Max p1, Russell p2, Oscar p3, Lando p4

McLaren order a driver swap at the end of the race. Does Oscar do it? :lmao:
Why not at that point. More interesting question is if Lando’s car is clearly faster, would they order a swap earlier in the race to help him move up without a slower piastri in the way?
Lots of conjecture that Mark Webber will tell Piastri not to help for politics within McLaren.

:tinfoilhat:

This scenario doesn't really help Piastri in either the short or long term. He obviously wants the WDC for himself but if that's not happening, he'll do what he asked to keep to keep the trophy in Woking.
That's why I like the early race hypothetical. Let's say early in the race it's
P1: Max
P2: Russell
P3: Antonelli
P4: Piastri
P5: Lando

But let's also say that Piastri's car has substantially less pace than Lando's.

Does McLaren ask Piastri to sacrifice his own small chance of the championship to avoid blocking Lando? If they do, does Piastri cooperate?

My expectation would be that both happen more slowly than they should.

Bad if not surprising news about Yuki. He got a better shot in F1 than a lot of guys but the results weren't there.

On the bright side, this is a positive for my F1 fantasy chances. My commitment to the bit cost both of my teams a lot of points this year.

I remember from one of the Drive to Survive seasons that Yuki wasn't a fan of the physical training required to be a F1 driver. He was complaining about running with a trainer. He seemed to only want to play video games and use the simulator to improve as a driver.
I'm not sure if that changed for him.

Really both teams should be satisfied.

McLaren just needs to get past turn 1 tomorrow, and there is nothing Max or Red Bull can do.

Lando wins Championship if:

Finishes in top-3; Does not matter where anyone else finishes.
Finishes anywhere ahead of Max and Oscar.

Max can win the Championship by finishing in the top-4, and ahead of Piastri.

If Max wins race, Lando has to finish in top 3.
If Max finishes 2nd, Lando has to finish in top-7 (ends level on points, and first tiebreaker is wins, which is also level - not sure beyond that)
If Max finishes 3rd, Lando can win outright by finishing in top-8
If Max finishes 4th, Lando wins out right with top-10, otherwise, level on points.
If Max is outside the top 4 - he cannot win the championship

Piastri can win the Championship by finishing 1st or 2nd.

If Piastri finishes 1st, he beats Verstappen, and would win Championship if Lando finishes outside the top-5
If Piastri finishes 2nd, he wins the Championship if Verstappen finishes 4th or lower, AND Norris finishes 10th or lower. (9th would be level on points and wins)

If the race order is Piastri, Verstappen - Piastri will win, if Lando finishes outside the top-5

If the race order is 1. Leclerc/Russell/wildcard, 2. Piastri, 3. Verstappen - then Verstappen wins if Norris finishes 9th or lower.

George, you have ONE JOB
I don't think he can catch Max to take him out...

The question will be, does Max take Lando out, and gift the championship to Piastri?

Would almost be fitting, considering Max was gifted his first title ...

If everyone does their part - McLaren should let Verstappen run off with the race, and then just run a comfortable race in 2nd and 3rd - with Piastri blocking any attempt from Mercedes or Ferrari to get in front of Norris.

Of course, if I am Red Bull and Max - then, I think I want a "poor" start, that keeps everyone bunched together going into turn 1, which increases the chances of one of the McLarens being taken out right from the start. You have to figure Norris has a 50-50 chance of botching this in first corner, then Max just has to outrace Piastri from there.

I am rooting for Norris to win.

But, It think the best drama would be something like Max and Norris come together, no damage to Max, but flat tire for Lando - that effectively takes him out of the points.

And, then the stewards penalize Max 10 seconds for causing the accident. That hands the victory and championship to Piastri.

Max and the pit wall go ballistic on the radio.

Maybe throw in a few dodgy swerves from Tsunoda while being lapped, and shenanigans from the Racing Bulls also...

...and Sonny Hayes goes off to race the Baja 1000

Engaging race.

Great season from Lando, Oscar and Max.

I think McLaren out-managed Red Bull in the final race. Piastri played a crucial role in keeping Max from backing up the field.

Congrats to Norris and McLaren and thanks Max for keeping it interesting down the stretch. I didn't get much else right in the pre-season prediction poll but I did manage to nail the WDC trifecta. The fantasy game didn't really sustain interest throughout the year but whomever's team was No Bearman, I'm Driving takes home the win.

The official last DRS assisted pass (for now) was Stroll overtaking Bearman for 9th on the final lap. We shall see soon enough what kind of racing comes with the new technical regulations.

That’s me. I’m counting on you guys putting up more of a fight next year

Helmut Marko is officially out at Red Bull - thus completing phase one of the house cleaning. Marko lasting only slightly longer than Horner.

This probably clears the way for Verstappen to leave after next season, once he has a chance to assess each of the teams under the new Regs.

I would guess Aston Martin would be the front runner to land Max, if Newey can deliver a strong car.

If Verstappen leaves I'll be out of reasons to hate on Red Bull. That would be disconcerting.

I wonder if the departures of Mateschitz, Newey, Horner, Marko and potentially Max could be a prelude to the Yoovidhya family selling off one or both of the Red Bull teams. Team valuations have to peak sometime and there's still manufacturer interest with private equity and Arab money wanting to enter the sport.
