This is an interesting pick. I think the problem we will have is that it opens a can of worms of drafting "former" records that have since been beaten because we don't like how they were beaten. According to baseball records, this is Bonds' recrod - there is no asterick, there is no secondary explanation. It's Bonds' record.

WTF thought the category was only for current records?

That wouldn't make much sense.

Bob Beamon jumping 2 1/2 feet farther than any other human being had ever done before was astounding.

Nobody cares that 20+ years later somebody went farther (was it Carl Lewis? ).

I don't think sports records need to be permanent to be selected. There were guys who broke the 4 minute mile almost immediately after Bannister. I think we should look at each individual record by itself, within it's own context. Even if a player were to someday hit 1000 home runs over a career, this would make THAT player great, but it wouldn't diminish Aaron any. Aaron's record, given his circumstances and among his peers, remains one of the great moments in sports no matter what happens later.

I'm going to start round 34 off with another album. It will be interesting to see how this one ends up getting judged, but I believe it to be the best in its genre and therefore it should go pretty high, although it is unlike anything else taken to this point.

And it is at this juncture that I must protest the blanket language filters on this site. There are occaisons where the F word is required. There are also occaisons where a certain word must be used that some find offensive, even when no offense is meant. It is one of those times.

This album won the grammy in 1974. It is considered still the finest work by its performer, and that praise is enormous when you review his massive collection of works that we have been given to listen to. This was the album that blew the doors off the entertainment industry and make him an icon. His greatest multiplied after this recording. At only 32 minutes long it is a titan in the album category up against hour long competition. But this 32 minutes keeps you on the edge of your seat the entire time. Laughing your f****** *** off every single second.
