Downloaded last night, created a character this morning before work. Legomyegolas, on Gladden. Will try to get on tonight, please /whisper me to tell me how to play this game
Don't spend too much time on that character, your name will be reported and it violates their policy. You can be a silly name like Al or Snogger or Buttwhipper, but not a name that too closely remembles or spoofs a LOTR Trilogy name.
They'll just make me change it though, right?WoW is full of joke Legolas names like this... the sad thing is that when WoW launched, it was full of people seriously trying to name thier night elf hunters after the trilogy character... Legolaz, Legolass, Legolez, etc... Legomyaggrolas could be my favorite
No doubt and if you turn OOC off you won't be bothered, but the Name police are in full force out there and it's just not worth the hassle IMHO.We got our names changed from:Me: Hamwise -> ImhulluMC: Legolamb -> Tarethyn
Are they wiping characters when Beta ends?

I should say that someone named Sain approached Maelstrom and I last night to complain about someone stealing their quests. I told him he needed to take it up with the person and that many of our members were new to MMORPGs and that they may have had no idea they stole your quest. He said that they did it twice and wanted me to talk to them. Finally he told me who it was. I won't bother relaying that because I really don't care, but just I guess I should just say that people get bent out of shape when you cut in line on these things while they are waiting for a bad guy to spawn. So do so at your own risk.
Couldn't possibly be me, since I haven't done a quest in a long time. :farmer:BTW - What ticks me off is as soon as I went up to 300 seeds by buying the extra, now my seed surplus is through the roof. I have about 150 extra seeds, meaning I could do about 75 fields if I wanted.

Is the pre-ordering period over? And how long does this world tour go on for?I am probably not going to get a chance to play until middle of next week, though I'm locked, loaded and ready to go. I'd like to at least check it out a little before pre-ordering... worst comes to worst, if I like what I play of it, I guess I won't really mind starting over :)

You can preorder until the day before it releases. The other benefit to preordering is getting either $199 lifetime or $9.99 per month pricing. Everyone else gets $15.

They REALLY need to fix/tweak the static spawn situation.Camping for quest critters to spawn is sooooo 2001.
Which is what was so nice about Guild Wars - instances for everything. They need to find a balance between wide open world and instances.

Cook a little to get leveled.. oh whats that I can't level until I get the next quest?? Oh and it's back in Bree?? Grabs :P (sorry, closet to horse we have ;) )

Any FBG's need a little silver to get started? If you have preordered and are having a hard time keeping the coffers full, I would be willing to float you some silver. Feel free to pay me back anytime with no interest.

I only offer this if you have preordered, since I don't want the silver to disappear into nothing on April 24th.

My 2nd character has scholar as a profession, so PLEASE anyone that runs across those scraps of paper and stuff, PLEASEPLEASEPLEASE sell them to me to help me get along with that. The faster I get on with that, the faster I can make potions for us to use in combat.

His name is Garyth.

Almost level 10 with him - got 3 more levels this AM. :goodposting:

Historian, eh? I don't think I will explore the farming side with him, though, since I already have a pimp daddy farmer.

BTW - Just finished my 72 field run - got screwed on the seed and lost about 6 fields. Now can only do a 66 field run. :goodposting:

I hooked up Maelstrom with a couple of items the other night. Since you made me that killer bow, I'll throw a couple your way next. Then I'll force you to bid against each other.

Between you and GS both choosing historian (only one with scholar right?) I may have to change Maelstrom's (my character's) profession since I choose that at a time when no one else was. Maybe something with weaponsmithing. Not a big deal as I haven't done much, if any, crafting with that character yet. I'm also still not sure which char I want to play yet, and have been bouncing around a lot (4 of my 5 at lvl 11 or 12). We still don't have a Lore-master besides Maelstrom that I know of, so I'm leaning towards that as the keeper, but we'll see. I'm also not sure we have a guardian (besides Al), and I have a lvl6 dwarf guardian "tank" that I could level up. I"m still feeling out the way I like to play the game, and which class fits that.Anyone that has chosen a main char (or who only has/plans on having one) wanna post who it is, what profession and what class so we can see what we have and what is needed? I'll take a stab at what we have so far though:GS is liking his Minstrel, but also has a lvl15 guardian and a lvl15 Burglar I believePJ is a hunterKewleo is a captainMC has a hunter and champion Tarkinn is a burglar, if I recallHJoe is a Heral....err...I'm not sure what HJ's playing, Minstel maybe?Do a lot of people generally have 1 character for "lone play" and 1 for group stuff or is it too hard to keep multiple characters up (I can see it getting a little boring going over the same quests unless you make sure to start off in and stay in the "hometown" areas.)

My mains are :

Tarethyn, level 15 hunter, woodsman profession, badass pot farmer

Garyth, level 10 champion (will be 15 by mid next week), historian majoring in weaponsmith and scholar.

Good times knocking out the quests tonight. You guys really sped me on my way. Up to level 11 and hope to be 15 by mid this next week, though the work schedule looks heavier than it was this week.

I think I like the Guardian Gwaran, and will probably play that and the Lore-Master Maelstrom.

I am going to make Gwaran an Armorer so he can make the armor he requires along with anyone else in the group that can use stuff above leather. I may make Maelstrom a Forester so he can provide Gwaran with woodstuffs (processed hides) for his tailoring profession.

BTW - here's a nice link to an article about the vocations with a good picture illustrating what professions support what, and which professions are included in each vocation:

Maybe Maelstrom can make us a kinship page.

What I'd like to have is a database to list our characters and our professions and mastery levels as well as any recipes we have beyond the usual for our classes.

We already can use the auction houses to trade good by making the posting and bids kinship only.

What do you guys think?

All of our level 15 guys need to complete our class quest at level 15. They are usually pretty tough. Once you complete that quest, you can see all the skills at your trainer through level 40, or so I am told. I was thinking we could login any 15s we have tonight and work on them together.

The question is, why not wait until it goes live so we get the XP for it?

You can wait, I'll complete mine. You really think you're going to be at a disadvantage over 700 exp? I'm saving up all my other quests, but class and profession quests I'll sacrifice.

But you played closed beta so you know all the skills? I want to see what skills are in store for me and I think I can sacrifice 700xp to find out. It's not like the game is short on quests.

Still no change with farming - supposed to happen tomorow so we do not know what will happen.

So I decide to take my hunter out to look for Yew, right? Freak, it is guarded by like level 25 mobs. So, I grabbed about 8 in the Lone Lands, found Ost Kanor or whatever the name so I have a horsey there now and went back.

I hear you get unique titles if you make it to a new level without dying. I read a lot of people are deleting characters every time they die.

Yeah, there are a lot of titles you can get for this and that. Deleting for that reason is dumb.

We might be able to work something out :D Actually, I saw this a little earlier, and worked on a possible logo:

The Order of the Pilum

(see my avatar also :D )

I was gonna jump on tonight, but got home late and decided to watch 24 instead. I know, priorities.

Sweet! :lmao: You missed the FBG raid into the Lone lands taking on mobs of all levels with varying degrees of success. :lmao:

The official nerfing of the sweet sweet galenas seed happens tomorrow AM at 9AM EST until 3 PM EST.

Gotta get in at LEAST 1 more run today.

I sent a little gift to a couple of my raid bruthas from last night.

I'm done for now.. Have about 700s and have my character planted down at Forsaken Inn. Going to start up a Captain probably tonight and see how far I get with him. Will post the name when I get him built.

I still have to get the prologue done for my hunter

I guess then all of the chapters are the same, right?

I wrote down all of the quests I have done ready to turn in and figured I have 15 completed, including a couple orange, a couple yellow and even a RED out at Ost Guruth in the Lone Lands. I should be to 16-17 within about an hour of it going live.

Now I gotta work on my champion getting him going.

for you farmers...

