***Official*** Message Board Upgrade Clearinghouse Thread (1 Viewer)

In all seriousness, any way we can get a color differentiation between the blue dots that indicate every thread and the blue stars for ones you've posted in? Scanning quickly, the stars don't stand out very much and that's what I would use them for. Change them to red or something (maybe orange???).
This!

On the mobile version (iPhone Safari) I click a thread title to go to the last unread post. I read from there to the bottom of that page and then I see a "reply" button and a bunch of "page number" buttons

Example

What is not clear to me is which page I am on and which page is the next page.

OK, now the button for the current page has a 2px black border.

Is this thread where grown men who congregrate over pretend football teams come to get their panties in a bunch over changes to a free website?
When changes occur to a free website related to juvenile fantasy football teams where victory means zilliions of dollars and extra pride it must be dealt with quickly to prevent physical abuse to painted ponies.

How fast can you type?

I don't understand anything you wrote. How many warning points did I just win?

I'm cool with everything now on this version and the mobile version.

Pretty much.

Still wish we had that 'forum-jump' tab back at the bottom of every page. Also, my emotes are out of order. :hot:

I liked it at 1st.

Was clean and sleek, but now I feel it all just blends together. Not good separation of each thread.

I want my money back!

Agree

Another forum I'm on (using the same software) has a bar at the top with links to the key forums. Could we get something similar?

Animated avatars are back, for good or ill.
thanks!

Any way to change number of posts per page from 50 to 100, like you could before?
No, unfortunately that's gone for good. I was a 100 posts per page fan, too.
Gone for good? What the hell did you guys do?
Upgraded the software. Variable pagination was removed by the authors of the software a couple of versions ago. They ascribed the decision to esoteric things like "issues with post URLs being shared between members with different pagination settings", but I think the primary motivation was to move another entire step away from the concept of pages of posts. Pages (especially long pages) are the suck for mobile devices, which is where everybody's focus is. Give it another version or two and there probably won't be page links on the subforum topic view, either. Just the button at the bottom of the screen to "show more topics". Actually, it shouldn't even be a button, it should just trigger the "show more" event when you try to scroll past the bottom of the current page.

Forum software makers are all struggling to remain relevant in the mobile device/Twitter/Facebook world. They're going to continue to morph the products they put out to look more familiar to folks who are used to more modern platforms. But you can only hold off upgrading your forum for so long. Once the authors stop releasing security patches for the version of the board you're running, you're living on borrowed time. The version we were on was about to go unsupported, so we had to upgrade.

I love it when you talk all technical and stuff

Any word on tapatalk support? Wasn't that talked about with the last upgrade, but never came to fruition?
This is the first upgrade in a while. I'll look into adding it once things have settled down a bit and I can better gauge how it impacts the board.

My only real gripe about mobile version is when looking at the forum page, it says the title and pages of a thread like this

Warning points 5 pages

Instead of

Warning points 1 2 3 4 5

Sometimes I want to click page one of a thread, but if I've already read that thread there's no easy way to get back to page one. And its worse if there's 10 or more pages to a thread. Any fix possible for this?

There's no longer a notice at the bottom of the page that FBG is "Part of the USA Today Sports Media Group". Is that over?

I tried to reply someone who quoted a post I made in February that had a smilie. When I tried to respond, I got the "you've posted more images than you're allowed to" message. When I took out the smilie, the message went away and my reply was posted.

Of course, this could all have been averted if we could, um, actually post pictures.

Was just reading another thread and saw this. What means this?

Facebook has a spider now that crawls the internet -- it appears to get a heads up on which URLs to crawl by from the "Like" button, which essentially acts as a beacon for them because its content is hosted off of Facebook's site. The new site has the Facebook "Like" button rather than the old "share this post on Facebook" button -- that's probably why it's drawing FB's attention.

I don't know if this is a new feature or something I just found, but space bar works like a "page down" function in a thread. It's nice if you don't want to use your mouse or scrollbar.

:thanks:
