***Official Pirates 2016*** - Home of the Defending Stanley Cup Champs (1 Viewer)

Not sure Watson is the answer at closer. That's what, 3 or 4 blown saves now, in not much time?

I'd try Bastardo at this point.

Watching the Bucs during this Cubs series has been brutal.  Blowing leads 3 times on Monday was painful and yesterday they weren't even in the game despite decent pitching.

I'm not sure how tonight's game will play out but there was no doubt In my mind that Cutch was going to strike out with the bases loaded in the 4th and sure enough he did.

I can understand why you  keep playing him but there is no way he should be in the top order of the lineup at this point in the season.  He just isn't the hitter he was and keeping him at #3 has been hurting this team horribly.

I know that technically the Pirates can win 2 out of 3 from the Cardinals and be right in the thick of wild card but man it looks like the life of this team has been sucked out of them.  Pitching is as bad as ever this year and some extremely lazy play today in a really important game.

No way this team is going to the playoffs.  They don't really do anything well so it's kind of shocking that they're only 1 game under .500.

This team is a trainwreck.  It has been hit with cheap ownership, horrible front office decisions, devastating injuries to key players, a bullheaded manager, terrible base running,  horrendous starting pitching, recent bullpen collapses, a slumping star player and plain old bad luck.

It is amazing they are only 1 game under .500 but this team could be leading the wildcard race if it were run a little better/smarter.

Ugh wasn't hoping to see this bumped until 2017. What a deplorable past month this has been. Thank God for football and hockey season.

ThaPenguin said deplorable.  Prophetic term.

Folks, NH is going to trade McCutchen.  They've been laying the PR groundwork to cushion the news for some time.  Stuff about his fielding decline, etc.  Nonsense.  If they just admit they can't afford him next season, they should own up and say so.  Whatever they get in return (most likely a mediocre pitcher and a prospect) can't equal the value that would be departing, in terms of Cutch's high profile as the Bucs' star or his production on the field.

Given Marte's back and Polanco needing plasma-type injections, you'd expect them to retain the face of the franchise.  But it's been about money for, well . . . . ever..

Hmmmnnn.  Looks like the organization remains in continuous improvement delay-mode.  Might be gearing up for 2020, like political parties do.

Since the club punted 2016 despite nearly within reach of a playoff slot, what are the plans for 2017 apart from the usual subtraction first/addition later?  Hated to be prophetic about dealing Cutch but it was a no-brainer given the organization's bean-counting mentality.

Sean-Rod signs elsewhere, Cutch will be traded for prospects, and Kang will likely be cut or suspended due to his DUI accident.   Three of your top four HR producers last year gone and this from a team that lost two of it's top HR producers the year before.    Polanco and maybe Marte and Bell provide some pop but other than that not a whole power on this team.

If they trade Cutch it is imperative that they get a #2 or #3 starting picture or a not-yet-washed-up veteran that could start and provide some power.  My guess is that won't happen.

The Pirates have also reportedly been shopping Harrison and Watson as well.   If those happen that will really be stripping this team.

Only 4 starters will likely remain from the 2015 team and only 1 (2 if you count Polanco) from the 2014 team.   That is a heck of a lot of turnaround for a young team.

Signed Nova today which is nice. A trade for Quintana and the rotation would be nice for years.
I don't care what the rumors are.  Quintana will cost multiple top prospects. When is the last time the Pirates have traded multiple top prospects for anyone?  This organization covets their prospects.  They're not getting Quintana.

I agree that it won't happen. Bell and maybe Meadows are the only 2 I wouldn't move. I've heard Glasnow's name and I'm alright with that.

Now a 3  team trade rumor; Cutch to yanks and Glasnow and others to Sox for Quintana? No thanks.
Getting a guy like Quintana is what it will take to get this team back into the playoffs.  Losing Cutch would suck but they have depth in the outfield.  Also, let's face it - Cutch is not a center fielder anymore.  I'm not too worried about losing Glasnow.   Quintana >> Glasnow at least for the next few years IMO.
