***Official Seattle Mariners 2013 Thread*** (1 Viewer)

3-4 not a terrible opening road trip but a bit of a downer when they were 3-2 and had their ace and #2 going for 2 chances to make it a winning road trip and each game is a 3-4 loss. Just incredible how they struggle in Chicago.

Excited for the home opener today and hope they show a lot of it on TV. Making the trip from Portland on Thursday to be part of the Supreme Court for Felix's first home start. Improvements at Safeco sound great.

Oof... Dropped the home opening series to the Astros in front of 10,000 people the last two nights. We're a long way from that 2-0 start. :topcat:

Pretty sad, the first 6 losses were all in games that a Mariners win would take the series. Could easily be 3 series wins right now but that's why they're not a contending club, better teams win those series.

And really bad that Saunders and Morse are out since they were a couple of the better bats so far.

Supreme Court was decent but the energy wasn't as high as I was expecting. Guessing it was a lot to do with the weather, just not great a great temp to watch a game in.

Sigh, I wasn't fooled by the power surge in Spring Training that these guys would be a potent or even decent offense but thought it would be at least a step up. And of course when Felix gives them a gem, they can't do anything about it. In fact a defensive error leads to the only run so Felix leaves after 8 ip, 12 Ks, 4 hits, 0 ER and won't get anything for it. I guess the bright side is the Mariners tied it up so he wouldn't get the loss.

it's early but I thought this offense would be a bit better than it's been. Their team OPS is .645 compared to .665 last year and .640 in 2011. Moving the fences in hasn't even seemed to help.

I thought at least one of their young bats would develop but Montero, Smoak, Seager and Ackley are collectively hitting below the Mendoza Line. If you take Seager out, the other three are barely slugging above the Mendoza Line. When Franklin Gutierrez is your second best hitter, you've got a bad offense.

Wow, still zero series wins and played the Astros twice. Astros are 4-2 vs Mariners and 3-12 against everyone else. About the only positive thing to say offensively lately is Seager has a 13 game hitting streak?

King is on a roll right now, 2 ER in last 4 games. This was actually in the Seattle game notes before the 4-22 game but Felix added another tonight

'THE FELIX QUALITY START...a new stat may need to be coined The Felix Quality Start, when a starter throws at least 8.0 innings while allowing 1 or fewer runs, which Felix Hernandez did in his last start on April 17 vs. Detroit (8.0,4,1,0,0,12)…Felix recorded 12 such starts in 2012, while no other MLB pitcher had more than 7 (R.A. Dickey, NYM) and no AL pitcher more than 6… since his debut in 2005, Felix has recorded 48 FQS (Felix Quality Starts) including 13 during his Cy Young season in 2010…he has also recorded 22 career starts with 8.0 or more innings and zero runs allowed, the most in the Majors since his debut in ‘05.'

Another great outing for Felix - on pace for 20 wins. Another Felix Quality Start. 50th of his career.

Another series win despite blowing game 1. After the offensive out burst Wednesday, really expected a bad game today but everyone in the pitching staff did enough to make 3 hold up.

Ouch, win a bunch of 3 game series 2-1(with a split of a 2 gamer in there) to get to 1 game under .500 and then get swept in a 4 gamer to set themselves back. That series was ugly and they saved the worst for last today. Screwing up a 3-1 for the last out with your closer dropping the ball to let them tie in the 9th.

Looking forward to the Zunino era, but not quite sure he is ready to come up yet. Plus, it's not like he's going to make a huge difference this year. Adding him now is in no way going to fix all the problems this team has this year. Smells of desperation from management right now to say they are doing something, that they are trying. Just seems like they are trying to save their jobs more than anything.

Love the Mariners infield, could be solid for years to come.

Just heard the M's longest winning streak this year is 3 games. Awful.

I don't think so. The Mariners really have 3 guys who should only be DH: Morales, Ibanez and Morse. All three are awful in the field.
