***Official*** NFL Draft Thread 2005 (1 Viewer)

Detriot's selection is proof positive of why they'll always suck.  That pick should have been traded.
Why? What if Mike Williams is going to have a stellar career?
Then Rogers or Williams wouldn't have. Besides, Minny, Indy, and KC have tried this all offense approach.

Who will take Rodgers?

9. Washington -- Seems doubtful. Defensive player or Mike Williams.

10. Detroit -- Don't see how they do that with Harrington and Garcia.

11. Dallas -- Parcells has had his fill of young QBs with question marks.

12. San Diego --- LOL

13. Houston -- Not a chance with Carr.

14. Carolina -- Very doubtful for a win now team.

15. Kansas City -- If they don't draft defense...

16. New Orleans -- Win now team. Don't think Rodgers fits their plans.

17. Cincinnati -- Not a chance with Palmer.

18. Minnesota -- Not a chance with Culpepper.

19. St. Louis -- Martz won't think that far ahead. Win now team.

20. Dallas -- See above re: Parcells

21. Jacksonville -- LOL

22. Baltimore -- They are SB contenders, they can't waste this pick.

23. Seattle -- They'd get eaten alive considering their D problems.

24. Green Bay -- Heir apparent for Favre is trendy, but they need so much D.

25. Washington -- Is it possible he slips this far?

26. Oakland -- I could see Oakland taking him, Collins is no long term answer.

27. Atlanta -- LOL

28. San Diego -- LOL

29. Indianapolis -- LOL

30. Pittsburgh -- LOL

31. Philadelphia -- LOL

32. New England -- LOL

Someone tell me what I'm missing here? I can't see more than one or two teams likely to take Rodgers.
Oh c'mon. Now you are talking like you've never watched an NFL draft before.Someone WILL take him just as a value pick and it won't make a lick of sense on paper. That's how these things always happen.

Saying Minnesota has the edge at QB is like saying Fabian Washington has the edge on Jason Wood in speed.
:lmao: Career TD passesCulpepper: 129Garcia: 123hmm....has Jason been training at Don Beebe's speed camp lately?

I think it's official that Williamson will be drafted before Mike Williams in most dynasty rookie drafts.
Like I've been saying for weeks now. Williamson = #1 WR in this draft. Too bad I will have no chance at landing him now with my 9 pick in the dynasty league I'm in.

As to further kill the Rodgers to GB thoughts (which I realize is trendy but I think is absolutely moronic)...The selections of Williamson and Williams to the NFC North just about guarantees GB takes a D player, like a CB (Fabian Washington perhaps).

I thought this was a great write-up:Pat Kirwan's Analysis:

Rogers ranked first on some boards, and if the Redskins said he was their top corner, believe them. At 6-0 and a 3.82 short shuttle, this is an extraordinary athlete who will provide Gregg Williams the opportunity to increase his presuure defense. Here is the kind of athlete needed to line up on T.O. and get physical. It's a big day for the Auburn athletes -- three in the top nine.
Lots of Wash fans seem upset with the pick, but this kid is a player and adds much needed youth to the CB position.

:lmao: Career TD passes

Culpepper: 129

Garcia: 123

hmm....has Jason been training at Don Beebe's speed camp lately?
:fishing: Has to be - this is just too funny to even give a serious response to - I don't know whether to :lmao: or :hot:

After the picks of Carroll and Thomas last year?

Ware has flown up the charts lately. Probably the fastest riser out of all players in this draft.I'm surprised they passed on Merriman. Perhaps this means they'll definitely be going 3-4 on D as Ware is pretty light to play straight up DE in a 4-3.

Culpepper total yards last year: 5123Garcia's total yards last year: 1900

From the way Jones talked the other day they had all but ruled it out. Ware isnt any smaller than a guy like Freeney. Speedy edge rushers are all the rage nowadays.

Demarcus Ware @11. I like it! I would have rather slipped a few more spots, but with S.D and Hou coming up they would take him possibly, so they went with there gut and got a great motor in Ware.

Here's what I wrote about DeMarcus Ware when I took him at 2.07 in the mock draft:

DeMarcus Ware, LB, Troy State

Physically, he's a Derrick Johnson clone. Who knows how high Ware would have gone if he played at Texas, but let's break down the two:

Height/Weight

Ware: 6-4, 251

Johnson: 6-3, 242

40 yard/20 yard/10 yard

Ware: 4.56/2.71/1.62

Johnson: 4.52/2.66/1.61

Vertical Jump/Broad Jump

Ware: 38.5 /10'2

Johnson: 37.5/10

Shuttle/Cone

Ware: 4.07/6.85

Johnson: 3.93/7.21

Bench Press/Wonderlic

Ware: 27/20

Johnson: n/a/21

The bottom line, is that they're dead even on the measurables. Ware is a playmaker, something the Jets haven't had at OLB in a long, long time. Ware has excellent speed and quickness, and will be a major pass rusher for the Jets. He had 10.5 sacks and 19 tackles for losses last year, and will be used immediately on third downs.

In retrospect, it's amazing that he goes before Derrick Johnson isn't it? A few months ago I saw Johnson as the NUMBER ONE PICK and Ware not in the first THREE ROUNDS.

to carry this charade out even longer.put Garcia in Minny last year and CPepp in Cleveland and project their performance.

true. I just thought Merriman was a lock to Dallas. Guess it was a smokescreen.

WTF? Am I the only one completely confused by this? Was Ware supposd to go this high?
Yes. Somewhere between 11-20
I guess I just didn't think Dallas would end up taking him... I can see down at 20, but... wow. A sub-250 DE as #11 in the 1st. Crazy.
250 lbs with room to grow. Runs a 4.5, jumps 45". Crazy athleticism.
Absolutely, and I think he'd make one hell of a LB. Dallas isn't thinking 4 LBs though, right? So... I know he's Freeney size, but everyone knows the Colts can't stop the run... and they're in a division with Westbrook, Portis, etc... I just don't think it's a value pick.

Trade up. I traded from the 1.09 to the 1.05 for my 2nd and 3rd round picks. I hope it ends up being worth it.

:link: ?what mock draft are you talking about? your own? or one with a bunch of people?
Sorry Aaron. I thought you might remember it since you participated in it after all;)http://forums.footballguys.com/forum/index...e=demarcus+ware
:D I participated in like 3 or 4 of them...but, you kept calling it THE mock draft, so I figured I missed the memo on which was the important one.

I'm not a college football fan, but I got a few rips for comparing Ware to Johnson. Shouldn't this be a big deal that Johnson hasn't been taken yet???
