Why were there a ton of New Yorkers on there? Is that the only place they looked for people? I think half of the contestants are from New York or within a relatively short drive.
I think the only prerequisites for being on the show is that you smoke and curse like a sailor.

Which leaves it open to pretty much the entire restaurant industry. Always a lot of smokers amongst wait and kitchen staff. And cursing is pretty much at military levels.

I completely this was premiering last night. Did I miss any good drama?
I like Master Chef much better, but tuned in last night for HK. It's just the same old stuff. Same misfits making the same mistakes. The one girl complained because the kitchen was hectic. She said she had never worked in a "brigade" style kitchen like that and was overwelmed. And apparently she has never once watched this show before. How could you go into that show not knowing how to cook scallops and make risotto? One guy that was thrown out tried to sneak back into the kitchen. That was funny. He later came back a second time and asked could he come back in. But like most of the cast, he is probably a plant.

I wonder why that is.

Add Beef Wellington to that list and I say the same thing every season. I agree on Master Chef I like it better as well. Really at this point HK is getting boring.

Restaurant work can be stressful so I am sure that is part of it. But I really don't know.

Agreed on the boring part. I might make it through this season, it is a show I can put on while working and not care if I miss some of the dialogue. I used to really like the show, but it takes too long to get to the decent cooks only. Kind of like American Idol, I'll watch near the end with my wife, but the auditions are sometimes so ridiculous. The "bad" people on reality TV know they have to ham it up and act like tools to get TV time, alah whacked out lady with the puppet and the black girl who has to act all bad ### and fight with whacked out lady. Both of them know it is huge screen time if they fight a lot. Seeing as how Celebrity Apprentice is back on, it reminds me of Omarosa, who is literally famous for being an ####### and after the first two episodes, they are playing her up like crazy.ETA: Forgot to mention that I didn't even watch last season's HK. I think I missed one episode, got behind and didn't care. Hopefully, this one gets interesting soon.

Not really. JP is back.Felt like they just said "eff it" in regard to keeping up any pretense that it's not heavily scripted. Really stupid signature dish challenge in front of a live audience, with canned one-liners from Ramsey and the contestants. JP "sneaking" into the dining room behind Ramsey's back, and taking a terrible pratfall. On the plus side, the risotto is a different color this season.
I always liked JP. He was pretty fun to watch.

Yeah this is starting to be like Idol. Watch the first couple for the idiots. Watch the last couple for the strong performers. Skip the middle.

I couldn't believe that old bag brought a puppet. For a second I thought I was watching the Joe Schmo Show
Why? Do you think the ugly older lady would have gotten any screen time if she hadn't done that? That's what is making HK suck more and more every year. They bring on crazy/dumb contestants to get scenes like fat Blake Griffin not being able to repeat an order right back to Ramsey.

What was weird was the editing about Zack hanging in there and saving the whole kitchen for the men's side, but there was a second contestant in there with him the whole time who also didn't get kicked out. They didn't even mention him or put up a graphic with his name, so I'm not sure who it was. So I guess that the other survivor on the blue team probably won't be around long enough to care who he was, and that Zack will probably go farther.

I noticed it as well. I am guessing it was the guy who was cooking table side earlier.

That might be a nice change up. I caught the shows on Hulu last night. Looks like the guys absolutely suck again for the most part. Although there are a couple that seem decent. Obviously Zach is the pick of the litter there so far. Hard to say on the girls side but it looks like they are going to be the stronger team as they really only have a couple of serious losers. And definitely one of the right people went home. Dude blew it from the jump.

How did a chicken without potatoes get past Ramsay? This season has maybe 4 actual cooks.
He sent it out knowing the potatoes were missing. He thought they'd be ready in a minute or two and they'd get them out before the diner really noticed. But it took way too long and the diner did notice.

...and when the diner came up to the pass to complain, that part was obviously scripted. It was as cheesily done as JP's entrance, which felt odd in that it didn't pay off later in the episode. I guess that's just a seed for something in a later episode. But, those two segments were so obviously faked that it makes some other parts of the show seem more real... that these producers, the chefs, and Gordon can't act well enough to fool anyone when they try, so maybe some of the strange moments really are real?

