Ben was healed by the waters...and he's still normal :whistling:
Not so fast. Maybe the waters are what made Ben the evil ******* that he is.
Ben was made the leader of the Others despite the Others knowing the water would change him in some manner. Have they learned about the water because of Ben's evil? Why was Rousseau taken to water? Why was Claire? Was anyone else? Was having Ben be the leader part of the MIB/Jacob struggle? Overall, I just enjoy the show and try not to worry about answering questions. But I do find the above interesting.
Did this happen or are you assuming? I don't remember that happening.

He's assuming the Water caused the "infection," which I think is wrong.

I think the Sawyer stuff laid down in this last episode is going to prove important in his actions going forward this season. I don't see that stuff as filler at all. Unlike other shows (Heroes) where the characters would flip flop their motives and actions from show to show, Lost has been very good with character development. If they plan on doing some interesting things with Sawyer in the next few episodes (working with MIB?) it is important for them to show WHY Sawyer would do it. Which is what they potentially laid out for us.For those commenting on communication and the actions of the Others being all over the place....try this. Substitube "The Others" for "Jacob" and just assume for a minute that their actions are guided by him and they are doing exactly what he is telling them to do. IE: DON'T tell anyone the secrets about the island. You are assuming they would do it to communicate better with Jack, but it is reasonable to think they have been specifically told NOT to do that.If you substitute "Jacob" for "The Others" when trying to rationalize their actions, I think it is reasonable to say that we don't really know what his/their motives are. His motives will likely prove to be the basis for the entire show and might only be revealed at the end. I don't see any reason to rush to get there and if lesser inconsequential mysteries along the way are left unanswered so be it.
Could be. I wouldn't rule out that Juliet is still alive in the post LA X reality and that Sawyer and her could be reunited. I think the writers may have seen how viewers were all in to Des and his romance with whatshername and have now written the same type of tragic love story for Sawyer. Now they wouldn't necessarily know each other - but if the realities converge...... who knows.

Apples and oranges. The disappointment around Seinfeild was mostly that it just wasn't funny - at all.

Yeah, I can't see how the water would cause the infection.

And didn't Rousseau claim that her fellow scientists have the infection and that is why she killed them? Or are we assuming that it was actually Rousseau who was infected?

We saw that the guys with her were different, more violent, when Jin time jumped. So if Rousseau was infected, it was in addition, not instead of.

Good point. I guess my scenario wasn't exactly mutually exclusive, was it?

I believe it was actually her partner that was going to shoot her first, had she not unloaded his rifle beforehand.I won't argue that she wasn't a little loopy, but I also don't believe she was fully infected. Once she got around the 815'ers, she seemed to become a little more normal, ie. still remaining much the same person, until she was ultimately killed.

I had to pause it a couple times to try and take him seriously. Was he actually the guard Kate hit in whatever episode?
Can't remember, but from his IMDB page, he had a one-episode appearance in 2007."Lost" .... Aldo (1 episode, 2007)... aka Lost: The Final Season (USA: sixth season title) - Not in Portland (2007) TV episode .... Aldo
He was the guard standing outside the room Carl was being held prisoner in (while strapped into a chair watching the Jacob film) when Kate knocked him out to free Carl.
What's "the Jacob film?"

:goodposting: Juliet's last words were (and I'm paraphrasing here; I didn't look them up) "It worked" and something about her and Sawyer maybe getting together for coffee sometime. I think on her deathbed there she received some sort of glimpse of this alternate timeline, and I'm assuming she's alive in it based on those statements. Should be interesting . . . especially if somehow these timelines converge.

What's "the Jacob film?"
Karl was strapped into a chair watching a series of images Clockwork Orange style. One of them said something like "God Loves you as he loved Jacob."

I liked this last episode. You complainers are nuts.
:pickle: Some people have placed unrealistic expectations into every single episode. If you treated a woman like this, she'd be on a pedestal so high you'd think her #### doesn't stink.

What's "the Jacob film?"
It was in the "Not in Portland" episode. When Kate and Sawyer were imprisoned on "Hydra Island" they eventually made their escape.
During Kate and Sawyer's escape from The Others, Alex met up with them, asking them to help her find Karl, who she said was her boyfriend. At this point, Sawyer realized that Karl was the person originally in the cell next to his. If they agreed to help her, Alex promised, she would give them a boat to leave Hydra Island.

The three arrived at the small building bearing the Hydra logo on the main doors. Inside, Karl was found in Room 23, restrained to a chair and wearing LED glasses, being forced to watch a bizarre video with flashing images and words, as well as a loud industrial-sounding soundtrack that seemed to be a form of brainwashing. When Kate and Alex freed him from the chair, Karl was not fully conscious and had to be carried out by Sawyer.
During the film the words "God loves you as he loved Jacob" flashed.

