So that said, BG, let's get your burg at least some legs, boots and gloves and get my a frigging Cuff and Stud. I cannot count how many times I have seen them drop now with my champ and lost the roll. :moneybag:

Turbine has their anniversary special going on now.

$10 gets you the full game, plus the expansion and all content til now, plus a free month. unbelievable deal, imho. if there was ever a time you wanted to try this game, now is the time.

Started an RK on Tuesday night, had him to lvl 24 by Friday afternoon. Man, so easy. Have yet to die, so got the undying title. Definitely a LOT of fun to play that class, which can mean only one thing - that they will get the crap knocked out of them with the nerf bat.

I ground out my RK as my first character up to about 30 before the buffs. Decided that I didn't want to babysit morale bars during instances, which I assume will dominate end-game once I get there. Watching the epic nemesis seems more fun than watching a small green rectangle change length repeatedly. My main, burglar, is stuck around level 40. Haven't had the heart to log in for about a week now. Will try to grind up to 50 soon so I can goto Moria, experience that content and Lothlorien, then unsubscribe and feel that I didn't waste money by buying the expansion. Hoping that things will be much better at higher levels -- I have spent HOURS looking for groups for instances and have yet to complete Garth Agarwen, Fornost, or The Tomb of Elendil because no one is around at levels 35-45 on Landroval.

Well, those instances are ghost zones regardless of server. There is plenty of solo questing up all the way to 60, although 35-41/42 can be a little sparse. My recommendation is to a) not worry about those instances or b) join a kin that runs them for alts on a semi-regular basis. It is just too frustrating to find groups for them.

As for higher levels, RKs are one of the best DPSing classes in the game right now, so it won't all be morale bar watching. True, you'll need to keep an eye on them to switch over to healing if the min can't keep up, but right now RKs are generally invited along for DPS except for certain fights.

Let's see 35-42 is MM, Tal Bruinen, beginning areas in Angmar and then heading to Forochel.

Joe, rarely see you on anymore. I just got my RK to 60 and have him 3/6 with rad gear (chest, boots and legs). Will get gloves and then hope to get the rest with the turtle.

Mael - I assume you know the Turtle exploit with a LM, minst, capt and burg combo? We did it last night in about 45 min but got jack for drops.

In case the rest of you did not see it (I know Mael did since he posted in my thread at the LOTRO forums), I had been locked out of my vault on Tare for 2 weeks and the final solution was to delete everything there and leave me with 6 empty vault slots and 10 gold as compensation. I am about ready to go MoP on Turbine if they do not get off their lazy butts and use a backup to restore my stuff. :)

I'm out of LOTRO for the moment. Too buggy for me. Will likely come back in about a year.

Looks like we are headed to Mirkwood next, for those still hanging around Middle Earth. Here's the official announcement, and this thread has more info.

Quick facts:

-Siege of Mirkwood will have a base price of $19.99.

-Level cap increased to level 65

-Legendary items will now be maxed at level 60

-New 12 person Raid in Dol Guldur

-Skirmishes:

Siege of Mirkwood will be introducing twelve new Skirmish instances in addition to a pair of tutorial instances designed to introduce players to the system. Each of these instances is scalable on a number of levels: They each accept one, three, six, or twelve players at a time, with the deficit made up for by player-created NPC soldiers. Many of the instances are scalable by level; for instance, one skirmish which features an assault upon and defense of Weathertop will accept players from level 30 to 65. Each instance has nine optional challenges, each of which awards skirmish points -- more on those in a moment. These challenges are randomized, as are the enemies inside the instance (within certain logical limits, of course), so you will not likely have the same experience twice.
I didn't notice an exact release date, but that's not surprising. Sounds interesting at least, and the price point is low enough to make it a no-brainer if you enjoy the game.

It has been over a month now that I have been on LOTRO. I have been so busy with changes in my life but it has been good. If anyone needs me to help with something, let me know. My account lasts until December 6th.

Speaking of that, is anyone in need of in-game funds? I have dispensed a fair amount of gold to friends, but would be happy to send some to FBG's, as well.

Any FBG's need anything? It is a free weekend and I am unloading everything. I could also craft something if someone wants it done.

I notice in the E3 coverage that LOTRO is going free to play. Any of you guys know if it's possible to pick up old characters and keep playing?

