Bill Clinton back in the public eye during the era of gifs and memes is something I had not previously considered, but he is a perfect match. The balloon stuff was excellent.  Almost worth enduring this awful election cycle for it.
no fan of Hilary/DNC/etc ... lifelong Republican voter, but, gotta agree here ... good on the old man

enjoy the golden years, Mr. President

Thought it was her best speech yet but the constant throat clearing had me so distracted it was driving me nuts to the point of just turning it off.

Still won't vote for her but I thought she had some really good lines for what it's worth.

That was a bit dramatic because I was thinking uh oh what if she has one if her coughing spells.

But I thought getting past her lousy style the speech itself was very good. I hate that constitutional amendment business though, I hope that just goes away.

Public speaking is pretty clearly not her thing as she has struggled with them over the years and comes off as really stale as well as not very believable most of the time but last night she pretty much just kept it simple and it worked for her.Thankfully she didn't have another of her coughing fits but it was getting dangerously close given her amount of throat clearing that was going on.

But again she didn't move the needle for me at all in regards to winning me over but I can at least say she did well given the stage she was on and the pressure involved.Bill and his reactions were priceless though as well as his falling asleep(once again).

This whole "it takes a village" thing is frustrating.  From her speech:  20 years ago I wrote a book called “It Takes a Village.”  A lot of people looked at the title and asked, what the heck do you mean by that?   This is what I mean. None of us can raise a family, build a business, heal a community or lift a country totally alone.

It takes a village to raise a family?  No, it takes two loving parents to raise a family.  The words "family" and "alone" make no sense together.  I think one of the biggest problems in our country is the decline of the family.  Too many single moms having to work more than one job to make ends meet.  Where are the fathers?

Hillary has a credibility issue with some people.
Agree but I also think Trump has a worse one. Hear me out.

People don't like Hillary because of her policies, for the most part, the GOP has been after her for about 20 years they hate her with the the fury also unmatched in politics.  But she could do the job because she is qualified and if elected she would not be an embarrassment.

Trump meanwhile has would be an embarrassment and likely led to hurting America's standing in the world today.

I don't think that's true at all.  Emails, corruption, and Benghazi are the punch lines around Hillary for Republicans.  They think she's a bad person that should be in jail and they certainly believe that in light of those things she is not fit for the office.

I am not going to get into Trump...he is what he is...I think the area where there is a disconnect is many on the right and middle do not see her as qualified...she is seen as someone with very limited accomplishments who would not have sniffed being a Senator or SoS if it weren't for her husband...she is a product of a rigged system (and the email leak seemed to verify that)...no need to get into a back and fourth about this because I am sure you disagree but there is a good-sized chunk of people who just don't buy into this notion that she is qualified to be President...

My point is because of Hillary's experiences in politics, a brief statement from a doctor might be met with some doubt.  I understand the point you are making. I wasn't judging Hillary vs Trump.

Can't find it but there is a very effective ad (no not the one with the kids watching Trump's potty mouth), but one with a who's who of conservatives/GOPs saying Trump is unfit to hold the job. Best part is the body language of Bill O'Reilly when he can't get Charles Krauthammer to endorse Trump.

Did you double check?

Ha I'd like to see that Krauthammer piece.

I will give Hillary points for at least acknowledging that she needs to 'repair the bonds of trust.' Yeah no  :censored:  Sherlock but that's progress.

And it has t always been a question of bad deeds or distrust for me, it's that all these scandals, if you take away the claims of criminality and evil intent, is just incredibly stupid, dumb judgement. That's a trait after 25 years, not just some singular mistake to recover from.

Raise  family, build business.   Can't do it without government-according to Hillary.

So wrong, wrong, & wrong. IMO

"Village" does not equal government- as far as I know Clinton has never even suggested that's the case with respect to her book and slogan. The slogan is more about looking out for one another and respecting one another in a broader sense.

No link & I may have went overboard in ASSUMING what she meant, but I do think that is her underlying message.  Could be wrong of course.