I don't know about scripted per se. My guess is she would not go up to the pass on her own though so she had some coaching and was probably into it as her chance to be on TV. But yeah no one here is winning any Emmys soon so it's pretty easy to see when they try.

So was puppet lady a plant? She seemed to overact every scene and then boom she leaves with very little reason? While we have heard the info on Survivor and how much interaction the producers really have, this show seems even worse. I wonder if they really do have setups like this where someone is brought on to the show just to bring in some action the first couple weeks and then leave and the person was in on it the entire time. There was no explanation, no exit interview, just seemed really, really staged.

I missed the episode, but how/when did the puppet lady leave? Did Ramsey kick her out or was she hurt or something?

She just walked out. They had military folks (army?) wake them up very early and round them up outside. Before they did anything, she just quit.

well the fat chick and her got into it petty good the night before. Did seem kinda staged but that lady could have just been loco too and they didn;t wanna waste any more screen time with her....I personally think they can find enough crazy/dumb people for these shows without sending actors in.

They could, but real crazy people aren't as reliable as goofy people (don't have to be professional actors) told by producers how to act and when to quit. I don't think a show would really want someone who is legitimately crazy and attacks someone in a fight. In the "mainstream" reality shows, actual physical confrontations are usually unheard of, whereas screaming matches with overturned furniture and "restraining" by other cast members is shown. Real crazy people could potentially grab a knife in the kitchen and stab someone. That "quitting" seemed so staged. One second she is screaming about how tough she is and the next she just leaves with no exit interview or anything.

They need to restructure this show or pull the plug. It has turned into Jerry springer in the kitchen.

I don't want to watch trash argue. Unwatchable IMO. Turned it off as soon as the crazy lady took a break the first episode and haven't watched after.

Not sure how they can salvage it. Getting better chefs (I should say ACTUAL chefs) l, but after that not sure what else.

:goodposting:The people they pick for this is awful. I understand it makes for good TV, but, you have some sort of competence in the kitchen for God's sake.

:lmao: @ "skank parade"

Danielle having backup Wellingtons was the first time I've seen a cheftestant not completely flounder when called out by Ramsey. I think he looked pissed when she defanged his attack with the third wellington ready and right.

That said, she had to go. And Zack should be on the #### list for lying to Ramsey's face.

I lol'ed @ skank parade. And Zack is an idiot, I can't believe chef didn't give him a 'Get out!' for trying to put one past him. Did he think Ramsay wouldn't know? SMH...

That one girl looks cute, but I've yet to catch a full body shot.
Jessica, one of them that was up for elimination, has a couple of pics on her FB where she doesnt look too shabby.http://img6.imageshack.us/img6/6722/74016534658666212249710.jpghttp://img580.imageshack.us/img580/4342/41963634665625878220417.jpg

So I got caught up last night. Is the idea to try to pick completely dysfunctional men's teams? It's getting pretty tiresome really. I wasn't surprised Ramsey didn't let them skate on not nominating raw chicken chef. The right woman went home but he could've sent both and been better off.

The way that guy treated the younger guy over the lamb was unacceptable. IIRC that same guy messed up the lamb in an earlier episide and was kicked out of the kitchen. He yelled at him and bumped him as he walked by. Wish the younger dude would have sucker punched him and started an all-out brewhaha/food fight.

Younger guy is an idiot though. But that all looked like pretty standard kitchen sparks to me. Seen similar scenes many times during a rush. Once something sends the kitchen into the weeds everyone forgets their own priors and it can get ugly. Ramsey did what you do. Break them up for a minute and try to get everyone to calm down a bit.

Gotta be Jeremy, right? Didn't see him in the previews.
I would think Nedra, but you could be right.
Nearly 100% positive she was in the previews for the next episode. In the kitchen & arguing with Ray. Gotta be Jeremy.
Yeah I got caught up last night. The only person I didn't see in the previews was Jeremy. And really the guys will be better off I think if that's the case. But Nedra has now hacked off two contestants by getting them put up for no good reason. At some point being a snake is going to catch up with her.

Turned it off a month ago. Just couldn't stomach it any longer.

Have them all on my DVR so I may blaze through them on a Sunday or something.

How is it during the challenge everyone cooks the steak perfectly, but during service no one in the kitchen seems to be able cook a steak at all?
