Not that it necessarily means anything, but GGG outlanded him 231-175 according to Compubox. Jabs were GGG 105-31, so Jacobs landed more power shots.

Helluva card.  Helluva fight.  I agreed with the chocolitito decision.  Also agreed with the ggg decision.  Didn't think Danny did enough to overcome the knockdown.  That weight really helped him.  Don't think ggg wants to fight him again.

I had GGG 114-113.  I had GGG up two points with 3 to go, then gave Jacobs the 10th and 11th.  I thought GGG clearly won the 12th.  Heck of a fight tho.  Jacobs did all anyone could have hoped for.

If I'm ODLH, I greenlight Canelo-GGG immediately, even pay GGG a little extra not to fight in June.  They almost lost their cash cow of a fight, and GGG looked far more beatable than ever.  Having said that, GGG still beats Canelo if it happens this year.

And I had Chocolatito winning by 4 points.  I was amazed he lost.  I noticed a pattern during the middle rounds in that his opponent often started hot in rounds while Gonzales would finish strong.  Maybe I was overvaluing the ends of the rounds.    He is not the same as he was at 112 tho, something I believed to be true during the Cuadras fight.

Watched again.  the knockdown was the difference.  There were 2 or 3 rounds that were really close(7th round was very close to me).  I could have seen this called for jacobs by different judges.  But i think they got it right.

    GGG    Jacobs
1    10    9
2    9    10
3    9    10
4    10    8
5    10    9
6    9    10
7    9    10    ?
8    10    9
9    10    9
10    9    10
11    9    10
12    10    9

Gonna be hard for De La Hoya to find some soft spots for his guy at 160, remember that Jermall Charlo has now moved up to 160 as well. Jacobs/Canelo might be a coinflip.

FWIW, ESPN and the AP had GGG winning but Yahoo and USA Today had Jacobs.
I watched the UK feed (:oldunsure:) think they had Jacobs by 3. Think two of the guys at Bad Left Hook had GGG, both guys on the Boxing Rant podcast had GGG. Still need to go back and watch it again.

Nolan at Deadspin said that, sitting ringside, it was clear that GGG was landing more/cleaner punches.

Damn DLH pisses me off!

So because GGG/Jacobs didn't do so well PPV...he is using it as leverage to continue to say Canelo is the A side and only offering GGG a flat rate instead of percentage.

He knows GGG won't take that.

Please do NOT buy any Canelo fights until he fights GGG.

It's really the only way to force this matchup.

But as long as people pay to watch him fight some never was Chavez Jr...we're going to keep getting this nonsense.

I really wished they'd just do a set thing on winner/loser In boxing.

Winner gets like 80-90 percent while loser gets like 10-20 percent.

Not a surprising tactic by DLH. Floyd floated the flat fee thing with Manny before they settled on their split (whatever it was, can't recall).

It will likely be in the neighbourhood of 60-40 split in favour of Canelo, which is how it should be considering Canelo is the A-side of the fight.

Been a little out of the PPV game of late, but anyone watching Quigley/Tapia on ESPN2 right now?
I don't think this one will be up for any Fight of the Year nominations, but it's a pretty entertaining brawl.  Quigley staggered Tapia twice, once in the first and once in the second, and looked like he was gonna cruise to an easy KO, but Tapia has been energized to take the 4th and 5th for me.

Golden Boy boxing! Weeknight fighting on TV!

Quigley's young and supposedly a prospect, I thought he looked like ####. Kept his hands too low, sloppy footwork, big looping punches. I'd be in no hurry to get him in against good middleweights, he'll get eaten by anyone decent right now.

Also judging by the Quigley/Tapia cards, any B-side with actual designs on winning should plan to knock their opponent clear out of the ring.

Agree with @tdoss on Canelo. Also 0% surprised.

Bet Brook +135. Skill/size advantage, more technically proficient, home crowd can shade the judges a couple points and nick a close decision for him. Spence's power is obviously devastating, but one has to think that Brook's going to choose his spots carefully and avoid getting hemmed in.

