I haven't read any of the above spoilers and I don't plan on it. But I just came across this theory. It's from The Amazing Steve, who does the 24 recaps.

I haven't seen much in the way of spoilers. kaa posted a list of characters the remaining episodes will center on (unaccredited, but we'll see shortly whether the list tracks). kaa also posted a theory, so feel free to read it (like you did with Amazing Steve's). It's all speculation at this point.

My bad, guess I was being overly-cautious. I'd prefer to be "surprised" at the progressiion of the character focus of the upcoming episodes, so even though the info isn't accredited I may still skip it anyway. Just in case.Since when do we start posting theories in spoiler tags around here?

maybe even them introducing some new major characters in the last few episodes.I mean Jacob and MIB are big players and didn't show up until the end of season 5... maybe their overlord/dad is going to show up in the season finale... which will roll directly into the Lost Movie.

I wish there was a way to split this thread in two. One for people to ##### and moan and another for people who actually still like the show or at least willing to give it until the end of the series before they want to complain.

Not to be "that guy", but fully into "that guy" mode... Technically MIB has been on the show since episode 1, and Jacob has been around since Locke was with the others and was mentioned earlier by various others, though not by name.

No idea, but he definitely seems to know what's up more than everyone else combined.Though he does have an inside track being able to communicate with the dead.

I watched the entire series during the month of January, so I'm not time invested in the show like most are around here, and I was kinda disappointed with the direction the series took ever since they started time-jumping. And this season hasn't grabbed me and made me look forward to the next week's episode as soon as 10:00 Tuesday night hits.

But this episode just made everything that happened this season worthwhile. Damn that was some good TV.

I didn't hate it but certainly didn't love it. The episode was carried by the actor that played Alpert's ability to act. Probably the best actor on the show.

Why can't Smokey just leave now that Jacob is dead?

If it is the presence of a new guardian, why not just kill the 6 remaining Candidates?

One theory, is that he needs to be released by the the Island's protector. He is slowly getting all of them on his side, hoping to get the Candidate to agree to free him. That would narrow the replacement to Hurley, Jack or Sun.

This could be why the Un-named Child told him "You can't kill him".

The Black Rock through the statue was kinda hokey.

For some reason I am thinking Smokey bites it somehow in the end.

My theory centered around each episode being character specific (6 characters, 7 episodes with the last being a 2 hour finale). The idea is that each character will be faced to make a decision that will put them in peril (ie. Sun trying to reunite with Jin) and Sun is killed by Unlocke, subsequent characters are forced to take sides on the battle between good and evil (as we have seen) and the rationale for their decisions causes them to either die, or become "the candidate". Jacob alluded to doing the right thing because it is right and not for selfish reasons, I believe that all characters will allow their personal selfishness to overshadow their decision making until only the candidate (with alpert and widmore) take on unlocke in an epic battle that wraps up with the candidate keeping the blackness at bay while "freeing the rest".

Either that or a circular ending where the last scene is the eye..

i know by looking at the episode lists that this isnt going to happen but i would have enjoyed the carnage and climax!

Fantastic episode. Nestor Carbonell did a great job here. The island is a "cork" on evil, good way of putting it.

I agree, the scene will most likely be that, still not sure who the two will be. There always has to be these two presences on the island, a fine balance between good and evil. That's just the way of the world, and the island is just symbolic of that.
