Im not quite at the end yet. I quit right as the final kai leng battle was starting. Im already mad though. Im less than 4000 readiness. And apparently that means not all the endings are available to me. All systems are 100%. My green war assets bar is totally full. I did every side mission possiblr except for possibly delivering a fying krogan's love letter (i cant recall if i did it but i think i missed it somehow). So i dont get the endings because of a dying krogan's love letter or not being a multiplayer gamer?! Bioware may lose me.
Military readiness doesn't really matter. Just trust me.

I think I'm confused... Are we talking about the ending where:

Shepard is shown alive back on Earth?
If so, I didn't get that.

I just got all three choices.

I don't know what I am talking about specifically. Just that there are certain endings that you need over 4000 to get and it seems impossible to get that amount playing the game and not doing multiplayer.

Then I beat the game. Having viewed the ending once already, I completely lost the urge to care about military readiness on my second playthrough. Seriously, it changes the ending by literally about 3 seconds. That's it.

From what Andy and MadCow posted, it seems like an important 3 seconds. It's trivial unless the indoctrination theory is correct (don't google it yet, major spoilers).

That is what we're talking about. To get that one, you need a certain number of assets. To get that much you need to play MP at least a little bit to get the war readiness up.

I'll go ahead and say that multiplayer isn't that bad. I've never played Gears so I can't speak to how it compares to that, but I've been plyaing some MP to get my 5000 kills, and it's okay as a short-run diversion. It's obviously not going to be like Battlefield or Killzone or COD where you can play it for months, but if it gives me a couple weekends of something to do, that's fine.

It still shouldn't be tied into the SP campaign, though.

It isn't bad. Its just not good though. Its generic. My issue is the bolded above. Compared to Gears who invented horde, its very ordinary. Its also a little disappointing when I think about the fact that some of the side missions in the SP are the exact same map as MP. No changes at all. Its basically a MP mission in single player. The dialogue is usually very sparse on those missions anyway so little is added to the story. Just an added on feel to the whole thing. Just my opinion.

If you guys want to up your readiness but don't want to play MP, and you have an Apple device, just get the Datapad app. I was around 80% before I started up with MP.

I put it on my iPad but haven't opened it yet. How does it work? Do you log into it?

Is your war readiness 50%? Then yea, you can't get it. They lied to us on that one although Dufrense said he got it. I did every mission and came up short the first time. Maybe I need the Prothean DLC whch again is lieing since I would have had to buy that. the standard game can't get above 4000. I'm convinced of this.
I did it the first time without the Prothean DLC. :shrug:I don't know how I did it, otherwise I'd offer some sort of solution. In fact, I missed one side mission - the one where you work with the Salarian C-Sec officer to solve the Hanar situation.
I did the exact same as you. Only thing I can think of is that letting the Quarians die gives you more points because I saved them both. Can't see what else you did different unless you faked the genophage to get the Salarians and Krogan. No idea how you pulled it off.
I cured the genophage but saved the Solarian minister from Kane because I imported ME2 with Thane still alive. That gives you both Solarian and Krogan support.

It's admittedly kind of stupid. You have a fleet of ships (I think you start with 2) and you assign them to different missions on the galaxy map. Each mission takes X amount of time (a set number of hours) and awards you with Y% of readiness. I usually just use it once or twice a day when I'm on the can. It links to your ME3 game via your EA login. The best part of the app is probably the emails you get from the various characters as you progress through the game. For example, I got one from that reporter chick in which she apologizes for leaving so quickly but thanks me for a great night. Another one was from Garrus - he told me that if an army of cans ever rises up on the Citadel, they'll know who to call to put down the rebellion (I out-shot him in that cut scene that you've hopefully played through by now).

Maybe I did something else, but I got full solarian support after I cured the genophage.
If I remember, it was my Renegade run, I had Wrex in charge, Female Krogan died, and I did all the Renegade options to where I was about to sabotage the genophage right when I had the option to shoot Mordin. But I couldn't shoot him. I didn't pull the trigger and he walked off and I threw my gun away.

Which I did that too. AD later realized he didn't have enough to get the "Best" ending. I literally did everything except Hanar diplomat first time through. This time, I'm getting it all. Doubt it makes 4000.

I have no idea how this will work out, but I'm not getting my hopes up. Sounds like Bioware is being needlessly stubborn here.

Fans cried out, and BioWare listened. Today, the company announced Mass Effect 3: Extended Cut, a free download that will offer gamers "deeper insights into how their personal journey concludes."

