I don't see how there can be an application of that rule here.Watch the calvin johnson play to get a better understandingCan someone explain to me how that rule comes into effect when Dez was already down?
He took steps...landed on his elbow...THEN the ball hits the ground and pops up.
As soon as his elbow hits the ground...he's down, right?
He's not down until he is through the movement of completing the catch
Yeah ...taking a snap off the face while looking right at the ball probably cost them the game !I blame Romo for choking again.
That had nothing to do with officiating. That has more to do with the competition committee and the owners. Subtle but important distinction. Even then, you're still going to watch next week.So predictable. Officiating is ruining the NFL.I think it's more of the refs just throwing too many flags. We'll probably see a few bad calls against Dallas as well before it's over. What an effing joke.
NFL does want Dallas to win
Keep bringing the funny, Packer fansI don't know I'm happier about the Packers win or Malloy's retirement from football.
Hopefully you are watching the post game...they are explaining it pretty goodI don't see how there can be an application of that rule here.Watch the calvin johnson play to get a better understandingCan someone explain to me how that rule comes into effect when Dez was already down?

Dez goes up...catches the ball...brings it into his body and then switches it from his dominant hand to his left...while taking steps...lunges...right elbow hits the ground before his left hand comes down with the ball into the ground.
What else must a person do to establish a catch?
He caught it...check.
He has control of it...check.
He switches it from one hand to the other...football move? Check.
He takes steps while switching it from one hand to another...football move? Check.
He lunges for the endzone...football move? Check.
His off hand elbow comes down...he's down...check.
Are ANY of those in question above? If so...are you able to overturn all those "football moves"?
Agreed...even as a Packers fan.Once again the NFL reminds me that I have no idea what a catch is any more.
I sincerely disagree. He caught the ball, and then going to the ground, the ball bounced up into the air out of his arms and back into it. If you have to possess the ball through contact with the ground, I'm not sure where the confusion is.Even though I'm a Pat's fan I feel for you Dallas fans. YOU should be advancing. Not the Packers. This rule needs to change.
Which is ridiculousWatch the postgame. This isn't difficult. He has to maintain throughout the catch. This rule is 4 years in. Steps mean nothing.

Maybe a bad call...but you cant say it would make Dallas advance.Even though I'm a Pat's fan I feel for you Dallas fans. YOU should be advancing. Not the Packers. This rule needs to change.

Yes, it's a shame when silly rules help you advance in the playoffs.Even though I'm a Pat's fan I feel for you Dallas fans. YOU should be advancing. Not the Packers. This rule needs to change.
Really wanted that. I love seeing Jerry's face every time the Cowboys get knocked out. Priceless. Time to fire coach.Camera to Jerry Jones, please.
He's going to the ground. Steps and football moves and all that is irrelevant. If you are going to the ground you have to maintain possession the entire time. He clearly did not. Almost as delicious as the fact that Chris Christie finally paid his own way this time, just to see them lose. How delicious that Aikman had to call this loss.
Pereira had a good explanation on the post-game just now. If you're going to the ground 'the process' of the catch doesn't end until you hit the ground and you have to have control of the ball all the way through. As long as you're on your way down when you make the catch it doesn't matter what happens in-between, on the way down.I don't understand how a guy who catches a ball in both hands as he's going to the ground, shifts the ball to one hand to extend to the end zone ISN'T making a football move.
Which means...
Seriously don't understand this view. The ball LEFT HIS HANDS COMPLETELY after having hit the turf.Just because the ball moves doesn't mean the receiver doesn't have control :/
I really don't like that rule
How so? Everytime we see a RB switch the ball from one hand to the other in order to put his body inbetween the defender and the ball...we applaud him for being smart to protect the ball.Should have held onto the ball. whyif Rodgers can heal up more I like their chances in Seattle
The ball hit the ground and popped away from him. How did you not see that on replay? It's insane....an the ball never left his body......never. He had it all the way even after rolling into the end zone.Total BS. Dez made an amazing catch. He had complete control until he reached towards the end zone. F'ing ridiculous.
How do you take away a play like that?
***k replay. I have ben pounding the table about this for years here. Ruined the game people.
One play shouldn't decide a game. Could have made a lot of other plays.Congrats to the Packers. That said, Im done watching this season. Reminds me of the Megatron TD that got disallowed. Its a joke.
You missed where Dez pushed off before the non catch and also where he did not maintain control through the process. LOL!
I understand this is the rule and by the rules it was the correct call (I just puked into my mouth a little bit typing that) but, to me that was a catch and it's a shame the rules are the way they are.I sincerely disagree. He caught the ball, and then going to the ground, the ball bounced up into the air out of his arms and back into it. Actually, I get the confusion, but I think at this point I've got it a bit worked out by eye. Thanks, NFL.
whoa there. Way too early to say that. Most people are trying to digest what the actual rule is. When people understand the rule, they will start making their opinions known. Mark my words, this will be one of the most controversial calls of all-time. And that's not hyperbole.ON such a controversial call there is surprising consensus that they got it right
May be the same result but very different plays. Dez juggled it after it hit the ground. Calvin caught it and placed it on the ground.Congrats to the Packers.
That said, Im done watching this season. Reminds me of the Megatron TD that got disallowed. Its a joke.
Calvin clearly had possession, he controlled the ball in one hand and then intentional left it on the ground.the difference, I think, is that Calvin wasn't making a football move. Dez, in my opinion, was making a football move by lunging toward the end zone. A football move is what distinguishes that a catch is over.Wasn't a catch. Not even close. Calvin took three steps, rolled over on the ground in the end zone and in the process of getting up, used the football to push off the ground and lost the ball. Calvin's was way more of a catch than that one according to the adapted logic.I don't think him stretching forward was part of the catch. I think the catch was completed and he he was making a football move to the end zone. WAY too close to overturn something like that, particularly on a rule that sucks to begin with. Jerry is gonna be apoplectic. That's the only case for this being a bad call but i thought it was more of him just stretching while falling forward. He was falling forward there in any circumstance...it wasn't him leaping for the end zoneI thought Perreira said the rule is he must complete the catch and make a football move. Looked pretty clear to me that he caught the ball and then made a football move stretching the ball towards the goal line.
Yes, the tuck was a silly rule. Can we move on now?Yes, it's a shame when silly rules help you advance in the playoffs.Even though I'm a Pat's fan I feel for you Dallas fans. YOU should be advancing. Not the Packers. This rule needs to change.
#tuck
Then why isn't this considered everytime we see a running back do it to lunge to the endzone? They look at if his knee, elbow or something was down before the ball hits the ground. He's going to the ground. Steps and football moves and all that is irrelevant.