I also got a good price.

Guess no one is excited by Vasil vs Sosa.  I'm not really either.  I can appreciate Vasil but something about him is not exciting to me.  I'll probably watch tonight live but only because I haven't made any other Saturday night plans yet.

Man, I'm 180 from this. I think he's my favorite fighter to watch right now.

Efforting a stream as we speak. Also looking forward to seeing usyk and gvozdyk in action.

Yea should be good.  check reddit for streams.  they usually have some good ones posted.  gonna try to catch cromier afterwards.

I havent focused too much on the opening fight so far because I was catching up on the thread, but yeah, has been solid.

Lomachenko is a tough SOB to fight, no clue about the guy he is fighting though. That's probably what will depend on if its a good fight or not.

Thanks for the UFC reminder, pinky

1st 4 rounds of the Uzyk fight have been the most competitive so far tonight.  Ukrainians predictably dominant tonight.

If I'm handling Lomachenko, I do one last check to see if Salido will take a fight in LA. Failing that, I move up to 135 and start off with Flanagan. He won't present many real problems, he has a title, it'd give Lomachenko some exposure in the UK (and experience fighting in front of an "away" crowd), and some decent coin, probably.

Then I look for Linares or Garcia next. Lomachenko says he eventually wants to get up to 140 to fight Crawford, but I think by then, Crawford himself will have moved to welterweight.

Stevenson looked pretty good, man he is literally just a kid still. They matched him with a fairly tough but completely unskilled guy, who wasn't really interested in just taking his L and going home, he dirtied it up a little. Did a good job switching levels, he's quick of course, didn't seem too bothered terribly getting clinched/wrestled. Shook his hand a bit at one point, but he's scheduled to be on the Crawford/Diaz undercard next month.

Caught bits and pieces of Berto/Porter. Berto needs to hang it up.

Missed out on the weekend fights.  Would have been more likely to watch the Porter-Berto card but sounds like the PPV was more memorable.

Next two weeks will be huge.  It's not an overstatement to say that Joshua-Klitschko is the biggest heavyweight fight since Lennox Lewis-Mike Tyson (13 years ago!) and one that is pretty hard to predict IMO.  Coming from London, it can be seen either live on Showtime or in prime time on HBO, the first time that's ever happened.

Then on May 6, it's Canelo-Chavez.  I'm getting more intrigued by this the closer it gets, and big fights are always good for the sport.  Still hoping this leads to Canelo-GGG.

The Klitschko/Joshua one is tough. But the one thing I can't get out of my mind is that VK is going to have a helluva time winning on the cards, given how nuts that crowd is going to be. Or just to overcome any chicanery that might occur. I can't pick against Joshua here, thin as his resume is to-date.

Canelo/Chavez I see more clearly, I will very likely be betting on Canelo via decision. Think Chavez is tough enough to outlast Canelo, and certainly big enough to give him some pause, but I think Canelo fights fairly carefully and wins a fairly wide UD.

I agree with that - picking Joshua to win hesitantly and Canelo more confidently but not a lock.  Joshua-Wlad could go so many ways and there are so many questions and angles at play.  I agree with the likelihood of judges being swayed by the crowd, but that crowd could just intimidate Joshua as much as motivate him.  Wlad has had issues with his chin but Joshua has only had his chin tested once, with discouraging results.  And Joshua is far more conventional than Fury (and unlike Fury is shorter than Wlad, albeit barely), meaning Wlad will probably be much more comfortable than he was in the Fury fight.

Oh yeah. Fury is a weird fighter. And that fight was a stinkfest, but fury's gameplan was really solid. AJ comes with a lot of 1-2 right down the middle, and is a totally diff story.

It will be an interesting test. Even an old VK is a lot to handle for a fighter with less than 100 pro rounds, even as good as joshua is.
