Wow--what a beat down.  Worse than I even thought.  Where's this Hillary been?  No shouting.  Prepared.  Not shouty.  Can't contrast these two.  He's done after tonight.

I changed my title. It should be obvious to most people who watched the debate tonight that Hillary is qualified to be President, and Donald Trump is not. Hopefully her numbers will bounce back up after tonight.

In a sane world.
I was a Bernie Bro and will be voting Johnson. I am not a Hillary supporter. She's going to take the lead off this and never look back.

He was such a disaster that I don't think a great performance in the next two will matter. There's no reason to watch.

They are both bad, no denying that. She's still shady. But I think she can be president, and he just can't be. I do like him, but not for president.
Thought it was interesting that she was flat out afraid a couple of times when she was exposed on TPP and email and Trump rambled when the jugular was exposed.  That's said, that Hillary was Ali and could have fought anyone tonight.

I'm still disturbed that Hillay's staff destroyed evidence and think it needs to be investigated to its conclusion, but that non-shouty, incredibly prepared Hillary looked hella-Presidential and Trump looked like a schizophrenic.

Weird election cycle, but if I knew nothing about Hillary or the things she's done, I'd be very impressed by the quality of her debate performance.  It was excellent.  Credit where it's due.

This was true in 1960. Nixon won the 2nd and 3rd debate but people had stopped watching.

It was NOT true in 1984 or 2012. In both cases, Reagan and Obama lost the first debate and then rebounded. But that might have been possible because they were incumbents.

Both were also incumbents with economies better than when they took office, buys someone some debate leeway.

He got his clock cleaned. I was/am as anti-Hillary as any sane person on the forum, but I'd vote for her if I wasn't in a solid blue state. I watched to see if there was any way Trump could sway me to voting for him. Put the worst stuff behind him. Yeah, that didn't happen.

His performance was so poor that he's not going to be able to move past this. I know that Obama's loss in the first '12 debate wasn't a slam dunk like this one was. IDK about '84, but it would be difficult for me to imagine a worse performance than what we saw.

Trump cooked.   Came off as a kook.  That's not what surprised me...  I expected that in a 90 minute homework review.

What I didn't expect is how in control, poised and frankly Presidential Hillary was.  It was an exceptional performance.  If she had a sense of her life's ambition culminating in that moment and having to bridle her ambition while remaining sharp, she killed.

She must have known early on that Cocaine Don had lost it and was going to be easy prey.  Either way...  Amazing coup de grace.

Agreed. I'm actually all for firing up the hearings the day after Inauguration Day. But let's get there first with the sane option.

I understand that Gary Johnson will not be elected, but I don't think your thread title is accurate given he's still a candidate.

You liked the body double's performance?

Clinton CRUSHES Trump in post-debate polls

There you have it, folks. The polls are in, and the viewers have rendered their verdict: It was an absolute slaughter. CNN's poll shows 62 percent of those who watches the first debate felt that Hillary Clinton won, while only 27 percent said that Trump was the victor. A separate poll from PPP, meanwhile, also gave a win to Clinton, by a 51-40 margin.

For once, the pundits, the pollsters, and the people all agree. Now let’s just see how Trump reacts tomorrow.

Trump lady with Hannity just complained that Clinton crammed her head full of facts fro the debate and that Hillary was very smug which isn't presidential.

Whatever they are paying her is not enough

Are the polls internet polls?  I thought internet polls leaned to the right.  So if internet polls go 62-27 for Hillary in the debate, in the general public its much worse than that.

Clinton will go up 5 points.  Trump is going to implode.  He's due.

Really, do vegas casino take bets or only those questionable online one's?

Hillary is a 3-1 favorite IMO.

I think last night's debate wasn't good for either candidate. Trump was a rambling idiot and Hillary was knowledgable on the facts, no doubt about it. However, the folks not voting for Hillary or those undecided I don't think ever question her knowledge. They certainly question her judgement and I don't she how she addressed that last night. I think Clinton's biggest issue is likability and connecting with voters.  She tried to talk about her working class dad but that fell flat. I think she failed to connect with the voters, she really has a lot of Al Gore in her.

Perhaps Hillary gets a bump from last night but not enough to give her or her supporters a lot of breathing room.  I can't see Trump getting a bump from last night, pretty sure he did them all beforehand. Then again, never under estimate the stupidity of the American voter.

I feel like Wikileaks poses the biggest threat to a Clinton win and the way this email story has continued to build I have to believe they have a release that will damage Hillary.  I still think she wins but I no longer believe it will be an blowout.

Wondering this too....did the campaign wise up and stop pushing it?
Trump couldn't stop drinking.  Something he would make fun of..
To be fair...he should.  It was probably one of the dumbest things her campaign could have lied about and then the lie on top of it was pretty stupid too.  Lots of things to bag on Trump for....making fun of this absurdity isn't one of them.

Tobias is right; the polls are really bad. At 538 Hillary dropped 7 points this morning, from 58.5% to 51.5%. If those numbers hold a week from now, reflecting that the first debate made no difference, it's time to panic. Hell I'm panicking now.

But, as of yet, Hillary is not behind. She is tied or slightly ahead. She still has the electoral realities in her favor. No reason to be despondent. It's a fight. We need to win.
Who Won the Debate? Betting Markets Say Clinton

http://heavy.com/news/2016/09/who-won-the-debate-betting-markets-say-clinton/

"Clinton’s odds of winning the election at Predictwise, which aggregates data from betting markets, moved from 69 percent before the debate to 73 percent in the hour after it ended."

"The prediction market at PredictIt also showed a lot of movement following the debate. According to their data, Trump’s betting odds plunged from 39 to 31 percent."

"As New York Times’ Nate Cohn pointed out, Clinton’s margin in the CNN/ORC poll following Monday’s debate is similar to Mitt Romney’s margin over Barack Obama in the first presidential debate of 2012. The polls immediately shifted, with Romney even briefly leading."

She really did a masterful job of getting in side comments that infuriated Trump, like about being given $14mm, without just relentlessly trying to attack him.  Something the Cruz/Rubio/Jeb crowd couldn't do