I saw somewhere else - and it hasn't been mentioned here so it may be wrong - that the woman that was supposed to adopt Aaron was one of the two chicks in the Looking Glass.

questions answered:1. what happened to Claire2. what the "infection" was (read: Rousseau was infected, her crew was not necessarily infected)3. closure to Sawyer/Julietand that's not including the alternate reality stuff (Claire/Kate getting reconnected, Aaron being the baby's name even though I'm pretty sure Aaron as a name was all from Charlie, etc.) and Sawyer was planning to propose, the reason Kate went back (or more on that), etc...there were tons of answers, they just weren't sexy answers...
We don't really have an answer for what happened to Claire. Apparently she was "claimed" and that its a very bad thing to happen. But we don't know what it means.
well, yeah, they were only partial answers... but we know whatever happened to Claire also happened to Rousseau and is now happening to Sayid...
Ben was healed by the waters...and he's still normal :whistling:
yes, but we don't know if the waters were clear or not... and we also don't know what actually infected Sayid, was it the waters or was it something else?IN FACT, we aren't even sure if it was the water that healed Sayid or something else entirely...

NP. If you go to the "Room 23" link above, they describe and show some of the images that were flashed. Some are bizarre, but may perhaps of meaning in the show.I'm probably over-analyzing here but is it really safe to assume that the Jacob refered to in the film is the same as the Jacob on the island and not necessarily the Biblical Jacob? Also of note, the past tense of "loved Jacob."

Speaking of which, some interesting reading on Jacob and Esau his twin brother can be found here.

A few interesting things from there - Jacob and Esau were fighting, even in the womb. Jacob was born with smooth skin and Esau was born quite hairy and Jacob basically tricked Esau into giving his firstborn birthright power to him.

Jacob, when he died, was repatriated to Canaan to be buried with his wife Leah in the cave of Machpelah, AKA the Tomb Of The Patriarchs, where according to Torah tradition contains Adam and Eve.

At the above link you'll also find this tidbit about the cave - According to the Midrash, the Patriarchs were buried in the cave because the cave is the threshold to the Garden of Eden. The Patriarchs are said not to be dead but "sleeping". They rise to beg mercy for their children throughout the generations. According to the Zohar, this tomb is the gateway through which souls enter into Gan Eden—heaven.

What we know:Ben was taken to the water as a boy after being shot and Juliet was told that he would change.Sayid is shot, taken to the water to heal, and is now "infected" or "claimed" by darkness.Jack was told that Claire was "infected" or "claimed".Claire now looks like and sets traps like Rousseau. My assumptions:Rousseau was "claimed".They are "claimed" by the MIB in some manner. My questions:Was Ben "claimed"?Does the water sometimes cause a person to be "claimed"?Did Claire and Rousseau become "claimed" somewhere else or were they injured and brought to the temple water and then were "claimed"?

What we know:

Ben was taken to the water as a boy after being shot and Juliet was told that he would change. agree (although I thought it was Kate that was told)

Sayid is shot, taken to the water to heal, and is now "infected" or "claimed" by darkness. agree

Jack was told that Claire was "infected" or "claimed". agree

Claire now looks like and sets traps like Rousseau. maybe - I'm not sure how she "looks like Rousseau", and it's still an assumption that she set the traps. However, one of the guards did make an offhand remark that Rosseau had been dead for years

My assumptions:

Rousseau was "claimed". disagree. if she had been dead for year, I think MIB manifested itself (himself?) as Rousseau a la Locke

They are "claimed" by the MIB in some manner.

My questions:

Was Ben "claimed"? no. he was healed but the change was likely not the same as what Sayid's experiencing. The color change to the water seems to indicate a break in how the water behaves

Does the water sometimes cause a person to be "claimed"? if so, it is only since Jacob was "killed" by Ben

Did Claire and Rousseau become "claimed" somewhere else or were they injured and brought to the temple water and then were "claimed"?

Unnecessary for the MIB to manifest as Rousseau. She was killed in 2004, 3 years ago Island time, so it has been years.

What we know:

Ben was taken to the water as a boy after being shot and Juliet was told that he would change. This is not entirely true. Ben was taken to the Temple but we were never told or shown that he was put into the water. Based on events to happen to Sayid, one could conclude Ben was in the water but that is a big assumption.

Sayid is shot, taken to the water to heal, and is now "infected" or "claimed" by darkness. We know Smokey and possibly Jacob have claimed people in their form to the Losties. Sayid could have been claimed before entering the Temple so the water may not even have "healed" him nor the water possibly have "infected" or "claimed" him.

Jack was told that Claire was "infected" or "claimed". Again, what does this mean? We do not know.

Claire now looks like and sets traps like Rousseau. And?