It is definitely possible to pick up old chars, they aren't ever deleted by the company, as far as I know. As for the Free to Play (F2P), they are putting in a F2P option where you will have access to the entire zone up to the gates of Moria, but any quests outside of the Shire, Breeland and Erid Luin will be barred unless you purchase the pack of quests that you want. Not exactly sure how that will play out in-game, except that they've said there will be a Lotro Store you can purchase things at.

For subscribers or lifetime members, little will change (well, we know thing will change) but the model of paying monthly and having access to the game as it exists now will be pretty much the same, with the addition of the ability to purchase things in the store.

It should prove interesting to see how this is handled, and if it leads to a lot of new content, which was the case with DDO, Turbine's other new game that went F2P about a year ago. That has had very good success as F2P and probably that success prompted the switch in LOTRO.

If anyone does start playing or come back, look me up and I'll show ya around. I'm only on once a week plus/minus, but let me know when you'll be on and I'll try to meet you there.

Been back playing LOTRO pretty regularly again, couple nights a week. Not anywhere near what I used to - between working 2 jobs and taking classes again, there isn't time even if I wanted to.

I've been running with the EA (EriadorAlliance) guys lately, joined Call to Arms kin. We defeated the LT Hard Mode tonight, which is the final raid boss for the latest raid. Only the 2nd raiding group on the server to do so.

Anyone thinking of popping on to check out the Free to Play (starts 9/10)? If you owned the original game, you start as a middle tier player (premium, not the bottom Free to Play.) There are still a lot of quests blocked out unless you purchase quest packs or subscribe, basically anything over lvl 20. If any of you guys log in, give me a holler. I have some low level guys I can come back and run a few quests with someone now and again.

For some reason, the crisp fall air just calls for me to play LOTRO, but I don't know if I can anymore lol. BTW how is CtA? I had my minst in there when I left, probably still is there unless they purge old members.

CtA is pretty casual group of guys/gals, but some good players. They make up probably 60%+ of the people that are regular in the Eriador Alliance raids, but because of the Alliance, there isn't the same pressure to raid you might have in a kin where there is just enough people in-kin to raid. It is a more "adult" oriented kin, in the sense that things are said in chat and vent that wouldn't really be appropriate for sensitive ears (your momma jokes, for instance.) Pretty relaxed atmosphere, definitely a bit different than the last few kins I ran with.

They PvMP a lot also, so that is a nice diversion, and nice to have some people to run with in the Moors.

I just downloaded the new free 2 play with my old character (46 Captain) still intact. I've completely forgotten how to play, and I think I gave away all my money when I retired a few years ago.

Both of my kids have accounts on the Free2Play LOTRO. I can actually get to all my characters, Evidently if you've played the game (paying) for long enough you earn the right to keep some stuff.

if you ever pay turbine money, you upgrade to a 'premium' account, which allows a few perks including unlimited gold and 5 bags instead of 3. it's worth it to subscribe for one month just to get this IMO and create a bunch of characters during that time. once the subscription lapses, all characters created during that time keep those benefits they had while 'VIP'.

Well...I have a burg right around that level, maybe low 40s, if you are gonna play some let me know and I can jump on that char and give you a hand. I've been semi-inactive for the last few months, logging on just a few times to say hi to people, or to hit up the current raid.I bought a lifetime account back before they were thinking about F2P, so all my chars are all VIPs and all that. I had considered opening a F2P account to mess around with dual boxing, but I am a very slow leveler and couldn't stand the thought of running more chars than what I already had up through the levels.

You know, Maelstrom, if you set your noob on follow on one of your 60's, you could PL that bad boy to 50 in about 3 days.

Well somebody log on tonight and remind me how to play. I think I may set my kids up with an account as well.
Oh I know how you play, Corp. You just love to play in Bree and the Lone Lands, but if someone wants to quest in the Shire, you just tell them to suck it, right?

I think you're mocking my hatred of Wake Island and my dislike (because of boredom) of Heavy Metal. I don't recall hating the Shire, but I really can't remember how to play this game :goodposting:

;) I have 5 60's, but have not really played in forever. I gifted away my fortune twice over, so have almost no :moneybag: but if a FBG wants to do an occasional run, let me know. I can bring a champ, hunter, captain, minstrel, runekeeper or Loremaster. I don't think I have the patience or stamina to take them to 65/70. I am waiting for TOR.

