he wants to appoint a justice who would protect religious freedom
This came out a little weird. I realize it's the GOP's fault for sort of putting it in this framework, but this seems to be a strange argument that we're supporting the restriction of religious freedom. Which I do not think is correct. I mean if the GOP is wrong for framing it like that don't fall into the GOP's illogical way of thinking.

It is a real shame the impact of Democrat fear-mongers have on parents/children.
Democrat fear-mongers proposed building a wall and barring Muslims from entering the country?

Nice try.

You voted for the party of hate and you won. No need to be shy about it.

12 choices here:

1. Hillary lost because she is personally perceived as a liar and corrupt, and the public rejected her.

2. Hillary lost because she is perceived as too pro-Wall Street, trade, and open immigration, and the public wants a new direction on these issues.

3. Hillary lost because she represents the establishment and the public wants an outsider.

4. Hillary lost because she is a woman and the public just doesn't trust a woman to be President.

5. Hillary lost because she campaigned as Obama 2.0, this is really a rejection of him.

6. Hillary lost because Donald Trump is bigger than life and people preferred his personality to hers.

7. Hillary lost because the public is sick and tired of political correctness and that's what she represents to a lot of people; it was a rejection of modern day liberalism.

8. Hillary lost because she ran a terrible campaign.

9. Hillary lost because she pissed off people with her deplorables comment.

10. Hillary lost because James Comey wrote a letter 11 days ago; otherwise she wins.

11. Some of the above.

12. All of the above.

OMG! What am I going to tell my 5yo about something that hasn't happened and almost certainly won't happen? Woe is me. Grow up and get a hold of yourself. You sound like a fool.
That has been the campaign strategy.  Lots of fear-mongering.  Some of it has some basis, most of it is blown out of proportion.  I am sure Trump will try some things which will really get people spun up, but there will be pushback and he will not be able to do that much.  He certainly should not be able to impact things like gay marriage.

Please stop  In the wake of the election a lot of people who opposed Trump are pledging to make a concerted effort to listen to the grievances of those who voted for him.  The least you can do is slow a little empathy towards people who are extraordinarily upset today.  Whether you have kids or not, calling someone a fool for expressing anxiety about a parenting concern is a little out of line.

Just a side note:

- I have nothing but respect for Beavers and how she is feeling. However, we have put so much power in the hands of the president and the USSC that every change of presidential control is met with jaws agape and angst-ridden expressions like this.

We're not supposed to have whole lives hanging in the balance because ONE person takes over ONE office in this country.

Obama ALONE should not have been responsible for policies like this. Trump ALONE should not be responsible for changing it back. Congress and legislatures should be places where we come together as a people in our state or nations to make decisions like these, together.

We are basically voting for our USSC, which is not how it should be.
But we do, so where do we go from here?  Abortion and gay marriage will likely be pushed back to the states, making people move to accomplish them.  Further increasing the polarization in America and desire for a strong leadership type...

From Trump:

"Trump Said His First Priority If Elected Would Be To “Preserve And Protect Our Religious Liberty….We’re Going To Protect The First Amendment.” At the Iowa Faith and Family Coalition, Breitbart reported: “‘I will protect… because we’re not being protected,’ Trump said, referencing Christians and religious liberty. He said his first priority if elected President of the United States would be to ‘preserve and protect our religious liberty.’ ‘We’ll be fighting as part [of a] common core, and we’re going to protect totally the First Amendment,’ he vowed.” [Breitbart.com, 9/19/2015; Iowa Faith and Freedom Coalition, 9/19/2015]"

I did not vote for Trump, but I certain he will be not be successful in either of those proposals.

If they are legal they are good...whats the issue?

Are you insinuating Trump is going to round up legal citizens and kick them out?
No, I'm not insinuating anything. All I said was how people are feeling.

I don't buy for a second that you don't understand that in the wake of all the crap Trump said during the campaign, anyone who isn't a white christian male is feeling pretty worried today.

This is what you guys wanted. To "take your country back".

13.  Hillary lost because her most popular demographics are marginalized by the electoral college while those in which she is least popular are given outsize influence.

