**Official Super Bowl Pre-Game Thread** Saints vs Colts (1 Viewer)

I predict the line to be colts -2.5
I say it's higher.......I say Colts -4.5.
on second thought i agree given that new orleans barely won that game and likely wouldn't have without some seriously bad plays by minnesota and some turnovers.on a neutral site, minnesota wins that game.If i'm a saints fan, i'm pumped, but not thrilled with my team's performance at all... and i'm terrified of teh colts

I think the line will be close to Colts -6.5

Prediction for the game:

Colts 34

Saints 27 with a late FG just to make it more interesting but the Colts in control most of if not all of the way.

Yah the Vikings certainly looked like the more talented team, but were just sloppy as hell. Colts should destroy the Saints.

The Saints played a much tougher opponent than the Colts did, and they won. I think the Saints are the better team, and will prove it in 2 weeks.

Those that are hating on the Saints are crazy. To me, the Colts and the Saints are practically the same team, except the Saints run the ball better. Two great offenses and two questionable defenses. Why the Saints suddenly have no chance in a game that could quite possibly be a shootout, I have no idea. That Vikings defense won't be on the field in two weeks.

This is should be a great game, and congrats to the Saints for making their first ever Super Bowl!

I don't necessarily expect the Saints to win, but people who think the Colts will run away with it are mistaken.

That was a tough, TOUGH game tonight. Each team made the other look ugly in terms of execution and despite the amount of points scored it was a very tough and physical defensive ballgame.

Brees did not play well at all, matter of fact it was one of his worst games on the season, and they managed to still put a lot of points up. They will put more points up against a Colts defense that is not as good as the defense they just faced.

I think the pressure here will be on the Colts to match the Saints offensively, rather than the opposite.

If the Saints defense can hold the Colts to under 28 points then I think the Saints win the game. The defense is going to have to come up with the big plays against the Colts like they did against the Vikes, but I doubt the Colts are going to be as careless with the ball.

Colts defense looks quite a bit better than the Saints. They basically shut down the number #1 rush team & AP had no problems carving up the Saints. I think the Saints will have to play much better to win the Super Bowl. Anything can happen in the NFL & especially the Super Bowl.. But the Colts look like the best team going right now on both sides of the ball..

What no Super Bowl Championship gear? Someone call the Jets - they probably had wed design ready ahead of time that the Saints can borrow.

The Colts shut down a team that they KNEW would run the ball. The Saints have a much better balanced offense than the Jets. Also, you know, we played against the #2 offense in the NFL last night. I mean, you're really surprised that the Colts defense looked better against the Jets than the Saints looked against the Vikings?? The Saints held the Jets to 10 points earlier in the season. The Jets aren't exactly an offensive juggernaut.Could we look a LITTLE past the surface before we start to spout off?

Geez.. calm down there. Are all of you Saints fans going to act like this for two weeks. If you don't think you need to play better than you did yesterday than go enjoy your loss in 2 weeks..

I didn't mean it like that. We need to play better to beat the Colts because I think Manning is the best QB in football. The Saints played against a much better opponent than the Colts did yesterday, that's all I'm saying.

Cool.. I can agree with that.. Good luck. I certainly would lke to see the Saint win...

My feet still haven't touched the ground. So THIS is what it feels like to finally see "your" team in the Superbowl. Nice.

The Vikings were a good precursor to the game against the Colts. They have a similar speed rusher on the outside, so you need to contain him like you did Allen.

The Vikings opened up the game with short passes, and really ran a Colts type offense for their first two (10 plays each!) drives. They need to prepare better for that because they're going to see plenty of it.

I think the Saints matchup exceedingly well with the Colts, with the exception of coverage on the TE. Favre was able to hit Shiancoe at will in the second half, and it became evident early and often that Roman Harper couldn't cover him. Shiancoe is no Dallas Clark. The Saints need to figure out how they're going to cover him on those crossing routes, especially in their blitz packages.

They also need to hit Manning all day like they did Favre. Let him know everytime he drops back, he's going to be looking up at the night sky instead of downfield.

This game will not even be close. Colts will blow out the saints.

I mean the Saints allowed the Vikings over 450 yards of offensive, if wasn't for six fumbles and two INT's the Saints lose. Manning is not a 40 year old QB, and Colts o-line is a much better pass blocking unit then the Vikings.

Anyone think the Colts will fumble six times, I don't think so.

Several times this year the saints have allowed over 500 offensive yards in a game. Manning and Clark have to be licking their chops.

Don't get me wrong it's been a great season for the saints, but how do you cover all the weapons the colts have, I mean Clark might be all the Colts need.

Who Dat?

