anyone else get the sneaking suspicion that tomlin/lebeau are transitioning to a 4-3 possibly as early as 2013? for the past few years we've been clamoring for a NT to groom to take Hampton's spot and instead we draft Ziggy Hood and Heyward who, to me, both seem suited to the 4-3 switch and now with the Spence pick, it got me thinking again that a phase-out of the 3-4 may be on the horizon.
Possible. Tomlin is a Dungy Tampa 2 disciple, when LeBeau retires, he may want to transition to the 4-3.

Hood and Heyward are both best as 3-4 DE's. Maybe they do switch when Lebeau retires. I am hoping that is years off though.

Someone explain "Tattoogate" to me in less than 25 words.
How about a Haiku:Tattoos for Favors,Coach's Silence Echoes LoudFall. No Vest. No RingAs a Steeler Fan first and Buckeye fan second...I do like the pick. If Adams' contrition is sincere and he stays on the straight and narrow, our OL will once again be dominant.

John Clayton has Steelers as one of his three "winners":

3. Pittsburgh Steelers: Sometimes, you can get lucky in drafts. The Steelers were more than lucky. The offensive line has been a problem for years. Age caught up to it several years ago. Injuries have plagued it for the past two seasons. The Steelers needed a break that didn't involve a fractured arm or leg. They got it in the first round when guard David DeCastro fell to them at the No. 24 pick. He's the best guard prospect since Steve Hutchinson. Friday night capped the draft when Mike Adams fell to them in the second round. Getting a potential starting left tackle in the second round is a huge break. Adams had a first-round grade until the league informed teams Adams failed a drug test for marijuana. With Adams at left tackle, Mike Pouncey at center and DeCastro at left guard, the Steelers are assembling one of the better young offensive lines in football. In the third round, they added a young linebacker prospect Mike Tomlin can groom in Sean Spencer. The Steelers always like to stockpile young linebackers and get them ready for the 3-4.

Idiot Boxer has been deemed "barely recognizable and babbling incoherently" by his closest friends. You see, he is at the end of 40 days of fasting and prayer. He hasn't the energy or soundness of mind to post right now. He is mumbling something to the effect of "prayers..answered..have..been....a...God...there..is...arch-angel Michael(Adams)...sent..from heavens..King David(DeCastro)..to throne..restored..Big Ben!!...running for..life..broken bones..no..more..no more!!"I, personally, am more excited about the Mike Adams pick after reading about how he is a lifelong Steeler fan, and took the initiative to meet face-to-face with the Steelers, who basically told him that he was off of their draft board. Something in that meeting was conveyed by Adams (was he in tears perhaps?) to convince Colbert and Tomlin to not only re-instate him to their draft board, but to spend a pretty valuable pick on him. So we have one of two scenarios with Adams: either he duped Colbert and Tomlin (pretty hard to do, don't you think?) and will not come in and work hard and be a bust, or he will keep his word and work his but off, and will help give the Steelers ONE HELLUVA LINE for years to come!! Until I see otherwise, I am believing the latter, and am EXTREMELY EXCITED about the possibilities of Big Ben operating behind potentially one of the best offensive lines in football. :banned:

I really hope the Steelers take a long look at Alfonzo Dennard is he drops to their 4th rounder. The "character issues" that made him drop are completely overblown. Kid was dumb to punch a cop right before the draft (that's an understatement), but he went his entire career at Nebraska without any issues and was a trendy 1st round projection at the start of the year.

John Clayton... DeCastro at left guard,
Decastro is going to play right guard. He has a unique talent of pulling like a beast to his left, which is going to be utilized.Im not saying he cant play left guard, especially in the future, but the coaches made it apparent they want the line at their best spots.

I'm shocked he lasted this long. has carried up to 390 lbs and still had agility. Some coaching and some time on the squat bar and I think he could be a hell of a NT.

Me no think so.

Anyone see the details of the deal?

ETA: never mind, they gave up their 6th to move up 10 spots in the 4th.

Steelers needs being filled very nicely right now.

rest of the draft doesn't even matter. they could pick punters and kickers the rest of the way and it would still be a great draft.

