It might not be a bad move by Arum to sacrifice Manny to him and try to put him over as a legit PPV guy.
I was actually surprised this was a PPV, speaking of that. I mean, boxing enthusiasts have seen Crawford enough the last couple years to know he's legit and a great fighter, but I didnt think he was at PPV status yet strictly because his name isnt really out there yet to the point where he'd demand selling PPV's. I guess most of the PPV names these days are over the hill for the most part, but one would think you throw Crawford on his first PPV vs a name fighter, or at least have him fight Postol with a noticeable undercard fight.

It was a budget issue on HBO's part. Nobody wanted this to be a PPV.

Arum had said he wanted this fight on HBO but HBO wouldn't pay for it so it was either PPV or not have the fight.

Interesting...I wonder why HBO wouldnt pay for it as well how much the PPV did actually sell.
The PPV numbers are going to be weak. Bradley/Pacquiao was between 400-500k, this is going to be well south of that. But they also weren't fighting for PPV-type purses, Crawford got 1.2mm, Postol about half that. For comparison, I think Broner got around a mil for thrashing Theophane on PBC. This fight simply just didn't move the needle for HBO as an organization, so they took the cash.

Crawford insisted in the post-fight that in a hypothetical fight against Pac, it'd be for his belts at 140. Pac's last fight at that weight was 2009, when he crushed Hatton. But given his fairly small frame, I can't imagine it'd be too difficult making that weight. The question is when does Crawford move up? If he beats Pac, great, but what else is there to do at 140?

Nothing to do with a lack of interest in the the fight. It's just HBO has an annual budget and has a specific amount they slot for all their main fighters which means 2x a year for the top guys. This fight being scheduled likely means we see Bud fight 3x this year. HBO just doesn't have the $ for that in their boxing budget.

Yea i will admit i waited and watched it this morning.  didnt want to spring for it.  But i was also super hung over so i may have if i wasnt.

i think pacman will do better than people  might think...he was sparring with Postol regularly i heard and did very well
I think so too but I don't see him winning. Bud is just too good right now.

If PAC was in his prime this would be an all time great trilogy.

I wonder if Crawford's on a similar trajectory to Mayweather. He may not be able to market himself as well (although he'd probably be well-served to try), but he has the ability to completely shut down other fighters. Crawford has more power (esp after May's hands started to go), Mayweather obviously has other-worldly defensive ability that Crawford can't match. They both possess incredible ring IQ.

Crawford seems like he has a frame that would support a move up to 147, they're both 5'8", although Mayweather has 2" more in reach. He's 28, which is the same age Mayweather was when he left 140 for good (and, subsequently, stopped knocking people out. He was 15-0 with only 3 KO's at 147/154). Think I mentioned this before, but after a Pac fight, I don't know what else there is for Crawford to do at 140.

I did see a lot of boxing people on Twitter complaining about how boring the fight was and how Crawford was content to just potshot to an easy decision. TBH, it's the first semi boring Crawford fight I can remember. Crawford-Gamboa was a potential FOTY and Crawford got hit with some major shots. Through the first few rounds, I thought Crawford was going to get put to sleep. That was by a fighter that's more of a true featherweight than lightweight. I think Crawford is outstanding, but I don't think we can say he is going to be able to just shutdown anyone like Floyd. I will be surprised if he dominates Manny. I don't think he would dominate Tim Bradley either. There are a lot exciting fights at 147 so I hopefully that is the direction he heads. If he beats Manny, he is fighting Floyd, right?

Stevenson takes out Thomas Williams with a monster left in 4. He says he wants the Kovalev/Ward winner, but color me skeptical.
That punch was a thing of beauty. Short and right on the button. However, Stevenson was taking some punishment in that right. He's sloppy as hell and it's hard to see him doing well against SK or AW. He does have that eraser straight left so anything could happen. I am not sure if the fight happens promoter wise, but at this point I don't see why Adonis doesn't make the fight. He is 38 and doesn't have many fights left. Why not go for that big payday?

On the PBC broadcast -- which I realize is essentially an infomercial for Haymon fighters -- they referred to Stevenson as a "superstar in the making." :lmao:

That might be his thinking if he's going to do it. Get the belt, milk it with a series of hometown fights against jobbers, and now maybe he's at the point where he's thinking about cashing in for potentially one big score. Or become the unified LH champ.

Pretty stoked for LSC/Frampton tonight, I got down quite a bit on Santa Cruz at -175, put a little on LSC KO +190, and an itsy-bit on LSC KO1 at 45-1.

Great lineup tonight. Starting now on Sho Extreme: Redkach and Malignaggi fighting. Leo Santa Cruz vs Frampton tonight. I think Mikey Garcia returns as well.

I actually loved the line on Frampton. GL

Yeah it's very possible that it's been pushed too far the other way. I think the thing to watch tonight will be Frampton's body-punching vs. LSC's "peekaboo" style, if he modifies that at all, or if he tries to counter and catch Frampton when he goes low.

I might also be biased in thinking that a lot of UK fighters get built up off weak domestic competition, without ever really facing a formidable North American/Eastern European opponent. Frampton's one fight stateside, I forget against whom, but he got dropped twice in the first before coming back to win.

Nice comeback fight for Mikey IMO.

I like the Gary Russell Jr trashtalk. If his hands can stay good, I think he can beat almost anyone. Calling out Lomachenko, thats a bold move though.

Was Gary Russell on something? He was ridiculous (in a good way). "Anyone that watches boxing knows who Gary Russell is. I don't watch boxing." LOL Loved it.

LSC still doing his stupid wrist turns, always figured someone would time him up on that.

Although Sergio had the tic of always pulling at the waistband of his shorts and it never seemed to be a problem.