Due out this summer for the Xbox 360, PlayStation 3, and PC, the Extended Cut for the sci-fi role-playing game will expand on the end-game with "cinematic sequences and epilogue scenes." Specifics were not mentioned.

BioWare cofounder Ray Muzyka said, "With the Mass Effect 3: Extended Cut we think we have struck a good balance in delivering the answers players are looking for while maintaining the team's artistic vision for the end of this story arc in the Mass Effect universe."

According to executive producer Casey Hudson, post-launch development initiatives for Mass Effect 3 have been "reprioritized" as a result of the Mass Effect 3: Extended Cut.

Gamers have until April 12, 2014 to claim the Mass Effect 3: Extended Cut. The move comes after BioWare said last month that it planned to revisit the Mass Effect 3 ending, and offer gamers new content.

You're still not going to get an "expanded" ending to the game, IMO.

This is just going to be "what happened to Character X" type stuff.

It's not going to expand the impact of whether you do/do not have a bunch of War Assets.

What this means is no Indoctrination Theory. It means the lead developer (Casey Hudson) is too proud to admit his ending sucked donkey dong and is sticking to it.

Maybe the original artistic vision was the indoctrination theory and this will just spell it out a little more clearly?

Mass Effect 3 Extended Cut

Posted on April 5, 2012 by darklarke

An official press release went out today announcing how we are re-prioritizing the Mass Effect 3 post release content schedule to provide a more fleshed out experience for our fans. For many of you the “Extended Cut” will help answer some questions and give closure to this chapter of the Mass Effect story. Oh and it’s at no cost to you – the fan.

Here is a mini FAQ to help you understand what the Mass Effect 3: Extended Cut is and isn’t:

What can fans expect from the Extended Cut DLC?

For fans who want more closure in Mass Effect 3, the DLC will offer extended scenes that provide additional context and deeper insight to the conclusion of Commander Shepard’s journey.

Are there going to be more/different endings or ending DLCs in the future?

No. BioWare strongly believes in the team’s artistic vision for the end of this arc of the Mass Effect franchise. The extended cut DLC will expand on the existing endings, but no further ending DLC is planned.

What is BioWare adding to the ending with the Extended Cut DLC?

BioWare will expanding on the ending to Mass Effect 3 by creating additional cinematics and epilogue scenes to the existing ending sequences. The goal of these new scenes is to provide additional clarity and closure to Mass Effect 3.

When will the Extended Cut DLC be available?

Currently the Extended Cut DLC is planned for this summer, no specific date has been announced at this point.

Why are you releasing the Extended Cut DLC?

Though we remain committed and are proud of the artistic choices we made in the main game, we are aware that there are some fans who would like more closure to Mass Effect 3. The goal of the DLC is not to provide a new ending to the game, rather to offer fans additional context and answers to the end of Commander Shepard’s story.

So there you have it. Are we proud of the game we made and the team that made it? Hell yes. Are we going to change the ending of the game? No. Do we appreciate the passion and listen to the feedback delivered to us by our fans? Very much so and we are responding.

Summer is coming…

That's me likely writing off BioWare forever.
None of the options except the destroy option if you've played Renegade and hated AIs through the game are acceptable. Even if they actually explain what happens in the end.

That just proves they are stupid dumb dumb dummy heads. :hot:

I'm probably not going to be too interested in watching a bunch of cutscenes this summer. The time when they were appropriate was back in mid-March, when I finished the game.

Gamers are generally not stupid, and Bioware has a huge following of older, educated gamers. With this pissing contest, they will lose in the end, and it will be interesting to see what career turns Mr. Hudson will have in the fallout.

I'm still holding out hope that the explanation will clear things up. Maybe ID theory is what they intended maybe it isn't. Im waiting to hear it from the horses mouth. If the ending was intended to be taken at face value, then they can just suck it for insulting their fanbase like that. sure they'll still be some lemmings that will buy the DLC and future content but the vast majority that was hoping for more clarity will be severely disappointed to the point that any future Mass effect games let alone bioware will be avoided by their own fanbase.

again, still waiting for them to explain what they truly meant by the ending.

If you've ever had the urge to start murdering characters from the first two games, I highly recommend not curing the genophage. I'm having a tough time forcing myself to pick renegade options, but I have I admit the scenes are really well done.

www.BoycottBioware.com is currently available. I am willing to bet it will not be within 1 week of this "extended cut".

