***Official National Signing Day thread*** (1 Viewer)

Yeah just looked. 120 players in the past 5 seasons, when max roster is 85.
Amazing kids (and especially parents) don't recognize this and go play elsewhere.  Somewhere they at least have a good chance at playing 4 years and getting a degree from the school.

Other schools tell them but it's a thin line. You don't want to insult a kid by saying he won't get time at Bama so come here.

Bama has a tremendous program, great coach, super recent history and they probably pay a little better than everybody else. The bag man must've made a big drop to get a 4-star to take a grayshirt.

You don't have to insult the kid. Saban is the one telling him he's not good enough to sign with this class. Other schools can easily say we love you and want you now he clearly doesn't.

That's true. I was actually thinking more of the kids on the back end of the class who are just going to sit around as well.

Yeah I imagine they do try to tell them what's up.  I'd like to think the HS coach would also be in the ear of the athlete with words of advice.

I don't quite understand why a 4 star recruit would take a grayshirt when many other good schools/programs are offering.  Hard to see the benefit there.

I think the BOL guys are the best at forecasting realistically, and the main guy just picked:

Bama - Ray (#26), Ruggs (#77), Devonta Smith (#64), Parks (#93)

Michigan - Solomon (#25)
He nailed our finish...

That gives FSU 3 out of the top 5 players in the country, and yet another person who decided FSU was better than LSU.

Yep.  Apparently being on a good defense was not a criteria for him.  Good job though,  y'all got a good one.

Maybe he wanted to be on a team that isn't completely irrelevant in its own division. Or maybe one who didn't just hire an extra from Police Academy to be their head coach. I dunno, just spitballing here.

Well rats. :kicksrock:

Seems like a good kid, hope he has success.  Hard to be unhappy with our class, either way about it. :)

Maybe, but he clearly didn't care about being on a really really bad defense.

So apparently Miami coaches tried to use a false message.board rumor to their advantage and negative recruit some Gator prospects.

Supposedly that's what flipped Edwards from Canes to Gators.

McElwain didn't name names but he went off on negative recruiting in his press conference.

FSU in the first half faced the heisman winner, trubisky, the national champ, brad Kaaya and Chad Kelly. All potential first round talents. Check the second half stats  -- and all this after losing Derwin James.

Your team faced the worst QB conference in the power 5 and you still had to fire your coach and play in some loser bowl named after chicken wings after you hired Grimace to lead your program. :bye:

Maybe Wilson will help you vault past North Carolina  :lmao:  and Louisville  :lmao:  and get back to being relevant on defense.

By the way, LSU played the Heisman winner last year as well.  Go ahead and see if he put 80 on them.  Played Chad Kelly too.

We had a better record, better bowl, better final ranking, our coach told you to pound sand and then so did Marv, and then you hired a talking spare tire to try to maintain your standing as the third-best program in your division. And then you lost to a crap Florida team after you tried to pu$$ out on playing them.

Sure, but my team beat Louisville and didn't give up 80 to them.  So at least we have that.
Yea congrats on the Buffalo wings bowl. Your program also spent 45 years going 4-7 annually until Saban came along and is finally headed back that way with Bobby Baccalieri as your head coach.

So stupid.  It was fun, but I'll let you get the last word here, Cappy.  All in good fun.  Mostly.

Dual Threat QB Justin Fields, the number one rated player in the country, committed to UGA this morning.

Huge get for the Dawgs.

Early Signing Day is Dec 20, right?

ETA:  Is it just one day or is it over multiple days?

Many experts expect about 75% of recruits to sign this week.  Most studs gone, so it will be crazy.  Apparently, many players that will announce later will also sign tomorrow, and just not have it be public knowledge until their big moment.

Why?

Besides the fact that it cuts down on the time guys like Saban can poach kids.
Wont it widen the gap between the haves and have nots?

The haves can dedicate resources to early signing as well as bowl prep. The have nots have to spread themselves thin....

That is one take I heard anyway...

What do you consider to be a have not?

I think it benefits the the P5 teams that aren't your typical top 15 teams.  If you've been recruiting a top kid and he doesn't sign this week then you have January to go recruit someone else instead of being left holding your johnson in February.  And vice versa if one of those schools finds a kid they really like and can get him to sign in December then the Alabama's can't steal him last second if they lose out on the 5-star kid they are going after.

Just a general term to say a football program with an enormous budget I guess.

I think if a big boy team strikes out on a commit on the early signing and he heads elsewhere...they move down a notch and swipe the verbal commitments to the mid tier teams. The middle guys have to sign their kids early or they will be circled like crazy in January.

Exactly. Those "middle guys" are the second tier P5 teams to the blue bloods, like the mid P5 teams are to the second tier, and on until we're talking bottom P5 to top of the G5.

The teams that actually recruit would want their kids locked up during their sophomore years if they could. The teams that basically settler their kids would prefer free agency right up until camp opens.

This is about the time I look at recruiting. I know we have the #1 and #3 guys committed. I also know the main guy people are stressing over is an OL from Tennessee who probably ends up at UGA.

10 years ago I was watching press conferences for guys like C.J. Spiller. I know it’s the lifeblood of a program, but I always felt a little scummy when I followed it closely.
