Meanwhile, it's time to get fired up for the NBA Finals.

Or, the Red Sox are playing a Sunday night game on ESPN. I think it's already in the top of the fifth inning.

Nashville fans may want to expand their vocabulary. You can only say sucks so many times. As bad as the country singers singing the anthem. That is all, good night

My apologies if that last post came out a little harsh. You root for a team for so long only to have it end it heartbreak, and, you know ...

IIRC the only time the Cup won on visiting ice was dicey with the crowd was in Vancouver.  I was in Detroit in 2009, those who stayed to watch the Pens skate around golf clapped when they were handed the cup.  To me you have to stay and see that, even if your team loses.
The Detroit 2009 crowd was great.

I would love to see one NHL team celebrate in a unique way when winning the Cup. Or celebrate in a unique way when scoring a goal for that matter. Bunch of white, northern american robots. Scream Yeah! Kiss the cup. Skate in a small circle. Pass it to Gordie.

Most memorable moment of the night was the fan screaming at Milbury.

Man I am glad I'm still technically unemployed and don't have to go to work tomorrow. That was a very exciting game and I am hammered

What kind of original celebration do you imagine?

Fun ser8es.  Sorry to see the no goal happen because it changes the game even though Pittsburgh was probably better.

Oh, Crosby is a #####.

Exactly. No way of knowing how that game plays out if the Preds go up 1-0. Same for the Subak goal overturned in Game 1.

Still, the Pens were the better team the last two games. I'm not sure if the Preds hit the wall or where the version that dominated Games 3-4 went.

I did see an article that said during the course of each series their shots and performance went down each series after Chicago.

Pens got blasted in two of their series' and still won.  really good goaltending and a couple of the best players in the world will do that.

our Preds blew it.

Yep.  And there weren't a lot of fans left just now, but to be fair, a lot of people in Nashville probably didn't know they had a team until the last few months.
Teams where Nashville had a higher attendance as a % of capacity

Philly

Buffalo

St Louis

Vancouver

Ottawa

San Jose

Anaheim

Colorado

Florida

New Jersey

Columbus

New York Isles

Arizona

Caroline

I agree.

Wow. Had the Pens in five simply because of Crosby, Malkin, and Kessel. Hard to keep up with that.

It's like when Belichick talks about defense. If you're on defense, you're just not as good as the top offensive guys, says he.

Perhaps that's not iron tight. 2000 Ravens excepted. That was ridiculous.

But the Pens clearly were better this series, no matter what stats say.

it was why I picked the Pens.   For Malkin to be as ridiculously good as he is, and not even be considered the team's superstar....enough said. (I think he's their best player by a lot)

As great as Malkin is, he's not close to Sid, really. Playing with Sid gives him so much more room to operate d/t not facing top lines and defensive pairings. He's also not the 200 foot player that Crosby is. They're both spectacular, obviously, but Crosby is several rungs higher IMO. Crosby is as good as anyone in NHL history outside of Gretzky, Howe, Orr, and Lemieux IMO.

Pens were definitely the better team in games 5 and 6 with the Cup on the line. Agree that they stole the first two games, but they pretty clearly found another gear as the series went on that Nashville couldn't match.

:goodposting:  And I'm a huge Malkin  fan.

game 6 was even at best.  5 on 5 Preds had the slight advantage and in all situations they had better scoring chances since they had the big PP advantage.  Preds dominated this series at even strength and in close situations.  as did Washington.

similarly, Ottawa was one shot away from doing the same thing to Pittsburg after the Pens controlled play there.

Yeah, we can agree to disagree. I'm admittedly not neutral here, but I thought that the Pens were the better team overall in both games 4 and 6 (and I doubt we'll be disagreeing about game 5 LOL) after the Preds looked much better in the first 2 games particularly.

I'm a huge fan of both Crosby and Malkin.  And at his peak, Crosby is/was much better and certainly more complete.   I just think Malkin in their current form is better.
IMO the past year or so has been as close as it gets to a "peak" for Crosby, personally. Best player on the ice for two Cups, two Conn Smythes, a Richard trophy (and who knows on the Ross if he hadn't had that concussion to start the season), and being the best player at the World Cup with a gold medal in between.   I won't be at all surprised to see him win the Hart in a week and a half either. McDavid is obviously electric, but he's not the all around player that Sid is yet.

yep, he's damn good.   Of course, the arguments you're making about the last 2 years....well, he's benefitted from having the best player in the league on his line.... :coffee:

game 4 was closer relative to 1-3 but still decidedly in favor of the Preds in 5 on 5 close high danger chances and overall possession.
