***OFFICIAL*** Steelers 2012 Thread (2 Viewers)

I still think Mendenhall has the most talent of any RB on the roster. Sorry to see him not being utilized AT ALL. Sure he had a case of the fumbles (2) during the Cleveland game, but so did every other RB on the roster. I dunno, I'd give him another chance. At least show him the respect of "letting him audition for other teams".
No auditioning promised - we need our 'best' team on the field. However in regard to your comments - yes he surely looks better and has good speed. But in the game he appears to lack power and go down on first contact up the middle and runs indecisively to the edge which combined w/ our at times suspect line leads to very inconsistent results.Put it this way - do you think he could run well AGAINST us? I don't.He's worth keeping - but not at a high rate.IMO

To have Mendenhall active, that would probably mean Dwyer or an extra O-Lineman would be inactive. Do I have that right?
Yes. Due to all the turmoil on the line the Steelers chose to give a less-than-fully-healthy Willie Colon a hat rather than Mendenhall. I think it is a pretty safe bet they'll do it again this week. However they may face the same situation at WR this week. Assuming all of the WR injuries mentioned by Tomlin are minor and they all are cleared to play I don't think you will see them all dressed. It will be interesting to see who the odd man out will be: Cotchery or Plax cause you can't sit Wallace, can you???

Only one word to describe this Chargers game: GUTLESS. People will say that the Browns game was the absolute worst but at least they are a tough young team that is really trying but still have a while to go. The Chargers have pretty much much quit on Norv Turner and Phillip Rivers is in complete don't give a #### mode and they still dominated the Steelers.

After having such a great performance by the Ravens in a must win game, how can you completely put on this lazy effort when you are fighting your playoff life.

It is bad enough having to root for the Redskins and Cowboys the two team I hate the most to help my team and you put that effort out there. Come the #### on :wall: :wall:

I guess the talk about repeating the 2005 season can come to an end now. What a horrible performance by the Steelers. They were totally dominated by the Chargers in all phases of the game in the first half. Then they star the 2nd half by letting the Chargers bleed another 10 minutes off the clock and score a TD... WTF? This Steelers team is all about inopportune penalties and turnover (both were on display today). We can hope/wish it was different, but that is the story of this year's team.

And WTF is up with Tomlin not going for two when you are down by 18 after scoring a TD? And he did it TWICE!?!?!?!? I assumed the first time was because there was a lot of time left in the 3rd quarter (still stupid, but whatever), but the 2nd time was inexcusable. Are not trying to give your team the best chance to win the game?

I was a believer after the Baltimore win, but this is a one-and-done playoff team if they can even make the playoffs.

man, i hate this team. the blocking sucks, wallace is a sleep-walking diva, the special teams are pitiful, ike taylor can't ever seem to catch a ball, the penalties are endless, clock management is and has always been poor, overall coaching is questionable at best, totally inept at worst. to waste these incredible defensive performances with bush-league play in all other phases sickens me. this team needs an enema.

Yet another reason that I think this falls at the feet of Tomlin. Too many games against supposedly inferior competition where it looked like they just weren't ready to play. Inexcusable. Will look forward to next year but I'm not sure why.

1/4 of Oakland, Tennessee, and Cleveland's combined wins (12-27) are at the Steelers expense. Horrible.

I can't disagree with any of this -- Steelers sucked in all phases yesterday. It is unbelievable that we are still in contention for a wild-card at this point. Oh well, looks like I'll be saving $$$ on playoff tickets this year.

Not that I necessarily disagree with you but I am curious why you had nothing to say last week?

i was happy that the team won last week but still not a fan of the way they're playing the game. truly, i had nothing new to say--nice win but still the fundamentals are still weak. i felt best for charlie who played with a great deal of heart.

Relax everyone. This team's been up and down all year.

To make the playoffs, we need to beat Cincinnati in 2 weeks in Heinz Field and EITHER get a win at Dallas or a win over the Browns at home in the season finale. What happens from there, who knows.

At this point, getting into the playoffs is all they need to focus on, not whether they're going to be one-and-done. Anything can happen in a single game. At this juncture, there's a decent chance the Steelers would be playing Denver or Baltimore in round 1 - one team we just beat on the road with Batch starting, the other we already played and were ahead in the 4th quarter. Neither game would carry more than a 4 or 5 point line.

