawford but that D in the field scares the crap out of me.
I sometimes sub in guys that don't even have defensive grades at certain positions (e.g. Will Clark at SS). It doesn't kill you. Sheff has a D/D rating in the OF and I think he's yet to make an error.
How many flyballs went for hits where A range outfielders would have caught it?
my centerfielder, Hamilton, has A+ range, but has made two errors so far this season. I forgive him though because I get alot of defensive plays with (++) next to them, so I figure the errors are balls that most guys wouldn't have gotten to.

Two questions about lefty/right matchups:(1) Can we see Sim stat breakdown for lefty/right splits pitchers and batters?(2) Where can you find this for real stats in a baseball reference style format? Thanks

Big Mac = benched.Gary Carter = benched. Both of them are hitting below .240, which is very unacceptable. In their place is Javy Lopez and Bill Lange.Lopez has been hitting the hell out of the ball in limited action, as has Lange, who will slide into the #2 hole behind Collins and with his uber-speed, hopefully swipe me some bags. Lange will be the CF, Belle slides over to RF, and Ruth goes to 1B, where he apparently had played at for a short time in 1920.

Well, if Cappy allowed us to trade, I'd be MORE than happy to discuss dealing Big Whiff....er, Big Mac.

Sure thing. How's about a .083 hitting John Olerud? No? I think Knobby is hitting right at a buck. :wall:

My bullpen cant win. I rest up grove to try him, and between he and sid "great raw numbers horrible results" fernandez, go into the 9th winning by 2, go out losing by 6. What a waste of another good starting performance.

All of a sudden Foxx and Killebrew are going off so no more #####ing about them. Still, I seem to live and die by the home run.

My bad. I don't get that 1st season if I search under RP. You're not a cheat, just a sim - :fishing:
he flat out said "he had 4 season I could use on the sim". That's pitiful.
he had 4 seasons that were INCREDIBLE...he has another 6-7 seasons that were good...but I wanted one of the INCREDIBLE seasons... the ones with adjusted ERAs almost at 200 or above 200...I drafted him for those 4 seasons, even though he has like 6 other good ones...

Lost to Larry BOY in 11 innings. Quantrill pitched 2 scoreless. I wonder if a member of the Quantrill family works for WIS.com?
and you scored 3 off Smoltz in 1/3, the first runs scored on him this year...quit whining, your lucky it wasn't 5-2 after 9...
I wan't whining. Its just a game to me big guy.Quantrill has been incredible thus far. I hope he falls to earth, but only time will tell.
doubt it... Quantrill's sim season: 2003 34 LAD NL 2 5 89 0 0 0 21 1 77.3 61 18 15 2 15 44 3 0 291 1.75 4.03 231whip a little under 1, ERA of 1.75, 1 save, 89 games, a 231 adjusted ERA...he isn't gonna come down any time soon...

I thought we were using the Dennis Eckersly rule that you ignore the starter years.
you can ignore the starter's years, but we didn't have to...

Thanks LB. If you honestly drafted him based on 4 "sim worthy" seasons and not his career you sim-fished. No two ways about it. Legal, but that is what you did.
no, if he only had 4 great seasons and the rest was utter crap I wouldn't have picked him, too, 'cuz that isn't right...But he has another 6+ good seasons...

Only if you want to. That is the one thing we got flexibility on. If you want to dump the starter (high IP) seasons you can to get the more dominant (w/ less IP) reliever #'s but only if you take his 3rd best reliever year. If his 3rd best overall year is what you want that is fine too.