My assumptions:

Rousseau was "claimed".By whom or what? Her demeanor did not change through time nor did she enter the Temple, that we saw, unlike some in her group.

:kicksrock: I'm not sure if or when it happened, but why would it have been "unnecessary"?

To be honest, I can't recall if or when she died. My dork rating is way low (I actually had trouble typing M I B even though I'm a userid that no one can see typing anonymously on a fantasy football forum). Can you refresh my memory?

The guards never specified when Rosseau died, just "years ago" IIRC. Is it possible MIB ( :bag: ) manifested as her to get information or direct events?

She was killed by a sniper while taking Alex and Karl to the temple in "Meet Kevin Johnson" in season 4.Which means that, while it's theoretically possible that she was a manifestation, there is no post-death appearance to make it a necessity.

"Claiming" could just simply be Jacob and MIB having a draft (of sorts) of the people who find their way to the island. Jacob's picks are those on "the list", and MIB's just end up going crazy and killing people.

MIB must have had a high pick to get Sayid. Clear Tier 1 guy.

I think people are making an unsafe assumption that "claimed" is equal to Smokey manifesting himself as other people. We don't yet know what "claimed" means, so it's very unsafe to make any assumptions. Also, Rousseau was killed on the way to the Temple (on the instructions of Ben) as the Mercs were going to attack the Barracks. Rousseau and Karl were killed by the Mercs and Alex was brought back to the Barracks where she was ultimately killed by Keamy.

Why do we know Claire is infected/claimed? I don't remember that...
Dogen (the Japanese guy) told Jack that his sister was infected.
ha, forgot that Claire was Jack's sister...
I know that we know that she is Jack's sister. But does Jack know? I can't remember how that all was revealed.
Jack found out off island that Aaron was his nephew...
At Christian's belated funeral after the Oceanic 6 returned, he met Claire's mother.

I am going to go out on a limb and say that if, the woman Claire was going to give her baby to for adoption, her husband was Benjamin Linus, that the woman, unnamed so far, is Annie.

Nothing to base this off although her name is Mrs. Baskum and possibly her first name is Lindsey but not confirmed.

Another alternate timeline connection:

Just watched the commentary from Season Three and the creators said that Annie would be a huge character before it is all said and done.

Can someone remind me who Annie is?
When we first were introduced to Ben's life story, how he came to the island as a child, Annie was a girl who befriended him.I don't know if anyone has brought this up so far, but I am extremely disappointed by these "others". They are far weaker than those we came to know in season two/three.

Lost reminds me of Seinfeld. Seinfeld was actually about the pathetic lives of a group of terribly nasty, inconsiderate jackholes. The series finale of Seinfeld upset a lot of viewers because they didn't understand the cast was all evil. All of them. I feel like a lot of viewers of Lost don't understand that the losties are evil.

No I think I'm spot on. Remember the last time we saw Rose and Bernard? They basically admonished the rest of the Losties for constantly getting tied up in conflicts and causing trouble. They advocated just being thankful they survived a plane crash, survived the time jumps, and just wanted to live their lives in peace in a paradise. I think that was a very important scene. That was the writers speaking thru Rose and Bernard, bashing the Losties for how horrible they are. Jacob probably approved of the choice Rose and Bernard made. They made progress. Sawyer and Juliet, had they actually just left the island together in the sub and lived their lives out peacefully, that was where they -almost- made progress. But no, they had to turn around and get in more trouble instead.

I agree with you on Rose/Bernard, but why would the creators of LOST go through all the trouble of making a show full of awful people, with the only voices of reason being two minor characters?

The whole show seems to be about redemption and second chances. We enjoy many of the characters because they're flawed. I think the "they're all bad" argument is weak, IMO. The writers have been very good at shwoing both sides of each character and that depth of character is one of the strong-points of the show.I agree with kaa to the extent of the importance of the Rose/Bernard exchange with the other survivors. Especially since the other survivors went on to detonate the bomb without thinking of the far-reaching consequences of their actions.

I watch this show every week but miss things from time to time so I check this site but I keep reading that Rossuao or however you spell her name was infected but I don't remember hearing about that. I know her team was and she was a little crazy but what do think happens to someone in the woods alone for 15 years. Her daughter was kidnapped she had to kill her own team and she kept hearing the others voices over and over but never saw them of course shes nuts. I also have to think if someone was infected why would her main worry continue to be finding her baby after 15 years. Again I could have missed a part saying she was infected but I always just thought she was just crazy.

There is absolutely no proof she was infected, but the inference is strong with last week's ending. Claire now looks/acts like Rousseou II, and Dogen says she is infected, therefore Claire is acting like Rousseou because both are/were infected. But it is all based on the last couple of minutes of last week's ep. Things can drastically change after just the opening this week. Heck, right now we have no proof there actually is an "infection". We'll see.