Best Steelers draft I can remember. I see a lot of London Fletcher in Spence, and the other 3 picks were just tremendous value at tremendous need.

Clearly they feel better about the backfield than I do, I'm a little surprised a CB wasn't the choice in the third, but they must not have liked the available prospects. They've really shored up the other need spots.

As many of you in this thread know, I've been pimping Ta'Amu for a while now. The knock on him has been that he doesn't anchor well and plays like a 3-tech but can't rush the passer, making him the ultimate 'tweener. However, he has rare physical ability. He's as big as Poe and may not have Poe's straight-line speed, but has (IMO) better feet and comparable strength.

He dropped in my opinion because he has zero pass rush ability and everyone wants a penetrating DT, but he definitely has the ability to be an effective nose with a year or so of coaching and position-specific workouts.

Brandon Boykin, the CB from Georgia, is still out there. Dropped due to a fractured fibula at the senior Bowl, but the kid has elite speed and quicks. Lacks awareness and great ball skills, but as a 5th rounder would be value added because he could be an elite return man and could easily make a position switch and be a 5th WR. Reminds me of a poor man's Devin Hester.

ESPN live draft coverage, just heard the following from one of the commentators (Dilfer I think): "Steelers just got a STEAL with Ta'amu.. I had him projected as a 2nd rounder..Steelers got him in in 4ht...Hampton just took a paycut to stay with team..Ta'amu has a big body, will do what you ask of him on 1st and 2nd down..not much of a pass rusher..will plug up the middle.."

Schefter: "Bengals are having a strong draft, but so are the Steelers..Ta'amu has some issues with his knees and shoulders, that's why he fell..most had him projected as a 2nd or 3rd rounder.."

Bill Polian: "Ta'amu runs a 5.3 forty, but the Steelers don't need him to be a pass rusher, their scheme will use his abilities to create space for the linebackers..perfect fit for the Steelers..this is why the Steelers are contenders year in and year out.."

Mort: "Steelers getting back to blue collar mentality..Mike Adams..Colbert is more concerned about the person than the player..Colbert won't be convinced Adams is serious until he keeps himself inline for good..Steelers should go after a RB in the 5th.."

Let's keep drinking it up fella's! Most exciting 3-days for me in a while!

Well, never mind, Philly just took him.

Chris Polk still out there if they're looking for a potential eventual starter at RB. Cyrus Gray not a bad player either. Chris rainey if they want an explosive change-of-pace guy for third downs. Can't block to save his life, though.

And there goes Crick to Houston. Damn. That kid's going to be a player for the Texans, great pick.

They could also spend a compensatory pick on Bryce Brown to see if there's anything there. I think he was the #1 ranked RB in the nation in HS - I don't know what happened to him in college. You can't coach 6' 225# with 4.4 speed, though.

Bloomgren recalled a home game last season against the University of Washington -- the school is near DeCastro's hometown of Bellevue -- when his junior guard was largely responsible for Stanford rushing for a school-record 446 yards in a 65-21 victory.

In that game, DeCastro lined across from the Huskies' 348-pound nose tackle, Alameda Ta'amu, considered one of the top nose tackles in the draft. It was the first time Ta'amu, an all-conference tackle, did not register any statistics in a game in his college career.

"He basically went out there and dominated," Bloomgren said of DeCastro. "The guy took himself out of the game. He went to the sidelines and contemplated his life's goals.

"That's kind of what David DeCastro does to most guys."

Then, he added: "The guy wants to finish everything and dominate everything. He comes to work in a bad mood a lot of times.

"He's kind of a sour guy, but he gets the job done and he leads the group. He's a really, really impressive guy. The negatives are so small I really don't know what they are."

Yeah I heard/read Ta'mamu state that against Stanford was the only time in his collegiate career that he didnt have enough strength to do what needed to be done. He was always more concerned with keeping his quickness and agility along with his size, but against DeCastro that it was an issue.

Would love to get Polk in the 5th. Don't care if he looks soft like butter without a shirt, guy can ball.If they wanted to wait on RB and take a Rainey, I hope it's Bobby and not Chris. Chris is a lesser version of Dexter McCluster. No thankee.
