*** Official *** Star Wars Episode 9: The Rise of Skywalker (1 Viewer)

It was very good. You are very jaded if you put this movie at the bottom of your Star Wars rankings.

I don't think the movie was "all over the place" at all. It had a direction from start to finish and was entertaining throughout. Ending was great.

My 13 y.o. said it was her favorite.

I am unsure what I was suppose to take from the short scene at the very end when Lando is talking to Jannah about where she came from.  Was there some deeper meaning to that?

I still wonder what Finn was going to tell Rey. Did they just forget that part? It's my only complaint about the movie.
Best I can guess is that it had something to do with Finn being force sensitive but JJ left the entire thing dangling after spending part of two scenes on it.  Maybe it got chopped in editing?

They've been setting that up since TFA.
That's the one movie I haven't seen, so that makes sense. It's a super handy trick to have up one's sleeve, along with the Force healing, which I remember from the Knights of the Old Republic games. Made a mess with those berries, though.

New movie series? There's literally an entire galaxy's worth of stories to go into with the Star Wars mythos. They can cover any time period, any set of heroes and villains, long lost Jedi or Sith, and their fights, all kinds of stuff. Whether or not it would be any good depends on the people working, but I'd like to see where the story can go.

Just trying to get in her pants. It's effing Lando. Are you people not fans? ;)

I stand by my original statement.....Good movie.

One or my favorite scenes was Ben pulling the light saber out of thin air, the Knights of Ren being stunned and Ben just shrugs. Lol

I rather enjoyed it.  It brought back the feeling of being 7 years old and being thoroughly entertained by a fun movie.

I was a little disappointed they basically threw TLJ (which I also liked) under the bus, because I thought that movie could have taken the whole thing in a really interesting direction, but I understand the desire to end it the way they did.  It was a fun 2.5 hours.  My kids loved it.

Saw it yesterday and enjoyed it. I think it would have been interesting to see how much larger a role Leia would have had in the story had Carrie Fisher still been alive.

Can anyone explain how people can run around in space without imploding or freezing? I didn't think that made any sense at all.

When was that? The final battle was all in the atmosphere of the Sith planet.

Friking loved it. Be happy if it indeed ends with this.
Glad you liked it.  I did as well.

The only thing ending is the Skywalker series of movies.  But what does that mean?  Who knows. I don’t even think Disney does.

Make no mistake they have Finn, Poe and Rey that can print money for them for years. I’m sure those 3 will have new adventures in the future....they will just be different and not related to these movies in terms of the storylines.

Could definitely see a Poe backstory movie or TV series

Just got back.  Didn’t have big expectations as I didn’t like TLJ.

This movie was fantastic.  I loved it.  Had pacing issues on the front end but Rey and Ben really delivered.  Can’t wait to see it again.

I envy you. I wish I loved it.  Just felt the story was all over the map.  Every star destroyer having a cannon equivalent to the Death Star cheapened the Death Star.  The whole empower arc came out of nowhere and was rushed. Rey is palpatine grand daughter.  What how why?

was just a shotgun or random stuff that didn’t add anything to the overall story and was weird.
I assume you liked Empire?   Vader is Luke’s father?  How? What? Why?

Really enjoyed the end of the Skywalker saga... I was entertained from start to finish... I waited for the Blu-ray release to have a 2nd  watch of the previous two of the trilogy, but I will go see this one again in the theater...

My only nitpick would be Rey going with her adopted Skywalker name at the end.. Would have liked them have her stick with.. "Rey... Just Rey"

Rey should have been a clone made from luke’s severed hand but altered to be female by Palpatine. Then a lot more would make sense instead of palpatine suddenly having family.

Loved it. Seeing it again Monday night. Blew away TLJ in every way. One of the better Star Wars movies across all three trilogies.

1. Empire Strikes Back

2. A New Hope

3. Return of The Jedi

4. Rogue One

5. The Force Awakens

6. The Rise of Skywalker

7. Revenge of The Sith

8. Solo

9. The Phantom Menace

10. Attack of The Clones

The quibble: the rallying of the galaxy did not feel earned. I would have liked to see a galvanization of resistance sentiment. "Doing it my way" would have killed off either Chewie or R2D2 and used them as a martyr of hope for a better tomorrow. Maybe this was Leia's role to fill? Who knows.

The question: At the end of the movie, the very very end, is Rey a Jedi?

My piping hot take is that no, indeed she is not. Nor is she Sith. Instead, Rey Skywalker is the Balance of the Force.
No. She a Jedi. She self identifies as a Skywalker. How dare you mansplain otherwise

This is sure to be unpopular. But as I reflect on the movie, the c g Leia was in many ways preferable to the real life “last jedi” Leia. They softened her features and smoothed her speaking tone to make her more like OG Leia.   Jus an observation.