I'm about to head back to Earth and will likely finish this game tonight. As it stands now, I feel like you are all being very dramatic about this... the game itself is pretty awesome, and even if the ending is as bad as you're all saying, that's still less than 1% of the game, IMO.

Will report back later tonight or tomorrow to either reinforce this point or eat crow. :banned:

How is it a pissing contest?...... They made a game......we played it.

:goodposting: Even if I come to the conclusion that the ending is completely stupid and ridiculous, I'd buy another Mass Effect game on release day in a heartbeat. Never played ME1, but between ME2 and ME3, I've gotten 100 or so hours of the best video gaming that I've probably ever played from this series.

If I was a guy who could just enjoy the journey despite the destination, that would be all I'd need. As it stands, this incredible journey that took me on highs and lows with some of the best characters ever created in video games, has left me in a ditch on the side of the road battered, bruised and confused as to how I got there. The result is to negate everything I did in the journey to the point that I can't even enjoy what I went through. Again, that is of course if their intention was to have that ending taken at face value. I really just want to hear what the writers' intentions were when they made it. At least it would give some clarity and perhaps closure. IF thats what it was then we can accept it as awful and move on. If they meant something else, then bravo. Lets continue the story.

I didn't hate it. What's the major beef with the ending? I did synthesis. I will try the others later I guess. My opinion is you take it at face value.

The after credits stuff kind of pisses me off now that I think of it.

Gamers are generally not stupid, and Bioware has a huge following of older, educated gamers. With this pissing contest, they will lose in the end, and it will be interesting to see what career turns Mr. Hudson will have in the fallout.
What should the ending have been? No one who's complaining about it has given me anything. I get that people like different things. I know that art is subjective. But no one's given me a concrete idea about the ending that they'd want. People complain that the kid at the end is some sort of deus ex machina. But he's not. He's just a narrator who fills the gaps in some of the story (and even then he/it was hinted at by the Prothean VI on the Asari home world....so it's not even like they threw that out of nowhere in the last minute of the game). If anything, the concept of The Crucible is a deus ex machina as the supposed all powerful Reapers are suddenly threatened by a machine from out of the blue. The idea of The Crucible killed the idea of giant fleet battles and hordes of Krogan and Rachni storming the Reaper Homeworld as a viable end scenario....not The "StarChilds" choice at the end of the game. A simple choice of live/die is an extremely logical ending to a scenario in which a giant machine capable of destroying all of your enemies at once is brought up. Sure, they could have given you a couple of Rachni/Geth/Asari troops fighting alongside you in the final battle (they kind of did....but that wasn't done as well as it could have been). But once the Crucible was in play, did you honestly think that you weren't going to end up there....making a big decision in it on the fate of the Universe?. The central idea behind Cerberus was that they felt they could control the monster....so did you not think that controlling the Reapers wasn't going to be a choice at the end....regardless of the end scenario?

Could the game have been better? Sure. (and since I'm asking people to give me something....I'll start) I would have:

1) Given you more characters to chose from....and if not during the whole game...

2) Allowed any of your crew who survived to either fight alongside you as an NPC, or create a scenario like at the end of ME2...in which you pick specific groups to go on specific missions. This would have been more personal than RANDOM ALLIANCE GUY dying as you send Jack, Mordin. Wrex to certain death to achieve your goal of reaching The Crucible.

3) I would have set up a next installment of the franchise by creating a storyline in which whatever race you didn't help,(Krogan/Salarian, Quarian/Geth....and I would have probably set something up in which you decided between the Turian and Asari homeworlds being destroyed)ended up siding with the Reapers under the assurance that they would have been exempt from the purge (as some races were). James Vega would have been a logical choice for the next installments lead character....and the next installment could have been MASS EFFECT: GALACTIC CIVIL WAR or something....FTR, my Universe would have been ***hed as the Asari, Turians and Humans are decimated.....the Salarians would have been the bad guys...the Geth (I chose them over the Quarians)would have been dead (as a result of my destroying all AI) and the Rachni and Krogan would have been breeding and ready to fight.

If Vega had been the next lead character, I would take back what I said about buying the next installment on release day. I thought that character was completely uninteresting and hollow.Maybe Ashley (who I know most of you hated) or Kaiden could be the next lead character (maybe you pick one or the other instead of choosing a male or female Shepard). But of course, not if Kaiden is bisexual.

They both died on me.....well I shot Kaiden.....but they are dead.I thought Vega because they added him, hes human and he was going to join N7.

Wait, what? You can kill Kaiden? How/when did you do that? Killing that whiny loser is worth another playthrough by itself. :)
