***Official Pearl Jam Thread*** (3 Viewers)

Initial impressions-It sounded like he was a little hoarse and the mic wasn't turned up enough.-Great energy-Same observation about lyrics-This is probably one of those songs that I need to hear on the album a few times to appreciateDidn't blow me away, but I'm satisfied
Point by point, I was thinking the exact same thing. His voice cracked, the mike seemed low, and the lyrics were hard to make out, the energy was high, and I'll definitely need to listen to it a few times. The instrumentals were great though.I like the song, but I don't know yet if I love it.

The sounds on my bedroom TV sucks, so I couldn't make out a single word. I couldn't really hear the music for anything other than the general rhythm. I agree with whoever said it is the kind of song I'll need to give a few listens to before it catches me.

The one observation I could make, though, is that Eddie is looking a little old.

I thought Eddie sounded (and looked) fine, and I liked the song, but I question the choice to play a fast, loose song like that as the first peak at a new album. Everyone in the Conan thread hated it, and most people here seem "meh."

"The '59 Sound" is the latest album; title track is a good place to start. Think Bruce channeled through The Clash. If this is of interest, you should be able to dig for some more links.

Re: Conan...agreed with most comments. Solid, but not spectacular. Will save the DVR recording and revisit.

Eddie's gotta give up the smokes!

I would recommend the album if you want to check out Gaslight Anthem, it is a good piece. If you can't find it for free, take basic internet lessons. Another good Springsteen wannabe record from last year was the Hold Steady's Stay Positive

My friend called me this morning and said, "So, this is the great rock and roll band you are always running around the country to see!? What the hell happened to them! They look over the hill and washed up! That was awful."

I guess they won't be winning over any "average tv viewers/fringe music fans" with that one, but thats never been their goal anyway.

Sounded good to me after 3-4 listens.. just wish the mix was better. TV talk shows never seem to get the mix right.

Yeah it's all good! I know alot of people that bought and loved Ten and Vs but never sniffed another album. Many around here like that too. Those people are not coming back (and that's not a bad thing). They move on to the next hot thing or find something new, good for them. People generally don't follow bands for long periods of time like they used to imo. They don't know what they're missing. Mix in a few haters and you're gonna see alot of "bad press". Go to where the "base" is and you'll see more positive reaction and contructive criticism.

:lmao: Let the peasants have their Shinedown. Hard enough to get good PJ seats as it is.

Official Title is "Got Some"

I've downloaded "Got Some" and the 2 xmas single songs "Santa Cruz" and "Golden State" from youtube and am converting to mp3. Will upload as soon as i can

About time the Christmas single came out. Looking forward to high quality version on a torrent site hopefully soon. Thanks for these.

Just listened to it again twice...it's growing on me (like I thought it would)
listened to it a bunch tonight.......i'm really digging this song....I'm sure the album version with some turned up vocals will be great.
My DVR ####ed up so I haven't had a chance to give it a 2nd/3rd/4th listen but I'm pretty obviously looking forward to the album... As an aside, this Sunday morning I begrudgingly agreed to mow the lawn (GF was on my ### about it) and I threw on my iPod and started in with Leg One Live (Thanks again Zilla!)... Next thing I know I'm done mowing and I'm in a great groove so I hit the garage and grab some pruning shears and a bowsaw and get to work on the shrubs/trees. Most productive Sunday in the yard in months. My GF thanks you 'Zilla  :lmao:

For the 06 tour JZilla put together two mixes, one for Leg One and one for Leg TwoThey were a sampling of a top notch version of just about every song played on those legs

No worries. Not asking anyone to go through any big trouble. Just didn't know if the ZIPs were still online or easily up-loadable somewhere.

It's one of those things that will either be uber easy or uber difficult, if it is the former, then it is not an issueIf it is the latter it will take a bit longerI need to figure this out anyway

Sounds very cool. Jealous.

I don't have em anymore, sorry

I had so much Pearl Jam live crap eating up hard drive space I just had to suck it up and whack it all.