I have no worries about going into the postseason as an underdog that the national media give little chance of going to a Super Bowl.

True but that was a pretty depressing loss. In all honesty I think the Browns are the best team in the division right now.

I love the relative optimism and agree with the premise.Just make the playoffs. That is all that matters. Please tho, for the love of all that is holy, learn from the mistakes that have been made. Please stop with the horrific mindless drive killing penalties. Please stop with the game altering RZ turnovers. Please stop with the RB up Ramon Foster's (or whoever the current iteration of our RG may be)keister as the sole run play in the book.I am laying no blame, but these issues have been a constant during the last 6-7 years. This type of consistency shouldn't be a team's trademark. Also, please either stay the hell or get the hell healthy...it's a game of attrition but...damn.But, most of all, just make the playoffs.

I hear Colon is done for the year - does this mean Legursky or DeCastro? I missed the game yesterday (only the 4th game I haven't seen in the last 15-20 years) and didn't see how he got hurt or when, or who replaced him.

He was a huge(no pun intended) mistake. For all the good he does, Colbert blows it with these G contracts regularly it seems...Simmons, Kemo, and now Colon.Even tho they eat about 6 mil, he simply cannot be brought back in 2013.3/3 in IR's the last three seasons and may actually help the team more from that spot.Guessing it's Pouncey to LG, Legs at C, and Foster continues at RG.

I agree this is the likely personnel -- I am just wondering what is up with DeCastro? If he can't start over Legursky then why not just IR him and free up the roster spot?

I don't know why there seems to be so much confidence in this team still making the playoffs. They have Dallas, Cinci, and Cleveland left. What has people seen this year that would make them think they can win 1, let alone 2 or 3 of these games????

I don't see how anyone can have confidence but none of those teams are all that good either and 2 of the games are at home. As bad as they played yesterday the loss really didn't worsen their chances much. I wouldn't bet a nickle on this team but they still control their own playoff destiny, as crazy as that is.

A win over the Giants, a dismantling of what has proven to be a pretty good Redskins team, a win in Baltimore with Batch QBing, a win in Cincinnati, a narrow loss to Cleveland despite 8 turnovers....I think they have every bit as good a chance of winning all 3 as they do of losing 2 out of 3.

Your last sentence says it all. Doesn't inspire much confidence does it?

Personally, I don't have any confidence at all.But I'm still a fan so...hope is about all that's left.Confidence? Nada.

I think their recent sucess (last 15 or so years) has made us all a bit spoiled and a bit optimistic that they can get it done this year. Honestly, with the remaining schedule, I expect they will make it.

Right. Point being, you're really not sure on any given week which team you're going to get. However, they're 3-0 against the NFC East thus far, they beat Cincinnati in Cincy, and they would have beaten Cleveland in Cleveland even without Roethlisberger if not for a historic # of fumbles. So, I think it's not unreasonable to think they can win 2 or 3 of these games - they've already shown they match up well with Cincinnati and Cleveland, and Dallas is just as streaky and unpredictable as Pittsburgh. I'm just not ready to throw in the towel based on this one game. Oakland moved the ball up and down the field at will against the Steelers in that game and after that, they tightened the screws and were excellent the next handful of games coming off of that loss.

They only need 2 wins, provided one is against Cincinnati. I'm saying I think they'll get two of three and it's at least as likely they go 3-0 over these three as 1-2. Even if they lose in Dallas, they can get the playoffs with wins in their last two games, and I think they get there.

Pretty quiet in here.

Looks like Keenan Lewis and LaMarr Woodley will be playing this week, which is a rare bit of good news from the injury front. The Dallas o-line is a weakness and hopefully LeBeau will figure out a way to get some pressure on Romo who is prone to mistakes when under duress.

I am really anxious to see how DeCastro fares in his first start.

Exactly why their chances of winning the SB are about 1%, especially if they end up having to play @DEN week 1 of the playoffs.I doubt they lose all 3, but they might as well so they get a better draft pick. Same as I felt last year, except I think we are worse/not as healthy and the top of the AFC is better (but still not as good as the NFC playoff teams this year).