As expected the Colts are the favorites. No Surprise there. However I wonder, are they as good as all the hype? yeah 14-0 is no small feat just as 13-0 wasnt a piece of cake for the Saints. What common opponents or indicators are there as far as if Indy is the strongest opponent the Saints have faced this year. They beat the Jets 30-17, The Saints beat the Jets 24-10. Indy beat Miami 27-23, Saints beat Miami 46-34. Indy beat St. Louis Rams 42-6, while the Saints beat them just 28-23. Indy beat New England 35-34 while the Saints beat New England 38-17. Indy rested its starters against Buffalo so I will throw that game out of the mix. Anyway to me they look pretty evenly matched as far as how they took care of common opponents. Is Indy a more fierce opponent for the Saints than the Vikings were? How do you make the case if you think so? My personal feeling is that Payton Manning will be a very conflicted individual going against his Dads old team, his home town team that he rooted for all those many years he lived here. Oh I believe he will try to win the game but he will have some real struggles IMO mentally with that. Any way I hope it will be every bit the nail bitter the Saints/Vikings game was and will make an excellent Superbowl. Drew Brees MVP Superbowl, Manning Regular season MVP. I like the sound of that.

 Maybe Payton/Williams can confuse Manning with their defensive scheme for a while, but I don't see the bolded happening.

Yep, that was pretty absurd. Just so everyone knows, the Colts are Manning's favorite team ;) Also, Marino became his favorite player after his dad retired. Looks like he didn't care all that much for the Saints.

Oh he liked Marino because he was a case study in how to QB a team but he didnt give a rats ### about the Dolphins. Peyton is still a Saints fan but he doesnt play for the Saints so of coarse Indy is his favorite team. Duh? I am not saying he wont try to win the game but to say that no emotion will disturb Manning over this is denying the obvious.

Keep posting against the Saints that they're terrible and will lose and don't stand a chance. You've only done so since the beginning of the playoffs. Maybe if you keep it up, you'll get it right eventually. This is your last chance, though

Personally, I think the guy is a huge Saints fan and is trying to pull the reverse jinx thing. If so, he should keep it up because it's working. Here's the thing, the Colts scare me less than the Vikings because their defense looks more like ours than the Vikings. We know there are holes on the Colts defense just like their are holes on the Saints defense. One good thing, though. The Colts don't have an Adrian Peterson and haven't run the ball well all season, which is where the Saints are weakest. The Saints pass defense is it's best asset. Now, against Peyton Manning, just like against Brett Favre, it might not matter as those guys can pick apart any secondary. But, as long as Drew is our QB, I like our chances in a shootout. Our offense is more balanced than the Colts and we can score a ton of points also. We just need a couple of breaks. Now, I've said all of this, but on that other team is Peyton Manning and he could make the whole thing moot by being in a zone, which he can do almost like no other QB I've ever seen. I mean, until the int at the end of the game last night, Favre, IMO, was in a zone. Most of the passes he was completing were to guys who were covered. There weren't a whole lotta guys running free. But that's what's scary about Manning. You can have great coverage and he can still beat you.

I don't think you are taking into account how the games were played yesterday. The Jets played nearly a perfect football against the Colts for the first 3 quarters (no turnovers, few penalties and some outstanding plays) and Indy still ended up with a convincing win. The Vikings made a ton of mistakes throughout the game but the Saints still just barely won (with the help of some questionable calls). The Vikings may be a better overall team than the Jets, but if they were to play against each other the way each team performed yesterday, the Jets would have beaten the Vikings handily in my opinion.New Orleans and the Colts may have about the same offensive ability but the Colts' defense is a hard hitting, aggressive and talented unit. The numbers and rankings got skewed with them playing subs for the last couple weeks of the season, but the Indy defense is their advantage in this game.I also feel that the Saints may be affected by the fact that they had to work so hard to just get to their first Super Bowl. There is a tendency sometimes for a team in that position to sub-consciously feel like they have accomplished their mission by getting to the big game and that causes them to lose a little bit of their edge. The Colts have been there before and know how to handle all the distractions that Super Bowl week can bring. I think there is the potential for the Colts to get out to a quick start and make this one of the more lopsided Super Bowls we have had in a while. (We have been lucky to have competitive Super Bowl games lately. I'm old enough to remember that there was a time period when it was rare for the Super Bowl to actually be an interesting game.) Of course, it's a funny game and a bad bounce here or a couple great plays by the Saints there and it could be New Orleans getting the win. The Saints will need to play better than they did yesterday though.

The Saints were also a top 10 defense for the first part of the season until injuries hit them.Look, I know the Colts defense is better than their ranking, just like I think the Saints defense is better than their ranking, however, the fact remains that the Saints just played against a better defense than the one they are about to play against.IMO, that means the Saints will be able to score which gives them a chance.

The Colts don't have an Adrian Peterson and haven't run the ball well all season, which is where the Saints are weakest.
This also means that the Colts won't likely hand the Saints the ball too often. Addai did just average 5.0 YPC against the Jets, who are much better against the run than the Saints.I'm pretty sure the Colts will be able to run all over NO, when the want to.

We'll just have to see. With two weeks, I think Greg Williams and Sean Payton will come up with a good gameplan for both sides of the ball. You know, we were a #1 seed also. We didn't just slide into the playoffs. We were the best team the NFC had to offer all season. So, I wouldn't start polishing that trophy just yet.