Joe and a friend (Stonegaijin) were both heirs to the Tarethyn fortune. I also sent sizable sums to friends in No Quarter. I believe I gave away about 350 gold over 2 separate occasions. Man I spent too much time making funny LOTRO money via crafting. :bag:

Just watched a video of Rohan. Man, I wish I had time to jump in again. I assume Rohan is like levels 70+? If it were a concurrent start, it would almost be worth it to jump in and see again.

Haven't signed in for many months since my computer took a dump on itself. I think Isengard went up to 75 so Rohan will most likely be up to 80 or 85.

It's a shame that content has been slowly crawling out over the course of 5+ years. Game developers (especially MMOs) need to realize that no one wants to play a single game for that long. If this game released with Rohan, and built up to Mordor after ~2 years, it would have been a more reasonable progression. But come on ... you might as well release a new game at this point.

Agreed. Consider they want to follow the books. It has been how long since release? April 2007 and they have MAYBE gotten to 1/3 of the way into Two Towers. Do they think this game will really live on into RotK? I don't think it will live another 5 years, let alone 8. Loved this game so much for so long, and it ate my time so much, so I have to hate it too. :bag:

Would this be a bad time to pick this up?
Freak, it's free to play now, so if you have not, then now is perfect. It is a fantastic MMO experience IMO. I played it fairly solid from beta in March 2007 until September 2009. My life changed with a lot less time 9/2009 and I could not justify playing it anymore. At the time, I had some toons that were about as well geared as was humanly possible at the time. :nerd: :bag:

Do you still have the keys to my old hunter? I know i asked you about it a few years ago but i never tried to log back on I wonder if they have deleted it.

The new expansion pack will likely take a char either to 80 or 85 I believe. Mounted combat looks pretty cool, I was thinking of logging back in to check it out, but then I'd have to pay the $40 for the xpac. I did it for Isengard and played for like a week, and I'm afraid that would happen here as well. I couldn't get into SWToR either, so I think it's the MMO model I burned out on more than a specific game. I might log in and see if I can get leveled up for Isengard, and if so, then consider purchasing Rohan for the mounted combat.

It's a lotta time though, I'm in the same boat as Mad Cow, spent a ton of time playing from Beta through mid-2009ish, then jumped back in for a few more months in mid-2010. I don't want to ever spend that much time in a video game again. You really have to commit the time to them to experience them and I want to avoid that.

Yeah, my son has his hunter on that account. He haven't played together in a very long time, however. I had him up to level 50, though. Up from like 42 when you gave me the keys. :)

So Rohan drops really soon right? If you are a F2P player can you purchase Rohan and then still be F2P, or do you have to be a pay-to-play for that content?

It comes out September 5th. As far as I know, the purchase of the expansion (starting at $40) is entirely independent of your status as VIP or not VIP. You do get a truckload of Turbine Points when you buy the expansion. Like 1,000+. The level cap with the expansion goes to 85!I have 3 65s, a 63 and a 60 on my account. I haven't played in awhile, and with GW2 launching this coming weekend, I doubt I will for awhile longer.

I bought the last expac and never got past 66 (it went to 75 I think.) I logged in a couple months ago, but haven't really played at all in quite some time.

Sounds like I will just not worry about it, then. I have wondered long and hard about GW2, but at the same time I also DL'd SWTOR and played a few levels, and I gotta say, I am just not feeling the whole MMO thing anymore. I get the same old type of quests and I just roll my eyes and think, "This again?" Probably best just to say adios to MMOs for good.

Well, if you like Mass Effect series, I would think you'd like the leveling experience in SW:TOR. However, at cap, the game was not so good. But also, the point of MMO is the first M, if you're not playing in groups with people in vent then I could see how it would be boring. For me, the game just has to be good enough to compete with TV. That's not a high bar.

That was my experience with SW:ToR as well. I agree with Shawn as well though about the impact of trying to solo in an MMO - without the group aspect, it is not nearly as fun. That being said, I did have a community of people in SWToR that I knew and that I grouped with and I still felt the same way about many of the quests.

Anyone still play? Watching the Take the Hobbit to Isengard streaming brought back good memories.

BTW Maelstrom said that Perchelm from Gladden had recently passed away, if anyone knew them.

I still talk via FB with a few - Stonegaijin, Malcore, etc.