Most of all Im just hoping for no more major injuries this year

What about Allen? Not anxious, but certainly interested to see how DeCastro looks.

Is Wallace still in rotation for starting snaps, or is he expected to get his 'normal' number of plays after Ben/last week?

I am close to being onboard with the poster talking about hating this team. Unlikable, don't block, don't tackle, no ball security, dumb decisions, penalties, and clock management. Injuries are obviously huge factors, but really makes me worried for future seasons.

So basically the only purpose to watch the bengals game next is to figure out if there is a reason to watch the NFL on December 30th. Just ####### great.

If we have learned anything from this year it is how important Hines Ward was. I thought maybe Cotchery could provide some of that leadership to the young studs at receivers. But this year Wallace has became a selfish diva and Antonio Brown has had way too many brain farts to count.

lots of dumb going around today but antonio brown earned the game ball in that regard. what an impressive display of ineptitude from him.

Am I in the Ravens thread? I feel your pain, Stillers fans. The Ravens have all of the same problems the Steelers do. Yeah, they backed into a playoff spot but they're going to be an easy out unless they can fix their multitude of problems.

Losing because the other team is better and/or because of injuries I can handle. Losing due to lack of preparation, lack of determination, lack of heart ... Killing me this year. It is 2009 all over again for gods sake.

There is a rumor going around the internet that Woodley (you know that guy with # 56) actually played yesterday. Can anyone confirm this?

:bag:

This season is a wrap fellas. Even if they make the wildcard they will get waxed in their first game. I can't remember a Steeler team that makes me  every week as they have this year.

I've been watching the defensive line alot the past 4 or 5 games, paying closer attention than usual. I think they are the problem. They are not doing what they need to do to get the LB's open so THEY can do what they need to. In this defense, that is exactly what needs to be done. Been that way for years. This D line as a group is under performing, big time. Needs a complete overhaul. LB's getting a bad rap for alot of the miseries, and I think alot of it is undue. The secondary (starters) played great (during the course of the year)in spite of this (no QB pressure) and should be commended. Only when the starters became injured and the backups went in, did we see just how good the starters really have been this year. (regarding the secondary)

Why isn't Plaxico playing? Give him a chance. At this point, I don't care whose playing time it cuts into.

Not sure what to think of Butler. Sometimes his punts are good, other times they are horrid. Not sold on him yet.

While the coaches can and should be held accountable, the players still need to make the plays that they are capable of and being paid mucho dollars to do so. Too many boneheaded mistakes by many of the core guys. That said, some of the decisions the coaching staff makes on a weekly basis leaves me scratching my head, in regards to play calling and time management.

Stick a fork in them, they are done.

Penalties. Red zone TO's. Mental mistakes. FG's instead of TD's.

Lack of fundamentals. Week in, week out. For years.

Rinse and repeat.

Every team in the NFL is full of damn fine players. They are tough enough to beat without the weekly mind numbing mistakes this team inflicts on itself.

Even in winning, the goal seems to be to make it as hard as possible.

I don't get it. It seems as if most of the issues are correctable...yet they are never corrected. I am beginning to think some of the repeat offenders are just flat out dumb in terms of football IQ.

Makes for a maddeningly inconsistent team. Entertaining as hell to root for at...least as it's never boring...but damn, I don't need the stress some weekends.

Amazing that two home wins still gets us in. Given the above, I'll take just having that opportunity.

Tighten things up and make the playoffs! Damn it!

Yes the Steelers still control their own destiny. They usually play well against the Bengals and Browns so I see their chances of winning out at about 40%. Just amazing how many bad teams there are in the AFC

While Brown did not have his nicest game yesterday, I give him an incomplete for this year as he was hurt for too much of it.

i don't understand giving Brown a free pass on yesterday due to past injuries. this is about what's going on between his ears. i recall a media piece on bill belicheck where he insisted that his players know what to do on the field in various circumstances. he reiterated that they need to be ready for anything, to anticipate, and to think like a coach themselves. i feel like the steelers players are coached to play freely, do their one job and (hopefully) do it well, but it doesn't look like they are encouraged to think for themselves. brown, to me, seems like the poster child for this line of reasoning. obvously, it's not working this year.