Didn't watch closely enough on the Leia deal. I just know it worked and seemed like a real person. My teen daughter even mentioned that unprompted after the movie.

 I didn't even know that it was all CGI. Through the whole thing I seriously was thinking that Boy they had a lot of PL stuff in the can and that they did a great job of incorporating it into the movie.  :towelwave: :towelwave:

Isaac and Boyega have stated they have no interest in doing anymore Star Wars shows or movies any time soon.

Oscar Isaac cashing in his chips

Boyega: You ain't gonna Disney + Me

I was pretty sure they shot all the Leia scenes during the last movie.  No?
All the Leia scenes were from TLJ and TWA.  All were cut from those movies but they were re purposed in ROS where her lines were integrated into new scenes.  The digitally changed her look when needed to better match the scene in ROS.

People calling Leia all CGI are incorrect.  They only used CGI minimally for clothing and hair when needed.

besides the young Leia scene, of course.
One thing caught my eye on that scene.  I think they digitally de-aged Luke and Leia too much.  They looked younger than they did in Jedi and yet I think we are to assume the training happened after Jedi.

Actually, my take was that it happened long before any of us realized (to try to explain her recent force powers, perhaps) but I didn’t care what timeline it lands in.

I don't understand your comment.  What time frame do you think the training happened in, if not post Return of the Jedi?

Oh. I don’t know. I don’t dissect Star Wars movies like that.

- Make her look young. Check

- Show that she actually did train to be a Jedi. Check.

I'm satisfied.

In the novels, they have weapons that make the Death Star look very weak by comparison, I think they actually have weapons that make actual stars go nova, wiping out entire systems.
They did, but the Empire also only had one prototype of them In the novels, not an entire massive fleet of them built in secret, crewed by? Who knows where Palpatine got all the materials and crew from with nobody noticing

Very Deus Ex Machina to have a giant fleet show up out of nowhere after no one at all was willing to help them in the last movie. All we get is a few lines of dialogue with Poe and his ex about having faith that people will still show up and fight. Plus how did all those big capital ships get through that secret passage that was so small that the little Corellian Corvette barely got through?

C3PO thing was terrible, they tried to play that as some big emotional scene and him making a sacrifice when they just reboot him and R2 downloads his memories again.

Still a fun movie. The fleet was interesting, saw a lot of the same Mon Cal Cruiser types used in Rogue One among the fleet, some Nebulon B’s, some others I didn’t recognize because it was such a quick shot.

One of the more remarkable directing jobs I've seen as JJ had to somehow salvage the Last Jedi.  A very enjoyable movie to me, better than any of the Ep 1-3 films.

I left pissed off because so much of what was in this should have been in Episode 8 to make it land more emotionally.  In the end, Rey, Finn and Poe had good chemistry but the moment where they're all hugging didn't quite land like it should because it took us too long to get there.  They needed that kind of mission in Episode 8, not pointless detours with Rose Tico or Poe just being portrayed as inept.  But the Rey-lo moments worked for me, and after walking you to the edge on some moments of heartbreak (Chewy and C3PO are gone, just kidding)

Well paced, fun enough action bits (They fly now??).  Ok was Palapatine the ultimate retcon band aid with absolutely no tease of such a thing, sure but JJ didn't have many outs.  In the end, it was a great climax with Rey having all the jedi's in her and at least Palapine was a sliver of a thread through the three trilogies.

I can't see them passing on Episode 10-11-12

damn that's a great idea, play it up as you're sitting at my right hand.  So she has no family but she does have family, she's a sith but also a skywalk

TLJ may be better as a stand alone movie, but it essentially ruined this trilogy. I need to rewatch everything but TLJ just created a lot of story problems and wasted time which really took away from this final film. The trilogy is almost pointless. Awakens set a nice stage and then it was just forgotten.

Prequels at least had a story that made some sense (holes in it, poor dialogue, and some not great execution at times aside ....)

once we can type here without spoilers I have some stuff I wanted to point out or ask.
The subtitle of this could have been "Star Wars Episode IX: Never mind"

Disney has done a fantastic job with the series.  Rogue One was awesome, Force Awakens was awesome, Solo was solid, Mandalorian was awesome.

The Last Jedi is obviously the one that generates a ton of controversy but this is a standard we don’t hold other film franchises to (Avengers age of Ultron anyone )

Not all movies are masterpieces.

But did you see the prequels?  It’s a good thing Disney took over or Hayden Christiansen would still be the last new Star Wars movie you’d have to watch
Not to re-litigate TLJ, but nothing the avengers did fundamentally pivoted against their established mythos like TLJ did,  as I recall.
