***Official Super Bowl LII Thread*** - Eagles vs Patriots (1 Viewer)

After reading this thread, I’m just hoping the Pats don’t get embarrassed by the mighty Eagles. I can’t believe Vegas has them favored, man are those guys idiots.
I don't think any Eagles fans are saying they should be favored, let alone that they will dominate.  They're saying this Eagles team has a chance.  They've exceeded expectations all season long, and have really come together as a team.  of course, Bellicheck and Brady are going to be favored, and rightfully so.  The experience and success they have on their side is insane.  But when "worst Super Bowl team ever" type stuff gets thrown out there without any justification, yea, you're gonna get people's hackles up.

Belichick probably cant wait to get into Foles head and confuse the hell out of him with back of the playbook defensive schemes hes never seen before.  Pats win like 31-14

Obviously, but considering 90% of the Eagles fans are part of the lower class I don't think many will be able to afford the cost of a ticket and trip to Minnesota.
i wonder if this thread would be such a dumpster if it was Vikings-Jags. hard to have any grownup conversations in here  :kicksrock:

Bortles shred that D in Foxboro.

I'm not worried about Philly scoring....I'm worried about Philly not being able to stop the dink and dunk.

Just patiently waiting for people to stop pretending the NFC is the better conference.
Not necessarily better at the top, but much much deeper. After the Pats, Steelers, and Jags, the AFC drops to all average teams. The Eagles, Vikings, Saints, Rams, Falcons, Panthers, Seahawks, and Packers (with Rodgers) are all better than the 4th best AFC team.

IIRC, NFC v. AFC record this year wasn't even close.

What happened to the Eagles the last time they played a great QB and offense on the road without Wentz? That's right, they haven't. This team has struggled all season on the road against good teams regardless. Meanwhile the Patriots have been one of the best road teams in the NFL over the past 2 seasons.
You're right, they haven't. Foles hasn't started many games, and I'm not going to apologize for us getting home field advantage throughout the playoffs.Who's arguing that? And yes, New England has been great for a long time. Not really sure what point you're trying to make

:lmao:   The best part of having these kinds of seasons is to watch the bitter fans of terrible teams.

Get well soon buddy.

Must suck to see Nick Foles in the Super Bowl when your QB is the highest paid player in the entire league and he's never even sniffed the NFC championship game.  :(

Maybe the Eagles would trade him to you Strafford and a first round pick.

It's made you an ugly bitter little man.  Hop upon the Philly train buddy. Best young QB in the game and quality cast of players. You'd finally see what it's like to follow a team that isn't a joke.

Awww, that hurts me so.   Just noticed that you have a mancrush on Mike Trout (which is kinda weird). But he's a huge Eagles fan and would be very disappointed in your bitterness and jealousy.

You're talking super bowl strategy with a Detroit Lions fan. Just so you're aware.

We welcome all fans to watch. It's just the bitterness that makes us feel bad for you. :(

Maybe you should write the league office and suggest a tournament of past Super Bowl teams. Since you seem hung up on something irrelevant. Let us know how they respond.

Foles just beat the best defense in football 38-7 and this Stafford fan is talking smack.  :lmao:   You can't make this stuff up.

That might stand up if it was 17-14. Besides, it was 50 degrees with no wind.

Back to the drawing board.  Do better next time.
Grown up conversation you say ?

Lol. I love when people start off as though they want to discuss football and then you counter their argument and they become a 14 year old.

As I touched upon earlier, RE: QB First Starts vs. NE . . .

I didn't have time to look up all the results from QB's in their first start against NE / BB / TB since 2001. So I looked up the existing crop of rostered NFL QBs only.

They went a combined 8-35 (.186). Given that the Pats are typically winning at a 75-78% clip, that is slightly worse. The results are pretty much what I expected: guys on decent teams tended to do better.

Since people will ask, the 8 players that won: Roethlisberger, Dalton, ASmith, Osweiler, Brees, Newton, Wilson, and the legendary Colt McCoy, who somehow managed to blow out the Pats 34-14 while on the Browns. Talk about on any given Sunday.

In can be argued that the Eagles have the best defensive and offensive lines in the league. It’s football 101. Let’s see what happens.

And the corpse of Eli Manning threw for over 400 yds and 3 TDs against the Eagles a few weeks ago..
If by few weeks ago, you mean a month and a half ago, sure. Eagles still won that game btw thanks to Foles throwing 4 TDs.

I could cherry pick the equally long ago game where Jay Cutler lit up that vaunted Pat's defense for 3 TDs and Kenyon Drake ran all over them. But we know that's not why we're here.

Keep on trolling.

Nick Foles is the only QB in NFL history with 100+ passer rating in each of his 1st 3 career playoff games.

Brady couldn’t do that. QB advantage clearly with the Eagles.

I think the Minny win was flukey, Minny TO's really shifted momentum.   Beating the Falcons doesn't impress me...one of the softest teams in football.   I'm no Stafford honk but give him the Eagles supporting cast and he could pull off a win

Not a Stafford fan Chief.  He's a 2nd tier QB at best
Tell us about the Patriots’ deficiencies.

