Beautiful!!! Let us know how it plays once you get it. But you sold the SG? I've sold one guitar my entire life. I get too attached to them once I own them. Still have my first electric guitar purchased in 1984.Just today pulled the trigger on a guitar I've been lusting after.Any new CL purchases, O?
My main axe right now is the Yamaha SA2200. What a guitar. I'm looking to add to the collection Heritage 535/555 and more recently an Ibanez JSM100 (the John Scofield signature model).
After trolling CL, eBay and other for weeks for the JSM100, I was near ready to pull the trigger on one used -- they seem to go generally in the $1800+ range used. I checked in on my usual troll through new eBay listings during my train ride home tonight, and I see one for under $1400 with free shipping. Couldn't hit the Buy It Now button fast enough. The best part is I just sold off a Gibson SG that I bought and never played and an Eastman hollowbody that I haven't touched in months, and those two funded this purchase completely.

Heritage usese solid wood. Even the premium Gibsons use plywood. Seems like an easy choice to me since the price of the high end models is very close.By the way, the Gibson semi-hollows are, to the guys in the know, typically of much lower quality than other cheaper options, and way overpriced for what you get. These Japanese premium semi-hollows blow them out of the water. Another great option are Heritage guitars, which are made by the guys at the old Gibson plant (former Gibson employees who didn't move with the company when Gibson moved). They are supposedly better quality than the Gibson counterparts and a bunch cheaper. Never played one, but they're next on my list of guitars to add to the collection.
Turns out in guitars, like everything else, label whores pay more for less...

IN.I will definitely be challenged to keep up, but I'll give it a go.So who's up for learning jazz/rock standards together? We pick a song per week, link to some chords and tabs for it, we all practice and learn the song that week, upload audio/vids playing it, and then do a new tune the next week.

I have a Taylor. No idea what you're talking about.Anybody else with a Taylor get the stain from the inside of the case? Such bull####. I really hate them at this point.
I noticed a stain on the top of my guitar and assumed it came from one of the many latenight booze sessions at my place after I closed the bar and had people over. I couldn't get it off and just lived with it for a few years now. Finally out of curiosity I googled how to clean it and came up with a bunch of results from people with Taylors explaining exactly what happened to me, and that it's from the inside of the case somehow. It almost looks like a water stain, but it isn't. Or if you're familiar with what fungus on greens look like on a golf course...same look, just greyish.I have a Taylor. Thanks. Geez, that sucks. It's a Taylor case, I presume? We should rotate who picks the standard. It'll likely make for a more diverse selection. So who's up for learning jazz/rock standards together? Exactly what I was thinking. And maybe we do two weeks per tune instead of just one to give us more time with each?We should rotate who picks the standard. ing to follow along, but I am an uber novice. I will be watching and try to use the sources to see what I can do. I'd love to teach myself how to play, so I'm giving this a shot (in the background). Two weeks is better for me if that works.Otis said:Exactly what I was thinking. I've owned bc rich, Jackson, carvin, charvellle, Kramer, ibanez and a slew of metal types of guitars. I like the build quality of ESP most of the lot but that might just be personal preference. The biggest thing IMO is to make sure the pickup holes are a tight fit with the pickups. Some of them - especially Kramer - had a slew of guitars where it looks like the saw was drunk when cutting. Hard to explain but the ESP I have had always felt better put together. That said, if you want a metal guitar with an Un orthodox shape the Jackson Kelly or Robyn machete are excellent choices.
Thanks for the info. I had it in my head that ESP made better guitars, but I had little evidence to back that up.I've owned bc rich, Jackson, carvin, charvellle, Kramer, ibanez and a slew of metal types of guitars. I've heard little about the Cavallo other than it's the guy that used to be with Dean. Is this actually going to happen? Here's a Soundgarden song I picked up recently:Have we picked a tune yet?
Bose L1: http://youtu.be/ia-vbM4lwp0Hey saintsfan: Unfortunately, I know next to nothing about amps for acoustics. That's a whole world of complexity I've avoided thus far. I just use the house PA for all our performances or our rehearsal PA for practice coupled with an LR Baggs para acoustic DI/Preamp.
I did just recently purchase a Bose L1 compact for acoustic solo/duo performances and it sounds amazing with incredible feedback control (it's placed behind you so you use it as both a compact PA and a monitor). I know a number of acoustic artists use L1 systems on stage.
Good luck!
Okay, I think we're going to do this, seems like we have enough interest.Otis, you should choose the first standard.Exactly what I was thinking. First Im not a lead guy, and a novice rythmist at best.Okay, I think we're going to do this, seems like we have enough interest.
I was going to go straight jazz standard, because that's what I love these days and it seems to be the most typical teaching tool, but in order to have what I think will be some more widespread interest here, I'm going to go with something that I think may appeal more to the masses and have a little bit of something for everyone, and it's got a simple chord progression, and it's one we all probably know.
For the first tune, I select:
Santana - Black Magic Woman
Chord Progression (The first one listed here is accurate, not the second)
A version of the tab/solo (Haven't confirmed it's the best/most accurate)
Fellow guitar guys: Here's what I was doing this past Saturday night. Before you ask, yes, that's a leather vest, and no, I'm not a pretty man.

I have no idea what this means.Oh, and by the way, that Marshall is a fridge stocked with beer. My favorite piece of stage gear. Finally pulled the trigger on a 2004 American Telecaster on Ebay - lucked out, the thing is a beauty and is a player....Walked in to a music store today that I used to frequent years and years ago. man, if I weren't married with a kid I would probably have a "new guitar every month" problem. Things that were so expensive back when I was in college seem more reasonable now. $500 for a Fender Tele of some sort....$299 for a used, gorgeous red flame Ibanez double-cutaway hollow body. Cool stuff for thsoe of you still buying and playing.
