Reggie Jackson and Rickey Henderson have both been benched, esp Jackson. Jackson was going to be my big power slugger, but I have gone with an OF of Henderson, Hamilton and Carey with Evans coming off the bench.Has anybody else benched a "star" player? I'm seriously considering benching Mickey Mantle. 0-3 w/ 3 K's today. At the very least moving him down in the order needs to start being considered. He's hitting somewhere around .200 and is near the league lead in K's. He's a B/A outfielder (which is better than what I have coming off my bench) and I have a big outfield but still...
This must be Colliflower's MO for the sim.Oh, UCONN -- that happened in this last game, too. I didn't notice it the first time around ... but this is actually from the game summary:That's awesome! I haven't had anything like this and don't read everybody elses box-score for every game, but I think somebody mentioned somebody charging the mound before. Not only that, but he got ejected from the game! Has that happened yet in this sim yet?Colliflower's inning from hell:IP H R ER BB K HR PC ERA (season)

.The Voodoo coach charging the mound :rotflmao: I didn't know the sim had this kind of action! Gotta read my box scores more closely from here on.Bottom 5: N.O. Blackened Voodoo

) and the Troopers fail to capitalize on 4 errors (and a rare good day from Mantle). 5 games back of Spock tied for second w/ Koya. 2 games out of the wild-card. On a more positive note... 2/27/2005 pm2 at BRINGIN' IT HOME™ 2/28/2005 am BRINGIN' IT HOME™ Nice to see John Martinez scheduled me a couple easy ones to get out of this skid.I put 100 on them back when they were something like +5000 (so that would be around 50 to 1) and I like that bet. Tourney will be wide open. They've got just about as good a chance as anybody. Their inconsistancy on the defensive end is what concerns me the most, but they could put together 6 games good enough to win against anybody.I got in on UCONN to win the tourney at 30 - 1. What does UCONN think of that?
I had a series against the Lebron team and I think a series against Colome.Spock might be up 5 games, but I think he has played less wuss teams than me at least, not sure about UCONN. Spock has a nice early hold on the division.
"ouch"I lost another game due to pitchers being left in too long and a late inning error (Joe Jackson misplays routine flyball and winning run scores.)![]()

You missed my meltdown on Friday. I had enough of like 4 out of 5 games lost by one run, almost all on bullpen blowups that sent me whining up a storm.Admittedly, not a pretty site.I lost another game due to pitchers being left in too long and a late inning error (Joe Jackson misplays routine flyball and winning run scores.)![]()

Koya is typing a lot. This can't be good.

This is the best idea I've heard in a long time.I'm convinced that the sim is failing because we are using third best year. This thing is 90% luck and has very little to do with who you drafted. I say for the next sim, the one without Larry and Capella, we just:
use ANY year we want
OR
We draft the same way, but we have a salary cap and you must "fit" your club inside of that number. You can use a guys best season and another guys 12th best season to get under the cap. That way we avoid things like the cheating/ 3rd year sim fishing that happened this time around.
The only problem w/ the sal cap is you equalize teams. A guy ends up making great picks but has to bring himself down to the level of competition by staying w/in the cap. I'm not against the best year thing, but don't think it is very representative of a guy's career. Some terrible all time players have great single seasons. Far fewer poor players have a 3rd season that matches up w/ the 3rd season's of Hall of Famers. The gist of it is there will be no perfect system. If you were honest w/ yourself and just drafted a deserving team you could have fun w/ the sim and not be so results oriented. If you cheated (sim-fished, plugged in wrong years) all you really did is cheat yourself. Pat yourself on the back if you end up winning the championship,This is the best idea I've heard in a long time.I'm convinced that the sim is failing because we are using third best year. That very well may be the case. I personally think it pulls the truly great players down and elevates the "accumulators" which is not something I prefer. I'd rather have a representation of a guy's peak (taking out the top couple years to make sure not to let in the "flukes" though) but that's just me.I dont do much gloating, but made up for it with #####ing. I can see that. I suppose what I realize is few players who arent "great" have 5 or more GREAT seasons. But true HoF's almost (if not all) do. So a 5th or 6th year of a HoF should still be say .300, or 35+ HRs... and their defensive abilities represented as well.I think you have a good number of players with 3 or 4 very good to great years but on a career level, didnt quite have enough (guidry, mattingly) to make that peak excellence sustain enough for true greatness. That very well may be the case. There really is no "right" way to do the sim. Just throwing some ideas out there. All you can do is set rules and hope everyone follows them.I can see that.
