Gronk is TE2 at worst. He's more than a year younger than both JT and Cameron with 5x the track record. He's two years younger than Jimmy Graham and has out produced him too. Guys get hurt, it happens.

I don't trust bad backs. I know he's young but *today* I wouldn't trade any of the top 3 TEs for him straight up. No guarantee he comes back as the same "Gronk" and he's certainly not coming back to the same Patriots team. Just my opinion.

Obviously YMMV. But I'll ask in return what guarantees do we have on Julius Thomas? Would you be the least bit surprised if Manning retires after this year and Thomas is a 600/5 guy moving forward without him?

You could be right. What guarantee do we have that Gronk's back won't act up after week 12 and he misses the rest of the season? Or misses time again next year? And Brady's 36 so he's no spring chicken either.
I have all 3 of the current top 3 TEs in one league or another, and I have zero interest in offering any of them to the Gronkowski owners. So my original question was, are any JThomas owners trying to trade for Gronkowski?

In answer to the original ? I'd gladly move him and add something significant for Gronk -- but that's not gonna fly in any of my leagues. The issue, I think, in trying to sell Julius (or any TE right now) is the depth at the position. Why give up a core player for Thomas when you can get a good enough TE (Gates, Gonzo, Olsen, until this week Daniels, etc) almost for free?
Because Thomas is putting up elite numbers right now? Out of wrs and tes it goes Graham -> dez -> Julius.

We're talking about his dynasty value, which involves a bit more than what he is doing right now. Not to mention that his current TD pace is completely unsustainable. He's not catching 20 TD passes and shattering the all time TE record this year dude, sorry to break it to you.

It sounds crazy at first glance, but considering he is a favored RZ target of the best QB in the game that is operating the best offense in the NFL and may break the single season passing touchdown record himself, it's not exactly preposterous.
Beat me to it. So a beast of a te on a possible record shattering offense which is on pace to break yard and tds has no chance to break a te td record. Thanks dude!
I love how people are so quick to assume that records can't be broken.... why not??? the 6td's that he has through 5 games have everything to do with Peyton Manning running this offense... as long as this offense continues to keep rolling, and everyone stays healthy.. i don't see why he can't produce at least 12-13 td's the way he is being utilized.....
17 is a lot... but it isn't far fetched to think at this point.. the way the Broncos are playing is ridiculous... who knows what kind of records might be broken.. hell Welker might even break 20 TD's at this pace.. he might even break Moss's record... who knows! at this point.. i would be happy with my entire fantasy lineup being filled with the Bronco's WR's, and Julius Thomas every week.. they are all producing week in and week out
the most important thing to take away from their offense, and strongest argument for the possibility of Julius breaking any records... is defenses are keying on the #1 and #2 options on this offense, which are Demarius Thomas and Wes Welker... Eric Decker and Julius Thomas are going to continue to get rewarded all season long.. not to mention Julius Thomas is a huge match-up nightmare, and the perfect yin to Welker's yang in the slot.. and of course that he continues to be a focal point of their red zone offense

If Graham keeps going catchless and Gronk never plays, OJT may end up as TE1 for 2013.

13 point swing against me in one of my games. That 13 points would really help right now although his RB's had a crazy day anyway.
Same here...I have manning and thomas and my opponent had moreno. So for me it was a 26 pt swing and then moreno scored...thats probably gonna be the deciding factor in my loss...sucks...but still very encouraged by the play and involvement of thomas in this offense. It sounds crazy but he has kind of displaced demaryius as payton's first read in the red zone...
i have both JT and Gronkowski and can start both, using one as a flex.
It feels like the market is way down for trading a TE ... There are so many good TEs right now. How many leagues is Jordan Reed available in?
Most teams are going to only carry/start one TE. Thomas may be top 5 but the dropoff doesn't seem to be as big as it once was and what you're going to get for him probably isn't as much as you'd think.

10 TEs averaged over 6 targets a week last year. Another 11 TEs averaged between 5 and 6 targets per game, including Tony Scheffler, Jared Cook, Jacob Tamme, and Ben Watson. Coming into this week, Julius ranked 9th in targets per game among TEs.
Of course, the QUALITY of those targets is another matter entirely.
As an owner of both Thomas and Gronk, I agree with you that it would take more than Thomas + 2014 1st to get Gronk, unless that 1st was guaranteed top-3 (and even then... I don't know). Since I do own both Gronk and Thomas, I've been getting a lot of inquiries about Thomas from teams that hope I view him as expendable. Most are just a waste of everyone's time, but I've gotten a couple of serious offers, too.
DLF started up a new round of dynasty mocks, and they have Julius Thomas going in the 3rd round now. I was offered Finley and a 2015 first for Thomas, but shot it down. Obviously none of this means much for your specific situation- ultimately, his market is whatever your leaguemates are willing to pay- just trying to give some more datapoints.

I drafted him but that was in a 12 team, 20 round ffpc draft where TEs are awarded 1.5 PPR. In my 10-teamer I picked him up after week 1.

Grabbed Cameron late in draft and got Thomas off WW before week 1 started. This is a ten man league though

It depends on roster size, and when the draft took place. A lot of people start drafting in the first couple of weeks of August. I can see him not being draft in this situation. However, if you drafted within a week or two of the season, he should've been drafted.

I can't believe he was so far under the radar! I drafted him in round 16 in all 3 of my leagues... Freakish athlete TE with Peyton throwing the ball - Man, everyone was asleep at the wheel

I drafted Julius Thomas in the 22nd round of the first staff mock of the season... back in June.ponchsox said:

I drafted him in all but one of my leagues. The one I didn't manage to land him in was the only standard league I play in and it was the guy who took Gronk in the 1st and then Julius in the 7th... I was shocked and disappointed.Rhythmdoctor said:

I actually started Gronk in flex over Keenan Allen & Brandon Jacobs. Worked out ok enough I guess. Moving forward, I plan to trade one, just not sure who. I think Gronk probably will bring more in return but he looked good and will only get better.
If I can get value I'll move one of them for a QB. End of the day it's a good problem to have.
