***Official Super Bowl LII Thread*** - Eagles vs Patriots (1 Viewer)

Let's be real here.  If Foles were the one that got alligator arms and choked instead of one of the clutchest players in NFL history, we'd all be sitting here lauding how daring the Pats were to run that play and how stupid the Eagles were to try and copy it instead of just running Blount up the middle twice on 3rd and goal at the 1.

:D  lot to catch up on in this thread but I’m thinking there will be some fun ones like this
Lol.  I could have a field day going back and dragging out some of Icon's posts. But I won't be 'that guy'.

I'm just enjoying the fact that we are the best football team in the world and have a ring and have arrived about two years ahead of schedule. Oh, and that Cowboysfan is still sad and lurking. I would pay money to see his expression as the hail mary fell to the ground.  :lmao:

In every post I made I said:
• These are both great teams and deserve to be there. It's anyones game
• My money was on Eagles +4.5
• Win or Lose, this dynasty run by the Patriots has been amazing to be a part of

Then again, I realize you've proven to be pretty delusional, so I'm not surprised this is lost on you.

Don't waste your time. He's.....different

FWIW, PFF disagrees. While an amazing game, Brady missed some easy ones and had a defender drop an easy INT that hit him in the hands that would have sealed the game before the hail mary attempt. I also don't think you should penalize Foles too much for that interception that Jeffrey flipped up in the air and the other Pats defender caught.

Congrats to the Eagles and their fans, I would like to say I was shocked by the pats defensive "performance" last night but surprised and disappointed would be more accurate. The NE lack of talent on defense really showed up last night and combined with the outstanding performance by the eagles offense it was too much. The entire Philly offense and special teams played an outstanding game and you gotta give credit where credit is due. Congrats!

Bro...if my aunt had nuts, she'd be my uncle.  It happened.

Although Brady put up the yards and willed his team to one play from winning back to back.....I thought he was a tiny bit off last night.

From PFF:

TOP 5 GRADES:

Edge Trey Flowers, 88.2 overall grade

CB Stephon Gilmore, 87.5 overall grade

TE Rob Gronkowski, 84.3 overall grade

CB Eric Rowe, 82.6 overall grade

QB Tom Brady, 79.6 overall grade

This whole manufactured melodrama about the Butler benching is an insult to Nick Foles

Dude dropped dimes all night.  I'm talking at least 8 perfectly thrown indefensible passes where you watch and say damn that was a beautiful pass.

The real truth based on the game my eyes witnessed was pitiful lack of tackling / yards after contact.  As Rodney Harrison pointed out after the game, the team needs an infusion of athletes on the defensive side of the ball.  Some of us remember the losses at defensive end that occurred in off-season and pre-season, and aren't going to sign off on the manufactured narrative that BB cost the game benching Butler.  21 is not the second coming, and if he got benched he deserved it, notwithstanding Brandon Browner's tweets on the subject.

Not that the post game crowd basking in the glory of NE's loss are going to sign off on these truths, but whatever brah.

Brady is no longer a football player, he's a celebrity who plays football. It's all about him. I doubt he consciously 'blew off Foles', just simply knew the game was over and his team lost so he ran off thinking of only himself. Just didn't give Foles, or anyone else, a thought. That's Tom being Tom.
That’s Tom being a whiny ######## if true.

Its amazing what foles accomplished in the super bowl.  belichick bet that foles would make mistakes and so he dared foles to beat him.  It was a perfectly sound game plan. Instead foles played a perfect game (and the patriots STILL almost won).  I mean you cant say enough about foles and how he handled the pressure to playing in the super bowl vs tom brady and bill belichick.  He had the game of his life.  If they met again, foles would come back down to earth and the patriots would win pretty easily.  But you get one game and what a game foles had.

Congrats @Insein

You are literally the only Eagles fan I am happy for. Love you GB. Soak it up to the fullest, they are next to impossible to win and the victory party is very short.

I mean it, by week 3 of next year nobody gives a ####. Talk all the smack and soak it all in to it’s fullest.
What?! No love for me?!  :D

Nobody may care about the Eagles winning the Super Bowl in week 3 next year but you can't take that Super Bowl win away from them. Kind of like how the Cowboys haven't been relevant for 22 years but you can't take their 5 Super Bowl wins away from them.

ehh maybe. Foles played the #1 defense 2 weeks before that and didn't look to shabby. how many good games does he need to have where maybe it isn't a total fluke? i don't know myself, but i think his first 2-3 games where everyone freaked out were much more a QB coming in with almost no reps and diving right in. took some time to get acclimated

Only if Foles goes to Cleveland for 2 first rounders and leads the Browns to a Super Bowl will some people be convinced.

