Official Great Works Draft (3 Viewers)

First, all this subtle lit talk is giving me a woody. :) Second, I'm fairly certain I know Krista's target. It's good, but she can have it as it's been called the [other part of the world's] version of my novel, which I think I'll take when I get around to making a write up. It'll be sometime today.
I think you're up, team FlyLayne.Or you can wait until you've got it written up.

I'll be honest - I waited on making this pick because I wanted to think about what was available. While I've been talking up novels, Team BobbyLayne™ already has two novels, so I didn't want to load up on a category if noticed something else slip in another category.

I found something.

With pick 21.07 Team BobbyLayne™ selects -

The Histories - Herodotus - Non-Fiction

Too tired for a proper write-up, but I want to briefly address one thing: some people may claim that since some of this book was based on myths and legends, and later proven untrue, that it should be considered a work of fiction.

However, it is considered the first work of History in Western Culture, in that it founded the historical method. Herodotus visited many of the places he wrote about, investigated and spoke with most of the people (or their descendants) and attempted to be as historically accurate as possible. Hence I think it should be rightly considered non-fiction. While he certainly embellished his work with narrative flair, it's generally believed that he himself thought he was writing a semi-accurate account of the people and cultures of the ancient world.

I'll provide a write-up tomorrow, when I'm more awake. I just didn't want to hold up the draft in the morning.

OK

How my weekend went:

16th hole yesterday, I'm having a lousy day. Two 3-putt greens on the front side, later took a snowman on a par 5, I'm like +10 and can't wait for the round to end. Par 3, 178 yards, I pured a 5 iron that went 171 yards, kicked left on the first big hop, 2nd short hop, rolls about 10 feet and then

**CLANG**

It's in the hole.

Hole-in-one.

First ace evah.

   :whoosh:

Suck it, Tides.

:pokey: :loco:

It was a huge thrill, but actually I didn't realize it at first. We heard it hit the pin but I wasn't sure it had gone in until I got up to the green. I was playing with my 83 y.o. Uncle and my ten-year-old, who was just going bananas.

$400+ bar tab afterwards - bought a few rounds for the whole grille room. WTH, it'll never happen again.

:headbang:

 Nice one, BL! Congrats, man!

Now, what's the GWD equivalent of a hole-in-one? I'll be sure to let you have it and you can buy us a few rounds too.

The three day weekend started with a bang- we got about 7-8 picks on Saturday. Since then we've had what- 2 picks? Oh well, the clock returns tommorow.

Last two picks were excellent. Is there a more classic movie scene than Judy Garland singing "Over The Rainbow"? Personally I think it's the greatest single movie scene ever.

My Golden Gate Bridge write-up................

21.02 - The Golden Gate Bridge - Building/Structure

The Golden Gate Bridge was completed in 1937 and was the longest suspension bridge span in the world at that time, measuring 1.7 miles in length (including approaches). It was the first bridge ever to leap over the mouth of an ocean harbor. It was named one of the Seven Modern Wonders of the World by the American Society of Civil Engineers.

Some fun facts:

The original building project came in $1.3 million UNDER budget

Only 11 construction workers died during the 4 years it took to build the bridge

- Primarily due to innovative movable safety nets below the construction site

There are 80,000 miles (129,000 km) of wire in each of the two main cables; the total is sufficient to go around the world 5.79 times.

Each cable is 1 yard in diameter

Approximately 100,000 vehicles cross the bridge each day

It has been called the most photographed bridge in the world

The Golden Gate Bridge's paint color is orange vermillion, also called international orange

Cool. That fun facts link says 38 painters are employed full-time continuously touching up the paint on it. That's pretty astounding. Gives you an idea just how massive it is.
