As you look over the stadium - kind of just right of center - you can see the top of London Stadium - where West Ham play now.  Emirates would be at about the same position if the photo was looking from the North-East corner.

The Lilywhite House on the north-side of the stadium houses Spurs corporate offices and has a walkway/bridge directly to the stadium.

Its a little harder to tell - but the building adjacent to the stadium on the SouthWest corner - is the Club Shop - in partnership with Nike, it is the largest club shop in Europe.

It always amazes me how close together some of these stadiums are. And not just one or two but several around London.  Plus Everton and Anfield, Emptiad and Old Trafford.

I guess Wrigley and whatever the name is the White Sox play in are close, and maybe Citi and Yankee.  But to see one from the other just always blows my mind.

This reddit stat is an interesting microcosm of how different leagues work tactically.

The team in the Bundesliga with the lowest ground covered stat, is higher than the team in Serie A with the most ground covered stat.

Good thing Adams and Weston are in Germany :)

Yeah it would.  And TT is pretty reliable.

theyre transitioning to a 4-4-2 diamond, at least in preseason.  Can Fabián play the top of the diamond?

that was all we got in the US for a loooong time. and I'm trying to remember if that ran with a sweeper- IIRC, it did.

we used a sweeper/stopper back in high school but our midfield was more flat.

The sweeper is all but gone from the game now.  Even the teams that play 3 in the back don't employ the middle player like an old fashioned sweeper.

The position may have died when Baresi retired.

we played 4-3-3 in HS (sweeper/stopper and then flat across the other lines), but the 4-4-2 at club, district, state and regional level (and I assume national) and most of the way through college until we switched to a 3-5-2 my last year. sweeper/stopper, defensive/holding CMF, attacking CMF, forwards constantly interchanged Left/Right, high/low. 

the defense also played man-to-man. so I recall defenders running all over covering the forwards. and the stopper just sat there in the middle winning air balls or doubling up with the FBs, with the sweeper picking up the diagonal and through balls.

Growing up I seem to recall us playing a 4-4-2 with stopper/sweeper most seasons, although my freshman team in hs played the most awesome 3-3-4

 
Just realized we are just a couple weeks away from CCL matches.  I need to figure out how to get a ticket.  Our first home match will be against Cincy.  Will be great to see the new team.

I don't even remember if RBs qualified... winning the supporter's shield got them in, right?

don't even know who will be playing for them. don't feel good about this season, given the current personnel. hoping they get a couple new quality signings... BWP looked done by the end of last season. they need somebody else to play along side as well as replace him.

the leagues are now all aligned to the new Champions League schedule so from this point on, all teams will qualify based on the current years events only.

Milan apparently have signed Allen St Maxine for their first summer transfer. 5 yr contract 21M fee plus bonuses according to media set. Deal will happen if Milan qualifies for CCL though.

normally yes, but because of the CCL schedule switch, the Supports Shield winner spot was changed to encompass the best aggregate record over two seasons (which is how NYR got in).

Starting this season, we will be back to the normal SS winner qualifying.

 
Paulo Maldini's youngest son is said to be one of the best players in Milan's academy.  If he can make it all the way to the first team, it would mean:

Grandfather, Father and Son all played for Milan.

French club Nantes have demanded payment from Cardiff City over the £15m transfer of Emiliano Sala, BBC Wales has learned.

Argentine striker Sala, along with pilot David Ibbotson, was on board the Piper Malibu N264DB which lost radar contact near Guernsey on 21 January.

Sala, 28, is Cardiff's record signing but never played for the club.

Cardiff have withheld the first scheduled payment until they are satisfied with the documentation.

The transfer fee is due to be paid in installments over three years.

In a later interview with French newspaper L'Equipe, Cardiff chairman Mehmet Dalman indicated that Nantes had sent an invoice for the first instalment, worth 6m euros (£5.27m).

In the same interview Dalman added: "We must show respect to the family. There is the process of recovering the plane."

On Thursday night the Air Accidents Investigation Branch (AAIB) said a body had been recovered from the wreckage.

Cardiff had earlier expressed "surprise" that Nantes made the demand while the recovery attempts were under way.

It is understood Nantes are threatening legal action if they do not receive a payment within 10 days. The BBC has attempted to speak to Nantes for comment.

 
I have always thought that there are two team sports that have resisted evolving with the times.  That being baseball and soccer.

With that being said, I have been looking on with interest at the fairly major rule changes MLB is actively talking about with the players (for those not aware, the talk is off a pitch clock, a 3 batter minimum for all relievers and adding the DH to the national league). Many experts feel these are all going to be added to the game within the next 12-14 months.

And that would leave just soccer as not having a meaningful rule change since the early 90's (pass back to the keeper and even is onside).

sounds like it should really speed up the baseball games. from 4 1/2 hours to something like 4 2/5 hours.

 
I know it's not universal, but video replay is a pretty major rule change. and all those "used to be a perfectly fine tackle is now a yellow or red card" changes happened too.

I am slightly against VAR because I think more times than not it hurts the offense in a sport where giving even more advantage to the defense is not needed.

Maybe if and when the AR's and all the players fully understand that they can keep the flag down until the play is over, maybe it will all balance out.

The long strange journey for Andrew Gutman appears to have reached a conclusion.

I will try to summarize:

* Chicago Fire academy player

* Decided to go to college where he ended up being the Herman Award winner

* Chicago tried to sign him to a home grown deal a couple of times but never were able to close

* Gutman decided to take a trial at Celtic

* He impressed at Celtic where they were reported to want to sign him

* Reports then come out that Gutman went AWOL and Celtic was done with him

* Two days later Celtic announced that they have signed Gutman and were going to immediately loan him to Nashville until the summer

* Chicago Fire (I am assuming) pulled a hissy fit and went to MLS league headquarters not wanting the player they own the rights to, to end up in Nashville (who is a future MLS expansion team).

* MLS was able to force Nashville to reneg on the loan deal leaving Celtic and Gutman collectively saying "WTF?"

* Today Celtic announced that Gutman will be loaned to Charlotte Independence.  Charlotte Independence is coached by Jim McGuiness who worked in the Celtic youth system as a coach

American soccer in a nut shell :(

Fun stat of the day! :)

Everton, managed by Marco Silva, have the 3rd worse record in PL history on conceding set piece goals (to this point in the season).

The other two teams that were worse, Hull and Watford, were also managed by Marco Silva