Who covers Gronk on the go route after shifted wide from the 12 formation?

disappointed that we only have a week and a half more of this quality banter.
:lmao:  hoping the back and forth slows and we can get some good game dissection.

for me as an Eagles fan, i am thinking of our D vs your O.  Gronk will get some catches, but i think he will be covered tight. Our DL will most likely dominate the trenches, and i don't know if Amendola can constantly beat Darby or Mills.

What does scare the crap out of me are passes the RBs, either White, Lewis or Burkhead, and watching them tear up our LBs and constantly get 1st downs. i am not sure what the Eagles D can do to slow that down, and if Pats win i expect another game like that from White or one of those other jerks (I absolutely love  both Burkhead and Lewis so hard to root against either) will just get 10+ catches

This is what I mean about playing with house money. How many Eagles fans thought our season was over when Wentz went down for the year? (I'll raise my hand, for sure).  Oh sure, we'd make the playoffs. Wentz clinched that part. But we saw the Packers without Rodgers. And the Cowboys when Romo was lost for the year early 3 seasons ago.  It suddenly became a 'wait till next year'.  Most didn't dream of a playoff win. Let alone two. And no one could have predicted blowing out such a complete team like Minnesota.  Unless the Eagles get manhandled 45-6 or something, there is no possible bad outcome of the game as for the future of this team. If they lose 24-17 to the best QB and team in league history with a backup MLB, LT, and QB? So what.

I hope the players play with the same level of no-fux-given as I have. Just relax and have fun. This isn't even the varsity.
I guess but I hate this whole "house money" concept.  The Eagles are in the frigging super bowl.  The only way this is a good outcome is if you guys win it.  It doesn't matter what the circumstances are.  Bottom line - you need one more win to be the champions and it's going to hurt like hell if that doesn't happen.  Just my opinion.

agreed, i can't stand this "house money" that the sports media seems to be cooking here in Philly. Takes away from the team, Eagles team faced more then their fair share of adversity and have overcome. Give them credit, and let them see it through. it is like portions of the fan-base are scared to taste success. if they win, they earned it against one of the best dynasties ever in the NFL (just threw up in my mouth typing that).

Need to stop being scared to fail, grab the bull by the horns and drive that mother f'er over Brady and the rest of that team

It's a result of this "I don't want to be heartbroken" mentality in this town that's been forged over the last 40 years of futility. Everyone is trying to guard themselves as if they won't be hurt if we lose. It will suck if we lose. It will suck supremely. Yea it's great we got here. Totally unexpected. Why not finish it though. That'd be nice.

yeah i shook that after the Falcons win, believe me we all know the vulnerability. But this is the last step, balls to the wall. We need more of these (gotta skip ahead to 3 minutes):

ETA: and the Pats better not try to steal any of this. Pansies in Boston threw F'n tea into the water. OOOOOHHHHHHH!!!!  Sorry "Bro's" you guys can't have this one.

I’m guessing history wasn’t Kyle’s stongest subject.

Between this, Gronk, and the short crossing patterns to the WRs I believe the Eagles will have a difficult time stopping the Pats O.

Something tells me we won’t be seeing a whole lot of Najeh Goode on game day. I think they roll mostly with nickel and dime packages to limit his time on the field and flood the short zone defending against those passes. One thing I know is Jim Schwartz won’t get beat over and over by the screen passes.

This is all true but I'll say that there is no outcome that would truly make me sour like the '02 season. That team was supposed to win it all and failed miserably at home as heavy, historical favorites. It was also the beginning of genuine disdain on some levels for Reid and McNabb by many fans. I'll never forget this old timer standing behind me chanting incessantly "run the ball, run the ball" over and over the entire second half. Everyone either left the Vet or turnes their TVs off devastated.

This team on the other hand God forbid--could get blown out and though I'd be bummed, I would not be crushed. I'd walk away from this season an extremely happy fan. This team is a step or more above the '93 Phillies who came out of nowhere and almost won the Series. It sucked that they didn't but I still look on that season as special.

Also, outside of Dawk, this team is far, far more lovable that the Reid/McNabb teams.

So yeah, I want it all and I believe they WILL WIN! But if not, I'll be cool. Just my $.02.

OK, were back on track in here. Thank you.

As a Pats fan, I'm expecting the same although Amendola is tough to cover by anyone. At least on those short crossing routes & underneath stuff.

PHI has seen how to slow down Brady ... man defense causes Brady to hold the ball just a bit longer. Gives the pass rush an extra tick or two to get there.

NE doesn't really have that BIG WR to worry about in man defense. Gronk could be that guy but I'm sure they will limit him with double team of LB & S.

What concerns me is PHI interior DL. Cox and company are the key. If they can push the pocket from the middle, Brady is not able to step up into it like he does.

... and Brady isn't the QB to be "rolling out" like a Russell Wilson / Aaron Rodgers.

This is how I feel. Yes I've used the term playing with house money. But that surely is not to say that I am not 100% heart and soul wanting to win this game. It is not lost on me that we have never won a Superbowl and these chances are very few and far between. But the reason a loss wouldn't be devastating to me is simply because I realize that this team is just scratching the surface and we are playing with our backup quarterback. If Brett Hundley had led the Packers to this game, I'm sure Green Bay fans would feel the same way. This is surprising and an awesome feeling and this isn't even our best team.

NE also has a HUGE edge in kicker.  If it comes down to a critical FG I'd much rather have Gostkowski than (don't even know the kids name)
