***Official Julius Thomas Hype Train*** (1 Viewer)

Rotoworld take:

A source tells the Denver Post free agent Julius Thomas is currently working out contract details with the Jaguars.
The Broncos didn't even reach out to Thomas to offer him a contract. So he'll flee from Peyton Manning to Blake Bortles and a whole bunch of cash. A one-dimensional and oft-injured player, Thomas will likely end up overpaid but the Jags are desperate to give Bortles as many weapons as possible.

Multiple sources telling me in past hour that reports of the Jaguars agreeing to a deal with Broncos UFA TE Julius Thomas are premature.
Oh sweet jesus plz, anywhere but Jacksonville.
Still beats Seattle and reports they were Jag's main comp.
I don't agree with your opinion. I think Wilson will develop into an elite QB, I think Bortles will be out of the league in two years.

The Jags have 80 million in cap space and nothing else going for them. If he signs with Jacksonville, to me it pretty much proves the speculation that he just wants the biggest contract and is done playing football.

or maybe he has a professional athlete ego and thinks he can get paid and help his team win. These guys do have a lot of confidence....

Yea well I got news for you. Wilson already developed into an elite QB. On an offense that does not throw very often and whose high target for a player since he's been the QB was 98 and that was due in large part to attrition at the position.

Also you JT's best trait is catching TD's. Playing with Lynch and a rushing QB is not ideal for a high TD total.

Woah! Wilson is already elite? Did I miss something?

I defend Wilson all I can but I think you are jumping the gun a bit. He is a good NFL QB with an elite RB and all time best defense. Sure he does some amazing things to win but lets see his role expanded a bit more before we call him elite. You can't knock him for having Lynch but calling him good is not a knock I just can't put him in the top 3-4 QBs at this point.

Apparently the last few seasons.

I really like the kid and think that hes well on his way. But if you actually watch him play, he has crazy flashes of brilliance followed by long stretches of mediocre play. A lot of that is system - but I think he'll keep improving.

Come on with that stuff man. It's not like I don't have DirecTV, Seattle games are not on TV or I don't watch the playoffs.

He actually had his worst statistical season last year which I'd chalk up to no Tate and injuries to WR's/TE's. But every year he's been in the NFL he's been top 10 in non-volume stats that matter like YPA and passer rating. All while not turning it over a lot and without adding it up I'd guess a TD/INT ratio that is also top 10.

The way the offense is designed and the weapons he has to work with don't make consistency easy. Serious question, how consistent do you think Peyton or Brady would have looked with Baldwin as their #1 WR and Kearse as arguably the second best option?

We're just gonna have to agree to disagree. I think'll he'll get there, but I don't think hes there.

Rotoworld:

The Denver Post expects the Jaguars to sign free agent Julius Thomas to a five-year contract worth "close" to $45 million.

A $9 million annual average would put Thomas significantly ahead of Rob Gronkowski's $6.9 million average, and just short of Jimmy Graham's $10 million. The Raiders are believed to have dropped out of the running for Thomas, setting their sights on Jermaine Gresham instead. Beyond Jacksonville, it's not entirely clear who's bidding on "Orange Julius" at this point.

I love Wilson's game, but you're jumping the gun with this elite crap. He has the best defense and a top 3 rb. That's the biggest factor to Seattle's success. He looks to be on his way, but elite doesn't accurately describe Wilson.

Agree. The confusion here is in the detail. An "elite" player should be, by definition, one of the top small handful of players. Wilson is a very good player on an elite TEAM, but, in a stand alone comp, he isn't elite as is Rodgers, manning, brady, and a few other accomplished QBS that have shown the ability to strap a team to their back and carry them.

Not confused. You can measure a QB two ways. One is wins, we know he does that. The other is stats. He's not a high volume passer so he'll never put down the yardage like some of those other players you call elite and most of the time fall short on TD's. But in terms of production per pass attempt, he's right there with all those QB's you just mentioned. That's just factual and he's done with worse weapons.

He just unconventional and I think that's the confusion in the detail. He's not and never will be a classic drop back passer but that does not take away from his effectiveness.

Seriously? Did you miss the part when Wilson won a SB and just went to another one? Did you miss the part where Wilson had better passing numbers than Brady did before he got Moss and the Gronk? Guess you also missed the part where Brady was once considered more of a game manager and not elite. Probably missed that part in 2013 when Gronk got hurt and he struggled.

Rotoworld take:

The Jaguars have an agreement in place with TE Julius Thomas.

There's no cold feet from Thomas' camp -- not when the Jags are going to pay him roughly $9M per season. It's an exorbitant sum for an injury-prone and one-dimensional player whose red-zone stats are inflated by Peyton Manning. Of course, the Jags have more than enough cap space to burn and had to fight off other interested clubs like the Seahawks/Raiders. Surrounding Blake Bortles with mismatch-creators is crucial even if they have to overpay.

Right, because it would be that hard to throw $8M a year at Murray to get him. Signs are pointing to Blackmon returning, might not last long but it looks like he'll get another chance.

I follow what you say and agree. I think what happens is, like you say, people measure players by wins or they measure them by stats and the gaudy stats that drive FF is what gets most of the responses here.

So, if he's not earning you 350+ fantasy points but we still try to make a case that he is elite/at the top, etc, we point out that he gets the job done (he's a winner with efficient stats where it matters). And then as soon as we do that, somebody comes out and says "Trent Dilfer was a winner too.. Has as many rings as player "X".

Just hard to drive the thought home in this forum. There are probably some football purists that hate FF that have a whole list of players they would rank very high that a lot of us would overlook. I imagine Wilson probably is one of them because forget the stats, he just seems to have that intangible "it". You just feel like he can get the job done and he doesn't have to get 48 TDs to prove he belongs (to me).

You were referring to consistency, and I'm telling you Tom Brady was pretty damn consistent, throwing the ball to garbage can targets.

I love Russell Wilson, and I'll rush to his side if anyone bashes him, but your comment about Brady not showing consistency with less than elite WRs is just plain wrong.

I think he was less consistent than Wilson, sorry sensitive Brady fan but that's just how it goes. All QB's will have times they are not consistent, but when you have elite weapons to work with it sure helps maintain more consistency.

And the hits just keep on coming. Dynasty owners of these guys are all reeling. Maclin, Thomas, Marshall, McCoy, Torrey Smith. Only Lynch and Cobb have kept their value.

Julius Thomas took the most money he could get from a warm-weather team playing where there's no state income tax. Reportedly, the Broncos did not make him an offer to stay.

Though he was hurt in 2014, his value to the offense from the Rams' game vs Denver to the finish line was pretty minimal. Targeted only a couple of times a game and Peyton kept looking elsewhere to throw.

Sharpe just doesn't know when to shut up... I cringe whenever he is in TV... So biased... Easily the worst of the former players

And thats pretty much when Peytons season tanked.

A healthy Julius is when Peyton was at his nastiest in denver

Rotoworld:

Julius Thomas is expected to be a focal point for the Jaguars immediately.

The Jags didn't give Thomas a $46 million contract for fun. They're going to want him involved early and often as a pass-catcher, the area where he excels. ESPN reports OC Greg Olsen is lining Thomas up in "various spots," and we'd expect Thomas to be split off the formation a ton just like he was in Denver. The problem is he's going from Peyton Manning to Blake Bortles, therefore losing a massive amount of red-zone opportunity and efficiency. Thomas' value has been propped up by his 24 touchdowns in his last 27 games with Peyton.

Didn't the argument "They didn't pay him so much money to block" kinda run out of steam with Jared Cook?

TEs in bad, run-first offenses rarely exceed low-end TE1 numbers.