It is a bad time to be a fan of a team whose coach doesn't get it.

These teams are playing a different game than those old school dinosaurs.

Pats have been playing it for years, a few other teams are catching up....just none in the AFC it seems.

I think that that is the key.  The Eagles, (IMO) are more like the Patriots than any other team in the NFL.*

* And I think they actually have an advantage over the next couple of years because their FA losses are going to be minimal; Wentz should/will improve while you have expect a regression of some sort from Brady and they have a nice young or coming into their prime core on D; the average age of their expected CBs next year is Jones 22/ MIlls 24/Darby 25/ Rasoul Douglas 25......Cox is 27. Jernigan 25. Even their O-line has some nice youth...with Johnson 27 and Big V 24.

IIRC....Bradham and Trey Burton are their only notable FAs this year.

ETA:  And what I'm hoping is, that like those Pats teams earlier.....the Eagles get veterans (Chris Long like) who want to play; be it a reduced role....just for the chance to win a Super Bowl.

The oddest part in all of this is that Doug Pederson ended up being what we thought we had in Chip Kelly.

The turn our team has made over the past 4 years has been so wild.

Well if the doctors on SaintsRdabestforums.com who saw the game on TV said he shouldn't be playing, I think it's clear he didn't belong out there. Far be it for the medical personnel on the sidelines would bother conducting actual physical assessments in the face of that expertise.
Do Your Job

PFF grades confuse me.  I don't remember Flowers making one impactful play. Even when he pressured Foles it seemed liked Foles completed the pass more often than not.

Also, are those the top 5 grades for both teams or just New England?

Yup.  I'm ensvisoning that big gargantuan Gronk reaching into the sky and swiping that ball out of the air; much like Godzilla would do to a fighter jet.
You're out of your element  here Thunderlips.  Godzilla had tiny little arms, ill positioned to reach up.  When Godzilla had an issue with fighter planes he burned them with his lazer/fire/atomic breath.  King Kong was the one to grab them.

PFF basically grades if you're doing your job correctly. Are you in the right spot, did you run the right route, did you hit the right hole, did you throw the pass correctly. For a majority of plays, this works but there are some plays that just can't be measured that way.

If that's the case, then why the high grade on Eric Rowe? He got beat repeatedly by Jeffrey and missed a few big tackles. Rowe was a big reason why the Pats lost. He was utter garbage that game.

 I never claimed it was perfect. Just their methodology.

I think you get bonus points for giving up big plays and looking good in warm-ups...

I didn't think he looked like garbage, actually.  He got beat because of beautiful pass placement by Foles.  There were quite a few passes he did a good job of breaking up as well.  Philly didn't have guys running free like NE did - Foles had to put most of those passes in there perfectly.

:goodposting:

I'm no huge Rowe fan, but let's give credit where it's due. Philly WR are very talented and Foles played a great game overall. When you have guys like Jefferey playing at their top level, and a QB making throws like Foles did, the list of CBs that can contain that is very very small.

Like I said, its almost as if the Eagles weren't a top-3 team all season.  And only non-Eagles fans were surprised at Big Balls Doug going for it on 4th and 1 at the goal line.  Every Eagles fan knew that was 4-down territory for Doug.

I was especially amazed at how amazed Collingsworth was that the Eagels were going for it. It's like, Chris, did you even do any research on the Eagles for this game? Michaels at least acknowledged that the Eagles had done that a lot this season. It also sounded like Collingsworth disapproved of the decision before the play, but that could of been my Eagles bias kicking in.

At least we have an explanation from Giselle what happened on Sunday.  I guess she told her kids "Sometimes you have to let other people win."  So Philly fans owe NE a "thank you" for letting them win one.  ;)

Don`t think Rowe played bad.  Hard to defend a perfect pass and a great catch. Eagles gave up over 500 yards passing to Brady so it was a tough game for the secondary's.

It was pointed out how bad our defense was against experienced QB's this year.  Going into the season we had our CB's as the weak spot - hoping adding a healthy Jones with a full training camp with Darby can clean some of that up.