Clinton notes in the book many institutions responsible in some way for raising children, including: direct family, grandparents, neighbors, teachers, ministers, doctors, employers, politicians, nonprofits, faith communities, businesses, and international governmental groups.

Want to pay more taxes? Vote for HRC.

http://www.atr.org/full-list-hillary-s-planned-tax-hikes

Hillary’s formally proposed $1 trillion net tax increase consists of the following:

Income Tax Increase – $350 Billion: Clinton has proposedhttps://www.hillaryclinton.com/briefing/factsheets/2015/08/10/college-compact/ a $350 billion income tax hike in the form of a 28 percent cap on itemized deductions.

Business Tax Increase -- $275 Billion: Clinton has called for a tax hike of at least $275 billion through undefined business tax reform, as described in a Clinton campaignhttps://www.hillaryclinton.com/issues/infrastructure/ document.

“Fairness” Tax Increase -- $400 Billion: According to her published planhttps://www.hillaryclinton.com/brie...-by-restoring-basic-fairness-to-our-tax-code/, Clinton has called for a tax increase of “between $400 and $500 billion” by “restoring basic fairness to our tax code.” These proposals include a “fair share surcharge,” the taxing of carried interest capital gains as ordinary income, and a hike in the Death Tax.

But there are even more Clinton tax hike proposals not included in the tally above. Her campaign has failed to release specific details for many of her proposals. The true Clinton net tax hike figure is likely much higher than $1 trillion.

For instance:

Capital Gains Tax Increase -- Clinton has proposedhttps://www.hillaryclinton.com/briefing/factsheets/2015/07/24/encourage-long-term-growth/ an increase in the capital gains tax to counter the “tyranny of today’s earnings report.” Her plan calls for a byzantine capital gains tax regime with six rates. Her campaign has not put a dollar amount on this tax increase.

Tax on Stock Trading -- Clinton has proposedhttps://www.hillaryclinton.com/briefing/factsheets/2015/10/08/wall-street-work-for-main-street/ a new tax on stock trading. Costs associated with this new tax will be borne by millions of American families that hold 401(k)s, IRAs and other savings accounts. The tax increase would only further burden markets by discouraging trading and investment. Again, no dollar figure for this tax hike has been released by the Clinton campaign.

“Exit Tax” – Rather than reduce the extremely high, uncompetitive corporate tax rate, Clinton has proposedhttps://www.hillaryclinton.com/brie...8/ending-inversions-and-investing-in-america/ a series of measures aimed at inversions including an “exit tax” on income earned overseas. The term “exit tax” is used by the campaign itself. Her campaign document describing this proposal says it will raise $80 billion in tax revenue, but claims some of the $80 billion will be plowed into tax relief. How much? The campaign doesn't say.

This proposal completely fails to address the underlying causes behind inversions: The U.S. 39% corporate tax rate (35% federal rate plus an average state rate of 4%) and our "worldwide" system of taxation, which imposes tax on all American earnings worldwide. The average corporate rate in the developed world is 25%. Thirty-one of thirty-four developed countries have cut their corporate tax rate since 2000. The U.S. has not. Hillary's plan moves in the wrong direction.

Not surprised.  An ugly scenario.

Should the US examine what other countries have done and try to implement things that worked elsewhere here?  eg. corporate tax rates, national health care, etc.?

There's no chance of it actually becoming an amendment.

But for someone opposed to the Citizen's United ruling, what other options are there?
Personally I think it's pretty clear the USSC is about to swing. It was a 1 vote decision IIRC. As others have pointed out the court did not have to scrap the whole law. The part that bothers me is the permitting regulation of speech by not natural person entities, but I'd be very happy with the rest of the limitations on direct money contributions. Thing is politicians will never really regulate themselves unless it favors them. Personally to me the best idea going was the one that caught Bob McDonnell. The USSC struck that down 9-0 and I see no valid reason for doing so except protection of the political class.

Pay to Play is the problem, not quid pro quo.

I have never heard this argument, honestly

If she had respect for me, she'd stay out of my hair.
