***Official Minnesota Vikings Draft Thread*** (1 Viewer)

I also am happy with our first two picks. Next up for us I think should be someone who can play C-G and not Nugent. We still have money to spend on another FA and/or draft a 2nd-tier Kicker in round 6-7.We Canadians now lost the ESPN feed so we're all restricted to radio and/or this site.SKOL :banned:

I think we should take Shazor in the 2nd. He is very underrated and would be a good pick there. I don't think he lasts until the 3rd.

I agree with this. With Birk's injuries and guard depth an issue, someone that could play both positions would be a good pick in the 2nd or 3rd.

I could never bring myself to endorse a kicker on day 1.
That isn't what you asked though. I see a major hole at the placekicking position, so I'd love to see the Vikings address that issue. Landing Nugent would be the ideal, but I doubt Studwell will let it happen. As for other positions, I'd vote for an eventual David Dixon replacement, as well as an eventual Pat Williams and Darren Sharper replacement as well. If they can't get that done, than BPA...regardless of position. Can never have enough "bigs" though.....

Shazor is what we call a "gamer." The boy can play regardless of what his numbers where.
I will take your word for it. I do not follow Michgan.Where would he line up for the Vikings as a SS or OLB? I would think the latter if his pro day 40 time is accurate.

Good question, one that I'm not sure I'm qualified to answer with my knowledge of the Vikes D, or lack there of. In the games I saw of his at UM, he looked plenty fast on the field, but most of all stood out as a solid tackler. So that is a tough call.

Wasn't Dan Cody supposed to be taken sometime today? I thought he was a first rounder. Not that they really need another d-lineman, but why is he dropping this far when he was projected to go in the teens?

Absolutely LOVE that pick!!! Takes the spot that Goldberg was going to take. Probably starts right away and if not, can play at either position. Hopefully we can bring back big Dave to back up at Guard as well. Great draft so far!!Now if only Shazor can fall to round 3!?!?!

I wanted Justin Miller or Elton Brown first but do like the pick. wish Nugent was around.Johnson is a starter at a need position. I like that we are addressing the few needs of this team. This kid is 6'6" 320lbs. Nice decent pick.

You guys should visit the Packer's draft thread, it's pretty funny. They were just starting to come to terms with taking Rogers when the Pack picked Nick Collins. The Pack is 2 for 2 today.

Any answers to this question?Baltimore: The rich get richer. Pretty good draft for them. Clayton most likely starts across from Mason and they get another first round talent to start on the d-line. Now if Boller blossoms at all, the AFC North is looking stronger.

Well, I think Mel just answered it...Not sure if he is strong enough. He will probably be a Johnstone type. A guy that will get sacks but could get overpowered vs. the run. Ravens did good getting him this late.

After 2 picks, the Vikes have 2 starters for now and the future. After 2 picks, the Pack have 0 starters for now and, well, a bad defense.

Actually, isn't it 3/3 Vikings?
Doh, you're right. I was just so stupified from the Nick Collins selection...

That really is a bizzaro-world pick. Not taking Cody is a fireable offense I would think. This year's final NFC standings:

Vikes

Lions (They could really surprise this year. If all 3 wrs are indeed healthy (and Garcia plays instead of harrington), we may see an offense like none other in the history of the league)

Bears

Pack

And then GB picked a WR??? This Collins kid can and probably will start at Safety for the Pack, but I don't understand their logic. I'm glad that we play the Pack twice though. :lmao: As for the Marcus Johnson pick, it's a good solid pick. He fills a need and can play G or T. Next up I wouldn't mind seeing Ernie Shazor in the 3rd, so we can have the Razor and the Eraser, Erasmus James.

S Dustin Fox - what can anyone tell us about him? And is he better than E.Shazor from MI?thx

The Sporting News has him listed as the best cover safety in the draft...probably because he has played mostly corner. Should be a decent nickel/dime guy. 4.49 speed. This is one that I will have to trust the braintrusts of the Vikes since I would have rather had Shazor.

Your group scout gives you what they call a ‘dance card,’ ” Fox says. “The card has times and room numbers on it. You don’t know what team you are interviewing with until you get to the room. The first night I had the opportunity to interview with the Vikings, Colts, Chiefs, Saints and Broncos. Later, I interviewed with the Steelers and Bills.”

Fox had been waiting to work out in front of the scouts, knowing he could impress them once given the chance.

“The day of workouts went great,” Fox says. “I began by vertical leaping 43-1/2 inches, which was my personal best. Next, in the second of my two 40s, my times ranged from 4.43 to 4.47 seconds. I was very happy with those times considering the notoriously slow track at the RCA Dome. In the drills, I caught the ball well and was told I ‘looked smooth.’

I was pulling for Shazor also, but I like this quote (from NFL.com) about Fox:
Was a true leader and one of the most consistent performers on the team … Gave the Buckeyes a rock-solid veteran in the defensive backfield …

Ooo, ooo, ooo!

The Pack is up!

Awww, they traded the pick.

That's probably for the best.
They just realized they have massive unfilled holes on defense and need more picks.

I don't like the Fox pick at all. We most likely could have gotten him in the 4th or 5th round. I REALLY hope we drafted him as a CB and not as a safety. Impressive stats though. If we drafted him as a safety I would have taken Sean Considene ahead of him. If we could have gotten Nugent in the 2nd we could have gotten Elton Brown in the 3rd. That would have been GREAT.

Willimson :X I hope I am wrongJames :excited: Johnson :excited: Missing nugent  Fox ??? A big Reach.I hope they can prove me wrong. :horns:

The Vikings were already one of the most improved teams in the NFC before today's draft. While I don't think Williamson should have gone before Mike Williams, there's no denying the kid has the potential to be a quality NFL starter. To add a quality wideout, plus Marcus Johnson (who I think it fantastic), plus a premier 4-3 pass rusher...it's almost hard to believe we're talking about the Minnesota Vikings, but we are.

And what makes this so great is watching the train wreck that is the Green Bay draft.A backup QB, a 5th round CB, and a 4th string WR. Love it!

1st day grade for vikins is B-. I think Fox and Willamson where reaches but still fit needs. Johnson and James were great picks. Now what do the vikings day 2?LB?Kicker?Kick Retuner?Punter?

The more I look at who we drafted tonight, the better I am feeling. I'll wholeheartedly admit to some MAJOR disappointment seeing the Vikings pass on Mike Williams in favor of Troy Williamson, but I'll give Studwell and Company the benefit of the doubt..........although I DO have to throw my :bs: flag when Studwell says that they had him ranked as the top WR on their board. If Braylon Edwards had been there at 1.07, I somehow just can't envision them passing on him.....although I thought the same thing about Williams too, so who knows?! If they would have though, then :loco: :X Troy Williamson: BErasmus James: A-Marcus Johnson: A+++Dustin Fox: BOverall draft grade so far: B+/A-

I have to admit, I'd never heard of Fox before they drafted him.Even though they may have taken him a little early, he sure seems like he could be a good pick.Let's see, he's a "tweener" between safety and corner. So I either get a corner with safety size (pretty handy given the Viking's division) or I get a safety that moves like a corner. I can live with that.I'm warming up to Williamson.I really like James. The o-line is an area of non-interest to me, but it sure sounds like they got a player there. The Viking's staff continues to turn in solid draft days. If they do as well tomorrow, that's three consecutive years. Pretty tough to do.Oh, and :cheese: :stillers:
