*****OFFICIAL FORMULA ONE GRAND PRIX THREAD***** (5 Viewers)

Brazilian GP at Interlagos. No complaints about the track from me this week. It's a sprint weekend with convenient session times (Sao Paulo is +1 from EDT). The track has been resurfaced which is a variable especially if there's rain. Max is probably going to take a grid penalty on Sunday so the door is ajar for Norris to keep the championship battle alive.

MotoGP stops in Malaysia at the Sepang circuit, which I still miss in F1 but Singapore is better for the business of F1. The MotoGP season finale at Valencia is in jeopardy because of the floods there. This weekend is the penultimate round so there's some confusion around whether this will be it for the season. The races are early AM on the East coast but I'll be able to watch them live at midnight.

You definitely want to have an odd numbered grid spot at Interlagos. It's the clean side of the track with a better entry into turn one.

Norris needs to watch out for Leclerc charging up on his right. Everyone will be starting on mediums for the sprint which may mitigate some of this but most drivers will start the grand prix on softs.

Kind of Funny - Max found himself in a tough spot with that fight with Piastri - could not afford contact there - as opposed to his battles with Lando - when Max is happy to make contact if it takes both drivers out.

Verstappen under investigation following the sprint race - getting along side Piastri while under VSC.

It was pretty obvious at the time - but I was not sure exactly when the VSC ended. I assume this will be a 5-second penalty, and drop him one spot in the sprint race.

If they hit Max with the penalty, the FIA will be attempting to counter-act McLaren's befuddling team orders...

He got it, +5 sec that drops him to fourth. Another point gained for Lando

Next big test with be Quali - can both McLarens and Ferraris get in front of Max - who then has a 5-spot grid penalty upcoming? Max will be able to quickly make up the grid penalty, but may not have enough to catch the front-runners - absent some on the track intervention.

Kind of a dull sprint race TBH. Hoping for better things tomorrow.
Yes and no. I thought the front-4 were setting up for a good finish, but for the VSC.

And there were some battles back in the pack - Checo had a descent race for a change - but TV coverage was glued to the front-4 all racing in a pack - and that meant no real drama other than Max passing Leclerc, and McLaren trying to screw things up on their own.

Tomorrow with Max getting the grid penalty, he will be up for several passes in the first couple of laps. And, we should see more racing in the midfield - Lawson, Bearman, Checo...

Quali - is at 7:30 AM local time.

Trying to factor in Daylight Savings for the US (but not Brazil) - and I think that makes Quali at 5:30 AM ET, and 2:30 AM PT.

Race is scheduled to start at 12:30 PM local, 10:30 AM ET, and 7:30 PT

So what do they do if they can’t have quali? Do it tomorrow morning?
Get up early - or maybe, for you and @Eephus it will be easier to stay up late!

I'm already staying up to 1AM to watch MotoGP from Malaysia. It's pretty much a must win situation for two-time defending champ Pecco Bagnaia after he crashed out of the sprint race.

I think the clocks changing helps me but I'll sleep in if I can.

Oohh. Just read that the 2024 rules do not have any specific provisions for setting a grid if qualifying is wiped out.

One option, according to the rules would be to revert to the times set in FP 3, or in the case of a sprint weekend, FP 1 - which would put Lando first and Max 15th - before the grid penalty.

Yes please. Wasn’t Bearman 3rd?

About as exciting a qualifying session as you could hope.

Personally would rather everyone race in dry conditions. But, the drama was undeniable.

A champion's drive for Max that will make his career highlights reel.

The rain created chaos but there was probably less actual overtaking than an average Interlagos race in the dry.

The Alpines would have been toast if DRS had been activated. Hats off to Enstone for a season saving result. 7th was a good result for Tsunoda after a stretch of unlucky races but I was stoked when he was holding down 3rd during the opening stint.

I'm officially a Max fan now. There's nothing about him I don't like. Being about 3-4 years into the sport I didn't want to root for Max, I thought it was like saying the Yankees were your favorite team.

And my Gasly on the podium preseason pick hits!

I'm a fan of his, too. He's so much fun to watch and I love his attitude.

Awesome pick. Max is a dangerous driver and I root for him to lose like I root against the Dodgers. It's been a tough week for me.