Farming is a net-loss venture for the first tiers. Anything you produce will sell for less money than it cost to produce it. Many players are very vocal about how farming is useless and does not produce anything worthwhile or make any money. This is true until you reach tier 3 and can produce Sweet Galenas Pipeweed. Even then, producing it is a bit of a gamble, as you inevitably produce more poor plants than fair plants, resulting in a surplus of seed and not enough pipeweed to make a profit. This changes when you reach mastery level of tier 3, and can use Soil of Rivendell to force critical success. At that point, as long as you can maintain your seed supply, it’s easy to grow enough pipeweed to turn a steady profit. Since the pipeweed you produce is going to be sold to a vendor, the price is steady and the only variable is the number and type of plants produced. Since you can force critical success, you are able to skew the odds to the point where you can predict how much profit you will make from each farm.It cost me about 250 silver to reach tier 3 mastery. You won’t need all that up front, as you will be producing/selling your produce as you go. Since you are selling at a loss however you will inevitably need to add more money as you go to keep things rolling. I estimate the 250 as the sum total I had to pay out of pocket overall. I didn’t watch it that closely though, so the exact amount may be more or less, particularly since the production rates are variable. When you hit tier 3 and start work towards tier 3 mastery, make Sweet Galenas Pipeweed exclusively as your sole produce. This will ensure you build up a good stock of seed to use once you hit mastery, and the fair plants you produce will give you better income than producing other items.Once you hit mastery, you should have enough seed saved up to be able to start making farms with critical success via Soil of Rivendell. This will allow you to start turning a profit, though it’s important to maintain a stock of seed as you go.The numbers. These calculations are based on growing and harvesting 25 farms. I did larger batches as well, and actually had slightly better results, but the math is very basic at the 25 point, so I will use it for our reference.Soil of Rivendell makes an automatic critical success when growing a farm. A critical success will produce fewer (if any) poor plants, and will often produce a much greater number of fair plants than normal. This uses 3 Soil of Rivendell per farm. Poor plants produce seed, fair plants produce pipeweed.By using 54 Soil of Rivendell, in our 25 farm batch, we will make 18 farms with critical successes, and 7 non-critical farms. This will allow us to grow our seed stock slightly with each batch.Costs for 25 farms:25 Water for Farming @ .48 each =1250 Fertilizer @ .80 each = 4054 soil @1.28 each = 69.12----------------------------------------------Total cost: 121.12 for 25 farms.1 Fair plant produces 4 pipeweed. 10 pipeweed sells for 6.10We thus need to produce *at least* 50 fair plants just to break even.50 plants=200 pipeweed=122 silverWe also want to not lose any seed. That is, we want to produce at least as many seeds as we used to create the farms. If we have to start buying seed, this will get prohibitively expensive. It would be even better if we grow our seed stock slightly. We don’t want to concentrate too much on creating seed though, as we won’t be selling seed. Pipeweed is where we make our money.Farms use 6 seed each. Poor plants produce 3 seeds each.So 25 farms will consume 150 seed. We must thus produce 50 poor plants to “break even” and not wind up with a net loss on seed. The good news is that this is working quite well. In the numerous batches I ran, I was seeing an average of 3.8 fine plants per farm and 2.36 poor plants per farm. These numbers went up slightly as I made larger batches of farms and thus increased the sample size. For example my first batch produced 95 fair plants, or 380 pipeweed. This sells for 231.80, a profit of 110.68. This batch also produced 59 poor plants, or 177 seed; enough to produce 29.5 farms, a growth of 4.9 farms worth of seed. These results were similar the next three times I did batches like this.Growing and harvesting 25 farms took me 18 minutes, while I was chatting with friends.Producing seed and pipeweed took about 40 minutes, but could be done almost completely unattended. (queue up the batch and let it go.) I watched TV while this ran, and just checked back to make sure my bags did not get overfull or my tools get too damaged to use. This is not botting or macro playing; it’s queuing up long craft queues using the regular interface and just letting the game grind through them.110 Silver/hour is not a bad rate, but it’s a fantastic rate when you consider it was actually only about 20 minutes of actual effort. Even more so when you consider that is all profit. The only cost not shown here is repair of the farming tools when they wear down, but using bronze tools I’d generally not need to repair them even after a full batch of farming/producing. When I did, the cost was minimal; a few silver.I still need to investigate the use of farm tools better than the bronze ones I was using. I believe repair costs on them will be much higher, but I’m curious what the effect of the better tools will be. If they are able to produce or harvest farms faster, that may be useful. Alternatively if they produce a greater number of crops it may be possible to reduce the number of Soil of Rivendell used.

Their math is WAY the freak off. Not even close.
