## OFFICIAL ## Taylor Swift thread (3 Viewers)

I don't know about hate but I don't have much respect for her as an artist. Her whole shtick is date guy, lose guy, write song about how it was all guys fault because Taylor is a flawless human being. Rinse and repeat. It's kind of been done to death.
Gimmie a break. She is an excellent writer. That is why she is a better artist compared to most in any genere. Maybe you don't get her lyrics, or like her writing, but you're not a young girl in her early 20's so I wouldn't necessarily expect you to. Her lyrics relate very directly with her target audience. And anyone that actually knows her songs knows that not every song is about losing the guy. Often times they stay together (Love Story, Tim McGraw, Mine, Our Song, Ours, Sparks Fly). Sometimes the song is about her wanting the guy back after they split up (Back To December). Sometimes it's about a new relationship starting (Begin Again). The idea that ALL her songs are about 'The Breakup' is basically what people that know very little about her like to say... which goes back to the OP's point. Why?
Rhianna dating the guy who abused her, that's juicyTaylor playing the role of well adjusted normal citizen pisses people offthank GOD young girls are listening to her
:goodposting: My daughters can listen to Swift's albums all they want.
I am 38 with a 10 year-old girl who loves Taylor Swift...my generation had Madonna, this one has Swift...as a dad, I could be happier.
What would make you happier?

For me it would be more wrestle time with mommy.

anyone mention the fact that she's not that talented?
How do you define "talent"? Unless they are a maestro on a particular instrument, most "singers" who are signed/popular/followed (and this is any genre), would be knocked out in round 1 of The Voice. I like Perry Farrell, but he isn't particularly good at what he does as a singer. Swift is "fine", but really, we like (or dislike) the voice that goes with the music behind it.

I admire her for her songwriting skills with strong melodies, rooted in blues and dirt under the nails. Grimy, raucous, and fun. Also, she sent me an autographed picture of her beav that was scratch and sniff as extra bonus. Groovy!

Hey now, stop making sense in here. Don't you know everyone in the FFA knows music better than the people who actually make a living in the industry?

Much like Usher, I couldn't name a song of hers.
Innocent. It is VERY good. It's about Kayne West and how he jumped up on the stage when she was winning a Grammy. Suuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuperb writing. Depicts a young Kayne catching fire flies and going to bed before monsters. It's about forgiveness and unbridled enthusiasm. She also rhymes the word "You" with "You". Not many songwriters can pull off that number.

She is turning off some of her core audience, that's for sure. Teen girls are rebelling against her as she's seen now as sort of psycho, buying houses next to boyfriend's she's had for 2 months. They think she just goes to whomever is hot at the moment. Harry Stiles from One Direction is what turned most of her teen girls fans off. I know. I have 2 teen girls.

Just checked it out. It's like she's speaking directly to me.

And see, what's great about her is she's saying: We ARE innocent. She's like the anti-Britney Spears who sang "I'm NOT that innocent". That is a shameful message to pass along to young women around this country and after she penned that epic ballad, her career went in the toilet. Enter in Miss Swift and her uplifting, positive message. I am. You are. WE are innocent. If you can't get behind that, well then....god help you.

At 1st I thought she was a complete trainwreck, no talent hack especially when she tried to sing with Stevie Nicks. Then my 5 yo daughter started liking her and I learned some of the guitar and we belt out the songs together - Kinda fun and umm, targeted for 5 year old to teenage Girls.Unless you have a young daughter you probably SHOULD think her writing / music is simple and bland popcorn crap and Hate her... I gave her credit from the start though for writing as opposed to those Disney kids who just get up there and robot whatever Disney thinks will sell.....Next Tour in NY.. I'm There! She puts on an elaborate show that is probably going to be something pretty special for my 5 yo. And I don't mind lots of backup dancers, milfs and stuff...... and as simple and bland as it is, I think it's inspiring to kids to try and play and write and I don't doubt that Taylor will grow as well - how can you not musically from a 13 year old to a 20 something selling out arenas. There's a TON out there to hate more than TS.
This was me. Barely knew her then had to take my two daughters to her concert (3rd row). She puts on a helluva show. I got hooked. I give her the benefit of the doubt as far as the shtick claims.Surprised people have such vitriol toward her. Like you said, a lot more out there more deserving of your hate.

3rd row???? WHY NO FRONT ROW?

:goodposting: This really nails it. There isn't a whole lot of variety to her music.
It's the part of her shtick that sells, but apparently (*read this, not familiar enough with her music to firsthand attest) she's written a lot of songs with other themes. They're just not as popular.

I was going to say a girl named "Candi" (yes, with an "i"), but I'll take anything I can get, even if that means "mommy".

I know someone who's close to her. Says she's a great girl. Takes care if the people around her.

I live in Nashville and know some of the same people she does. Never heard a bad word about her. Heard she puts on a great concert.

Uses a lot of cool props. Doesn't take a lot of breaks and sings almost every song she has (back then it was less). Prolly burns a million calories during the show.

Her music is a guilty pleasure of mine...Know clue why. It is catchy. Don't care, I like it. Windows Up, system down. :bag:

I have a 13 and a 9 year old girl. They both love her. I actually liked her first 3 albums enough to not mind listening to with them. This last one they really like, me, notsomuch.Give me Taylor signing about exes and high school innocent nonsense over someone like Keisha who is also popular with younger girls - except her stuff is crap and she's singing about brushing her teeth with Jack Daniels.