It's not the only reason of course, but if someone gets the most vote but doesn't win the election it damn sure belongs on the list, probably near the top of it TBH.

If republicans haven't figured out that the country is for gay marriage, abortions are never going to be banned and marijuana is on its way to being legalized, they're out of touch with the majority of Americans and reality.

You know who should be worried? People who don't follow the law.

There is a law or two that appear like they are going to be enforced going forward. Adjust accordingly.

I've seen this posted a bunch of times recently, and I'm baffled by where it's coming from.  A bunch of states would ban abortion tomorrow if they could.

Huh, I went to a destination lesbian wedding once.  Mexico.  Great times.  How would that be legal here, though?  The one in Mexico wasn't legal at all, just for show (pre 2015).

Not really. She's insane

She lost because she was never a good or trustworthy candidate.  You people that touted her as the only option need to pull your heads out of the sand.

Or don't.  Last night was very enjoyable and I laughed and laughed at the tears.  Ohhh, the person that I voted for that doesn't give a damn about anything other than money and power lost.

Cry me a river so I can get a few more chuckles in.

Why are they presumably illegal again?

Regardless, pretty funny to hear a bunch of white guys act all shocked that immigrants would be on edge today.

You all know exactly why. That's what you voted for.
This talking point hasn't made sense for a year and it never will.

Same way straight peeps get married outside the country. One place that wouldn't be a good idea is Jamaica ... Very anti lgbtLGBT

It does not matter.  Even in the Bush years the Supreme Court would have ruled the same way for gay marriage.  Pence/Trump can not change that.  Really, that page is over the top and proves my point.
It depends on who he appoints to the court.

I wonder what Nate Silver is tweeting now?
Nate Silver came out of this looking pretty good.  He gave Trump a much higher chance of winning than any other prognosticator or statistician.  He even nailed high possibility of an popular vote/electoral college split.  Of course I've been posting about that possibility for at least a month now too and I'm not taking a whole lot of solace in being right at the moment  :(

Clinton is a great leader and would be leaps and bounds better than Trump... But ... Who knew America was so sexist.
See, you lose me here and you're pulling the wrong lesson from last night.  You honestly believe she lost because of her gender, and not because she is generally unlikeable and untrustworthy?

Comparing both legal and illegal immigrants to double murderers?

Really?

Can we at least start the Trump era a little better than this?
Why are legal immigrants facing any action?

the oj thing was an example but if you are aghast by the comparison, ask Kate Steinle how they feel about it

What about the First Amendment scares you?

See, you lose me here and you're pulling the wrong lesson from last night.  You honestly believe she lost because of her gender, and not because she is generally unlikeable and untrustworthy?
No. there are many reasons why she lost. This statement is in reference to her leadership qualities as president, not her ability to campaign. She showed us today what a true leader does. Trump on the other hand, undermined democracy with his rigging rhetoric.

It depends on who he appoints to the court.
Replacing Scalia will be a wash and will not impact the court.  If Ginsburg gets ill, then the Dems will filibuster.  There will be a huge fight and she will not be replaced by a conservative.  The left will not let the court shift unless the GOP gets 60 senators.

Your citing BB to me... is also odd, but ok.

First of all Trump is NOT a friend of the 1st Amendment. It's one of the reasons I have opposed him.

Secondly, I guess I'm surprised you did not see my point? You yourself have fallen into the GOP/evan-con speak of 'religious liberty' being the binary choice in terms of gay rights. I mean you're not really for restricting religious liberty, right? IMO it's a false choice the way it has been presented.

1.  The post to which you replied with the OJ analogy clearly references kids feeling uneasy regardless of the legality of their immigration status.

2.  Does it really matter?  Seems to me that analogizing someone being a child of an illegal immigrant to murdering two people is maybe not that great, regardless of legal status.

Maybe you're right, but this would require the Democratic senators showing a lot more backbone than they have with Scalia's seat....

Actually, my brain hurts right now and I can't really process much more at the moment. So I'll revisit this discussion more in depth at a later date. It's 4th and 25 and I'm punting ?
