If you extrapolate points from the last five races (which excludes RBR's Monaco debacle), McLaren is averaging 8 more points per race. At this rate, McLaren will reel in Red Bull in the standings by the Mexico round.

What looked like a promising weekend for Perez turned out to be just as bad as the others. In some ways, it exposed Checo's weaknesses even more than the races where he went out in Q1. He turned a front row start into a P8 before the DSQ. Verstappen started nine positions behind and passed him at the midway point of the race.
I'm probably the last idiot in this thread to come around to Perez being replaced but I think it's happening now.

Meanwhile Logan made a pass in the last 2 laps. Just sayin'
Haas was absolutely nowhere all weekend. Hulk was the first to make his first and second pit stops. Whatever he gained via the undercut was given back at the end of his stints and he crossed the line last. Magnussen ran a one stopper and didn't fare much better.
The team had been looking good lately but Ocon is starting to drag them down already.

The one thing I'm going to believe until I hear a better story is that the fuel wasn't "accidentally" fully removed. They made weight, but then the extra fuel was removed, and now under.

Utter dominance? Yes - I think that is over. There are 4 teams that can be competitive in any given weekend.
But, Red Bull still have a great car, and Max is probably still the best driver.
I would guess Verstappen will get multiple win in the final 10 races after the summer break.

There is a cap on tunnel time that is inverse to your position in the standings so that is surely some of it.
Also not implausible that with such a large advantage Red Bull has turned a good chunk of attention to the new 2026 car.

Little bit of everything really.
Red Bull had already extracted a lot of performance out of the car - so they had a smaller upside.
Red Bull chief designer - Adrian Newey was in the process of leaving the team, and was also designing the Red Bull HyperCar
Not all of the upgrades to Red Bull were actual improvements.
McLaren brought some significant upgrades early in the season.
Mercedes finally got a handle on their car and unlocked a bit of potential.
Ferrari run hot and cold - they have had performance, but then throw it away with strategy. They also seem to have struggled in recent weeks to get the car set-up correct.

Albon-Sainz is a solid driver lineup for Williams. Carlito will definitely be the best measuring stick for Albon since he's been at Grove. Hopefully the team can give them a car that's more consistently at the front of the midfield than the FW46.
Some team outside the current big four is going to get it right in 2026 and make a leap. Sainz will look like a genius if it happens to be Williams. If it's Audi, not so much.

I don't know how big of a factor the wind tunnel time restrictions have been. There hasn't been a lot of change in the pecking order since they've been in effect. Even when some cars suffered with aero related performance problems like the porpoising early last year, teams were able to get it sorted without a lot of complaints about tunnel time. If the team has efficient processes in place and good correlation between the tunnel results and their other design tools, the amount of time collecting data should be sufficient.
Teams are restricted from doing any wind tunnel or CFD work on the 2026 spec cars until 1/1/2025.

Considering that there are 10 teams, and only a couple have a chance every weekend to win, it would be insanely boring.

Only four 2025 seats are left: Mercedes, RB, Alpine and Sauber. Perez is under contract so let's call that one occupied for the moment.

Sainz was the only other name that made sense because those Max rumors are too silly even for silly season.
RB: Lawson because Red Bull will lose him if he's not promoted. If Red Bull thought highly of Ricciardo, they wouldn't have made their announcement today. Isak Hadjar will get the Lawson treatment if he wins F2.
Alpine: Now that Sainz is set they have to decide between Jack Doohan or Mick Schumacher. I think Doohan is better but feel bad for Young Mick because his one shot came in an absolutely evil Haas car.

Confidence in this project is at an all time low but there's never a shortage of guys with a superlicense and a helmet. Hulk turns 37 next month so they don't need another old driver. 2025 is another gap year for the team before Audi takes over. If it was my team, I'd probably keep Zhou and his big money for another year which is the most boring, uninspiring choice imaginable.

I was reading about Verstappen getting flak because of his sim racing, and I don't really know what sim racing was, so I looked it up, seems very cool.
Then I was thinking that would make a fun sports bar concept, so I started looking around, and there is an F1 arcade in Boston, which I had no idea.
That looks insanely fun, I'm going next month.

I did an F1 sim in Vegas earlier this month that was a blast, but it was only four of us.

It sounds like Jack Doohan will be confirmed at Alpine for 2025. He doesn't come with the greatest resume coming up through the feeder series. He hasn't won a championship since his karting days although he was probably the best F2 driver in the second half of last season. He has tested with the team in 2023 and 2024 so they have some data on him.

Hadn't seen those venues yet, pretty neat idea. I've been iRacing for about 4 years and run into (not literally) multiple IndyCar and NASCAR drivers over that time, but haven't seen Max yet. I actually run weekly in a league with a retired NASCAR driver. I think the complaint with Max is that he is on racing at 2am before he has a race that day. I can't say I haven't gotten sucked in to being on when I should be in bed but then I'm not having to go out and operate a million dollar piece of equipment on the edge when I wake up groggy.

One good thing about following a sport where pretty much every athlete is an entitled rich kid, is that when someone questions the activities of a three time world champion-and best driver in the world-we don't get a canned PR answer, and instead, Verstappen simply says

Antonelli to Mercedes is supposedly going to be announced the race after next in Monza. I guess it makes more sense to do it in Kimi's homeland than Max's. It's also a bit of a gesture at Ferrari who got beaten out on a generational Italian talent.
The new potential name in the frame at Sauber is Brazilian Gabriel Bortoleto. He won F3 last year and currently sits second in F2 behind Hadjar. Bortoleto is a McLaren junior but I doubt they'd stand in his way too much because the papaya team looks set at the moment. There hasn't been a Brazilian on the grid since 2020 when (Miami born) Pietro Fittipaldi subbed at Haas after Grosjean's fiery crash.
I guess there's also the end of the Horner business but that's an HR matter.

Alonso is signed through 2026 when he'll be 45 years old. Lance Stroll will have run over 200 GPs by then which would put him into the top twenty all-time for number of race starts.
It's extra silly to speculate about the silly season two years out bu if the Aston Honda proves to be a competitive package in 2026 (and Fred decides to finally call it quits), it'll be the prize seat available for 2027