She does give a lot to charity/worthy causes. That's cool at least......but she's still a prude.
I would think most dads would want their daughters to be prudes, no?What's the opposite of being a prude? Giving up the butt to a 35yo black guy?

I confess that I haven't read this thread, but I just had to chime in because, while I can't put my finger on exactly why, I truly cannot stand that skanky #####. Hate her big time.

Taylor Swift hasn't even had a breakup. She's never really been with anybody to begin with. Holding hands with someone at a flea market is not a "relationship". That's part of the reason people are quick to dismiss her. It'd be like someone writing a book about how difficult drumming is when all they've ever done is hold drumsticks. That and her songs make ears bleed. How in the hell was that Never, ever, ever, ever getting back together song nominated for an award??? Just hearing it for a few seconds turns me into a cat about to get into a shower.

 I love how people both call her a prude and a skank. eomman - I think her being a prude or at least more conservative is a great thing for her young fans. As a parent, I would prefer my daughter liking her to some totally skanked out pop star. I really appreciate that she is appropriately dressed 99% of the time.Controller - I'm guessing you think she is a skank because she dates a lotta guys. At her age, I don't see a problem with it. She's famous, so they are gonna blast pictures of her out there but she's in her 20's, she should be dating.

She's definitely not a skank. She's the girl that you're dating for two months who'll only make out and swats your hand away when you try to cop a feel. You're not going to keep the 20 year old famous dudes around long with that kind of defense. After the guy inenvitably walks away she writes a song about what a snake the guy was for "breaking her heart". You were never, ever, ever, ever together in the first place, honey.

Well, I don't really see that as a bad thing. And I'll disagree, if you spend 2 months together, seeing each other everyday, that is a relationship. Britney Spears spent less time with her first husband.

Maybe she's one of those asexual people? She seems like she'd be horrible at it anyway. She probably shouldn't date at all if she's not going to put out. Or just date Mormons and born-agains.

And yet this somehow her fault? :loco: She needs to find a gentleman, not a boy, to date.

1st base only for 2 months? C'mon. She's not in Jr. high. I'm sure she tells them she saving herself for marriage to boot. couple that with she's not all that sexy and probably super annoying, the novelty of dating america's squeaky clean sweetheart wears off real quick. Doesn't take psychic to see why every guy she's ever "been with" bails after a month or so.

In fairness we don't know any of the specifics of these relationships. If she's leading them on and not putting out, that's a reason to break up. Nothing non-gentlemanly about desiring sex from a woman you are dating, and ending it if she is not compatible in that respect. Do we know for a fact she's saying from day one that she's saving herself? It would seem the onus is on her to say that given the age we live in.

Is she really seeing these guys every day? She's constantly working. I'm not saying she needs get down to hardcore business by week 2 but when it's obvious the relationship is indefinitely stuck at dog walks and dry kisses, how can she feel jilted enough to tell the world about getting "hurt"? She probably still watches Nickelodeon.

People always hate celebrities...what's the big deal. People are jealous and want to tear her down...that's all it is.

Again, I admit I can't quite put my finger on it, but she definitely strikes me as "skanky." Maybe it's unfair that guys who date a lot are not considered skanks, yet girls are. In any case, I can't stand Swift, can't stand her music, her attitude, don't find her attractive at all -- she is human saltpeter.

There certainly is a lot of hate for her. I agree that most of it is jealousy, but Swift doesn't come off well here:http://www.vulture.com/2013/03/taylor-swift-pits-herself-against-tina-and-amy.html

Taylor Swift continues her national magazine tour on the cover of Vanity Fair this month, and the accompanying story begins with a slight bomb: Taylor throwing shade at none other than Tina Fey and Amy Poehler. "Katie Couric is one of my favorite people," she says in reference to their Golden Globes joke warning Swift to stay away from Michael J. Fox's son. "Because she said to me she had heard a quote that she loved, that said, "there's a special place in hell for women who don't help other women." There is also probably a special place in Twitter hell for people who square off against superwomen Liz Lemon and Leslie Knope under the guise of feminism. Katie Couric is like, why'd you drag me into this? (So is Madeline Albright, we'd guess, although Swift did not attribute the above quote to her in the article.)Also of note: Taylor Swift would not talk about Harry Styles, but she did "authorize someone to discuss" him with Vanity Fair, which is a hilarious high-school move and totally Swift-ian. The source says Harry had a wandering eye, and disappeared one night in London, at which point everything fell apart. According to the magazine's reporting, Swift also did buy a house in Hyannis Port (next door to her other ex, Conor Kennedy), but she has already flipped it. Let the Hathaway-like shredding of Taylor begin (again).UPDATE: Amy Poehler has responded in a typically classy manner. "Aw, I feel bad if she was upset," she told the Hollywood Reporter. "I am a feminist and she is a young and talented girl. That being said, I do agree I am going to hell. But for other reasons. Mostly boring tax stuff."UPDATE No. 2: Tina Fey points out the obvious: ""It was just a joke, and I think it was actually a very benign joke."
