The Philadelphia Eagles are the most popular team on FBGs - why? (1 Viewer)

Status
Not open for further replies.
The Eagles have been a top-discussed franchise on FBG as long as I can remember, 20 years or so now.
I dont remember this. Not doubting you, but my notebook has the Patriots and Chargers (LT2) as most talked about. That and Brett Favre is not a HOFer
Oh, what do I know for sure? Nothing. I've never kept a FBG notebook. I would place more accuracy on your statement as upon reflection I may only be using a very limited amount of brain memory cells.
Notebook?
Right?
Wut?
I am a 3-digiter …

Maybe we should start a Philadelphia Eagles team thread for non Philadelphia Eagles' fans
I anyways thought the team threads here were for the team, not just the fans.
In the years I’ve been here guys pop in the cowboys thread sometimes and make of Jerry, Dak, their playoff drought etc and you know how many cowboys fans flip out? Call posters “haters”? “Troll”? Suggest these posters get ignored? Zero

Why do you think that is?
You seem to be suggesting it is because the Eagles fans are thin skinned or something. I don’t buy that. Eagles fans very much exhibit the “no one likes us we don’t care” mentality.
In the team thread, there is a lot of pointless back and forth between a few posters that has clearly become personal at this point. I’m not assigning blame, but it does muck up the thread and makes it pretty unreadable.
I’d wager that most folks in that thread would enjoy meaningful discourse with fans of another team (Cowboys included) and would tolerate the occasional ribbing.

Whenever I think of the Eagles, the first thing that pops in my head:

Super Bowl XV: The Raiders defeated the Eagles by the score of 27–10, becoming the first wild card playoff team to win a Super Bowl.

That’s all I got and, yes, I know I’m pointing at a 45 year old score board. But that’s all I got.

Happy for the recent success of your long suffering franchise.
That's odd considering the Eagles are one of the top5 or so most successful teams since 2000, with 3 Super Bowl and at least 6 NFC championship game appearances. The success isn't limited to just the last few years

Yep. Mostly agree.
There are a couple of people who pop in frequently and add little though, who generally put most of their effort not into talking about football, but trying to get under the skin of other posters. We know who they are

Therein lies the problem, there a bunch of non-Eagles fans posters who simply want to jump into an Eagles thread just to take pot-shots and not have serious, honest discussion. A threads like these are revelations because it keeps their garbage mostly out of the "Official" thread.

lol, this officiating crew trying their hardest for NE to win this game
New year. Same game thread
you mean you coming in here anytime Eagles are close to losing?
Since you asked, no

I meant eagles fans whining about the officials
Your team is gonna lose tonight.
Did you play the Giants ml ?
I was talking about the Dodgers.

And srsly, who roots for the Cowboys AND the Dodgers? That’s like a double-dip on Larouche-y fandom.

Enjoy the win tonite, team looks solid. They’ll come crashing back to Earth next week.

I guess this will have to be posted in every Eagles thread the Cowboy trolls enter:

The Dallas Cowboys Cycle

1. Season starts
2. Beat up on bad teams --> We are here, moving to #3 shortly
3. Fans get delusional
4. "We dem boyz, this is our year"
5. Choke in the playoffs
Discussion

OBJ visiting Dallas today. On one hand, he's 30 years-old and coming off a major injury. On the other, with Cooper gone Dallas doesn't currently have a legit #1 stud WR so if OBJ is close to his top form it makes them a better team we might have to play in the playoffs.
I hope it happens. They are going to bend over backward for headlines and to make him happy and its going to throw the team off. Just watch. I like how we are just brushing past the fact he tore his ACL just 10 months ago. I haven't seen any workout tapes/rehab/anything on that end. Seems like a hedge.
I give myself a 9.5/10 here. Still hoping they sign him lol.
As I said in the OBJ thread, the whole courtship has served its purpose. Jerry got his face on camera (many times) and the Cowboys were in the news for this just as much as for their on-field play (which should be enough).

TBH, I'm really sick of hearing about the Cowboys this season. Every 3rd post on my FB is Cowboys related. Turn on any NFL show and all I hear about is Cowboys. You might think they actually won something recently (or you know, have the best record in the league).

Cowboys Cycle:

"Season starts" THEN "Beat up on bad teams" THEN "Fans get delusional" THEN "We dem boys this is our year" [We are here] THEN "Choke in Playoffs" THEN "Season starts"
for real

Hey, let's talk about semi-fans. Seriously, though. I’ve got two favorite teams my hometown Pittsburgh Steelers and my away team, the Dallas Cowboys. My Cowboys loyalty mostly comes from Tony Dorsett, but these days, I can hardly sit through a Dallas game. Jerry’s antics, plus Dak being way overrated, make it tough to watch. Lately, I’ve been thinking about swapping the Cowboys for the Eagles instead.

I liked the movie Invincible.
I prefer The Replacements
I’ll call your Replacements and raise you Remember the Titans.

Remember the Titans sucks.
What was it about that movie that drove you to that conclusion?

That it is supposed to be based on a true story, but the only thing the movie and the actual story have in common is that some kids played high school football.

The rest is made up crap that didn't happen or things that happened, but not when they say it happened.