PJ fan and EW.com writer/blogger Whitney Pastorek also spoke with band manager Kelly Curtis regarding the Target shoot (hey, target shoot, get it?) and future album release. Original article is here. After an interview with Pearl Jam manager Kelly Curtis, EW can confirm that the band has established a partnership with Target for the release of their next record, currently titled Backspacer, which is tentatively slated to drop September 22.Curtis, who is in Los Angeles preparing for the band’s appearance on the premiere of Conan O’Brien’s Tonight Show this evening, says he wishes this information could have stayed in the can a bit longer: “We wanted to announce this when we could talk about everything, who our partners are,” he tells Music Mix. “It’s not just via Target. They’re obviously the big retail chain that we love and adore that’s going to release this record. We’re also going to release it through our fan club, and Target was cool enough to allow us to pick up little indie [stores], too. They’re taking care of the little guy. The little guy is not their competition.”The Thursday night show was indeed a shoot with Crowe: Possible first single “The Fixer” was filmed for the Target ad, and three other tracks (including a cover of band fave “Sonic Reducer”) may appear on additional materials for online or European release. Despite the fact that the audience was made up of paid extras — “There’s a lot of unemployed actors in Seattle,” says Curtis, “and we wanted to go through all the proper unions and make sure everyone got paid” — and that all those in attendance signed non-disclosure agreements, word of the Target partnership leaked out via blog posts and Twitter, causing some predictable cries of “selling out” and “hypocrisy” from the usual corners of the net. Curtis, while not thrilled by this turn of events, feels it was inevitable. “Some story was going to come out regardless — we wanted to at least be able to confirm that it’s not what you think it is. If something is talked about and it’s wrong, it just becomes fact.”The new album marks the first to be self-released by the band, who were signed to Sony for the past 18 years. (2006’s eponymous avocado album was released by J Records, a Sony subsidiary.) “When we decided we were going to release this record ourselves in America,” Curtis says, “we removed that whole layer of the record company. And by the way, [the record company is] a bigger #######’ corporation than Target is. They owned our music and owned our masters. Now we own everything, and control everything, and we’re choosing who we want to be partners with. Who will allow us the freedom to pick the kind of people we want to work with? Target was the only one out of all those [big chain] guys that was forward-enough thinking to allow us to think outside the box.” Along with making the record available at small independent retailers, Curtis also hints at a cell-phone partnership, and says some green and charity initiatives are in the works. When asked why the band — whose anti-corporate stance has, whether perceived or real, become part of their identity over the past two decades — chose to team up with a big-box retailer rather than following the Radiohead or Trent Reznor models of direct self-release, Curtis says, “With all due respect to everybody, everybody’s trying to figure this out, right? I think it’s really important to us to be able to have a level playing field, so everybody has access. So it’s not just people with computers. It’s people that go to Target, it’s people that go online, it’s people who might want to hear it on their cell phone, it’s people who want to go through the fan club.“This is all an experiment. We’re trying to figure it out. It’s changing all the time, and this is the best way to do it ourselves that we can think of. By the time we put out our next record it could be completely different, or, you know, all those things will fail and we’ll go back with our hat in our hands and beg for our jobs back at Sony.” He laughs. “I doubt that. It’s not an exact science. And people need to relax just a little bit. We’re doing the best we can.”

Can't argue with that. I don't fault them for the Target thing at all. You work on an album for a year plus... you expect to make some money. No one is gonna get ####ed because of the Pearl Jam - Target deal.

Sept 22 though.. sheebs  I was hoping for something in the summer.

The point about the record company being a bigger corporation than Target is spot on and a great point that always gets overlooked by people crying "Sell Outs!"

So let's just say Sept 22nd is a firm release date.

I find it hard to believe they won't do a winter arena tour in the States. Or maybe head over to aussie/japan/south america/wherever in winter and then blast onto the scene here with early spring into summer tour. I know they have a few things lined up this Fall, but to totally skip winter and wait about 6 months after the release to start touring (thinking March-ish) doesn't seem logical. I'm sure we could correlate past release dates and tours.....

Which means they'll be down my way again sometime around Easter 2012.

Next week should be pretty good...

Wed June 17th - Eddie Vedder at the legendary Ryman Auditorium in Nashville, TN

Saturday June 20th - Eddie Vedder at the beautiful Orpheum Theater in Memphis, TN

Am I going to be the first here to see/review the solo Eddie Shows?

No. He's done quite a few over the past year. Although not in my neck of the woods.