How can this be ! As a Cowboys fan of the 70s, I hate the Steelers almost as much as I do the teams in the NFC East .

Tony Dorsett played at Hopewell HS here in Pittsburgh. Then went to Pitt and won the Heisman Trophy. Yes, I got a lot of grief back then lol

before your 2017 SB victory, you never won the big one. Had great teams. Great players. Came close. But couldn’t win it all.

That’s all I meant by long suffering. Guess I should’ve qualified it with:
Happy for the recent success SINCE 2017 of your long suffering franchise.

I felt what you were putting down. In a lot of ways us Eagles fans are like the dog that caught the car. Now what? I think in many ways, in part due to media/rivals poo-pooing on any success we have, it will still make us "suffering" lol

I will say though this time definitely feels different. A lot of ways 2017 was obviously very flukey - and afterward, bc we never had done it before, the GM made some errors - mainly trying to keep the vet gang together), but this time, we let a lot of guys walk, we have tons of draft picks, and the best part is the way we won and who we beat really put a stamp on this team as a "legit" Super Bowl team that a lof of people can credibly say has a real shot to winning again this year.

Oh, I hear you. I have always been an Eagles fan first but even as a kid I had a secondary favorite team. That was the Raiders. When the Eagles lost SBXV to the Raiders I found it difficult to root for them again. Not a hater, just not enthused anymore. My least favorite team remains any other team in the NFC East, with a slight lean towards Texas. I do appreciate the fact that they each have won multiple SB's prior to our first and I commend them all. I have a healthy respect for each of those franchises. Each NFC East franchise and their respective fans have endured lengthy periods of rough stretches. I feel bad for most Cowboys fans currently. Their suffering probably will not end until Jeruh steps down/passes away. Unfortunately, it could be some time before either happens.

I agree with some others here, this thread is largely useless but, I do appreciate the comments from fans of other teams. Thanks!

Loved TD when he played .

I also dislike the 49ers for similar reasons to the Steelers.

As a kid, I used to be a fan of the Colts as well as the Cowboys, until they moved out of Baltimore. The Cowboys almost lost me when Tom Landry was forced out. It took a few years to get over that.

My Dad was a fan and the way Irsay moved the Colts, like there was no chance he was staying a fan, thankfully for him, the Ravens came to town and softened that a little, winning a couple Super Bowls helped as well.

That was the JOKE…and the truth. When I think of the Eagles, the FIRST a thing I think of as a Raiders fan is beating them in the Super Bowl.
Simple as that.
(Does that seem odd? Same with the Vikings and Redskins/Commanders. Those are the highest of high points for Raiders fans)

Then…continuing the joke…I say how sad it is that my fond raiders memories are decades old.

Come on, @renesauz ….you can get my light hearted banter AND my congrats to you and Eagles fans for having an amazing team and a great last-decade run. Just say “thanks for the kind words” and move along. ;)

Maybe we should start a Philadelphia Eagles team thread for non Philadelphia Eagles' fans
I anyways thought the team threads here were for the team, not just the fans.

Because those poster also make good postings about football and aren't glued to their keyboard to obsessively talk about how bad their fans are. Big difference.

For sure. Bankerguy and Manster post in the Eagles thread and actually talk about the sport, the team, have insights on football etc. It's the one or two that simply can't help themselves obsessing over the fans and putting the fans down, that are the issue. ;)

This one is a bit layered, so its kind of a tongue in cheek comment since a few of the posters that are Cowboys fans often show up in our threads under the guise of "talking football" just to tell us how bad of a fan we are, or how punchable Nick Sirianni's face is, etc.

Aka :sarcasm:

I was 1 year old. Now back to this fantasy relevant thread. Film at 11.

Fans understandably get a little more vocal when their team is doing well. In recent seasons, that's been Philly and KC.

I still recall those fun 15 minutes when Cardinals fans were prevalent because they went to the Super Bowl. Then, like their team and Keyser Soze, they were gone...

I think of Harold Carmichael, Wilbert Montgomery, Ron Jaworski, and Harold Jackson. But then again I'm old.
With the exception of Jackson, I saw all of them live including the Jan ‘81 NFCCG at the Vet. It was a cold day. Fascinating how the Coyboys franchise disintegrated and needed rescued after that defeat.

I don’t recall Colts fans doing that after beating the Bears in the Super Bowl. In fact, the Colts team thread is seldom used. I tried, but gave up. It gets lonely here.

Add another to your streak. You almost made it through a day without an eagles fan post! So close. Maybe tomorrow.

Middle school? 12 year-olds would laugh at how juvenile these discussions go. They spill into every thread and it's the same 10-12 posters time after time. It spills into game day threads, even if it's the Saints vs the Raiders. It's like the PSF before that got shut down - same posters over and over polluting every thread they ooze into across forums with "grudges". It gets really old and I can't believe the moderators don't see it.

I still recall those fun 15 minutes when Cardinals fans were prevalent because they went to the Super Bowl. Then, like their team and Keyser Soze, they were gone...
But their SB gave us one of the most amazing sports moments in SB history.

We try our best to keep these on the right track.

Not sure what you mean there. The moderator saw it and asked them to be more cool.

Joe, you and your moderators run your board better than I ever could. You hear me?

This thread's destiny was set up to go one way from the original post.
