***Official Texas Rangers 2012 Thread*** (2 Viewers)

a week from today, going to my first regular season Rangers game in a long while. moved away from DFW in 1989, and i think i've only been to three games in the "new" ballpark. One was in the 2010 WS.
great night at the ballpark Friday night, despite the loss. Best seats i've ever had for a MLB game - 7 rows back, behind the Rangers' on-deck circle, not far from Nolan Ryan.Tried to get a table in the Cuervo Club, but even arriving before 530pm, all those front tables were already taken.Friday marked 4 consecutive sellouts, tying the franchise record set back in 1994 when the ballpark first opened. Didn't see if they broke that mark Saturday night.

Rays came in to make a statement and they accomplished that. Could not take advantage of the numerous blunders they had last night either.

I find it a bit unnerving that ESPN already has Texas' odds at making the playoffs at over 96 percent.

Feels like easy bulletin board material for the rest of the AL West.

I have been waiting at least a week to ask this...

Too soon to start thinking about winning the All-Star game this year?

Well, 1st bad baseball game of the year for Rangers...walks ,errors, misplays...still only 1 run behind in the 8th as i type this.

Amazing what a hot ticket the Rangers are these days. I just checked on the May 11 game (potentially Yu v CJ) and no dice on two seats together.

Interesting lineup for the day game:

Kinsler - 2B

Andrus - DH

Young - 3B

Napoli - 1B

Cruz - RF

Torrealba - C

Gonzalez - SS

Snyder - LF

Gentry - CF

Not to make excuses but the late night long flight + injuries + day game are some valid ones if you were searching for some.

Elvis' error played a huge part in this series.

Still on pace for 100 wins. I think 90 gets the West, so there is some room for some hiccups.Still, when is this team going to spend some money and get some pitching in here??/greggo

Frustrating 2 games. Hopefully we get Josh back Friday along with Beltre.

Supposed to be a cooler summer. If that's the case I think we get 3,000,000 attendance this year.

El Nino May Cool U.S. This Summer, Cutting Electric Need

By Brian K. Sullivan

April 24, 2012 1:16 PM EDT

The possibility of an El Nino, a warming of the mid-Pacific Ocean, has forecasters predicting lower temperatures across the U.S. this summer, which may mean less electricity will be needed to run air conditioners.

May will probably be warmer than normal, and then “we are expecting a much different type of pattern” than last year, said Todd Crawford, chief meteorologist at Weather Services International in Andover, Massachusetts.

Commodities traders watch temperature outlooks to gauge energy use and demand. About 51 percent of U.S. households use natural gas for heating, according to the Energy Department, while demand from electricity generators peaks in the summer months to meet air conditioning needs.

June through August 2011 was the second-warmest summer on record in the contiguous U.S., with an average temperature of 74.5 degrees Fahrenheit (23.6 Celsius), 2.4 degrees above the 1901-2000 average, according to the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration. The hottest summer in records going back to 1895 was 1936, with an average temperature of 74.6.

“The combination of an emerging El Nino event, expectations for relatively muted levels of atmospheric blocking and a cooler North Atlantic all suggest a milder summer,” he said.

Texas Cooldown

Crawford said the South, especially Texas, will be notably cooler than last year. Texas had the hottest summer of any U.S. state in 2011, with an average temperature of 86.9 degrees, according to NOAA. The previous high was in Oklahoma in 1934, with an average temperature of 86.5 degrees.

Last year, a La Nina ocean cooling pattern held sway in the central Pacific, contributing to warmer and drier weather across the U.S. South. La Nina ended this month, according to a statement today by the Australian Bureau of Meteorology.

Some computer models suggest an El Nino may replace the current neutral conditions in the Pacific and that may cause the summer to be cooler, said Matt Rogers, president of the Commodity Weather Group LLC in Bethesda, Maryland.

Rogers said there is a 40 percent chance that the eastern U.S. will be about 1 degree above normal from June to August and a 35 percent chance it will be 2 to 3 degrees cooler.

Crawford said if the El Nino does develop, the hottest part of the summer will be its start, with cooler weather arriving as the season wears on.

Mike Napoli leaves game with vision issue, will see eye doctorByEvan Grant / Bloggeregrant@dallasnews.com | Bio10:32 PM on Tue., May. 1, 2012 | PermalinkTORONTO - The Rangers played without Josh Hamilton and Adrian Beltre on Tuesday and it's possible they could be without Mike Napoli, as well, on Wednesday.Napoli left Tuesday's game with what was described as a vision issue. He will see an eye doctor on Wednesday morning. The Rangers are scheduled to play Toronto at 12:37 EDT to finish off the three-game series.Napoli said the vision problem - white spots or some blurring - started in the eighth inning. He played through it until the end of the inning, but the Rangers opted not to send him back out for the ninth. By the time he met with reporters about 20 minutes after the end of the game, he said the blurred vision sensation had abated.Napoli said the vision issue was not a reason for his error in the seventh inning. He bobbled Colby Rasmus' bunt and ended up getting nobody out on the play as Toronto loaded the bases. The Blue Jays went on to score three runs in the inning to take a 7-6 lead.Napoli said he got caught in between making decisions."I just booted it," Napoli said. "My first thought was to go to third, but if I was going to do that I should have used my glove and not my bare hand. I just didn't make the play."

I saw this right after Panda got hurt last night, my fantasy beisbol season was passing before my eyes. Hopefully big Mike is fine.

This is fairly similar to how last season started. The road trip starting in Det last year put the thing in an injury laden funk for a bit.

I'm in full fledged panic mode on Cruz though.

Bummed I am going to miss being in the house for Yu vs. CJ.

The Rangers did what they needed last night. The Balt bullpen is still reeling from all the work they had over the weekend, and Texas is reaping the benefits. Just need to keep their foot on the gas and get a little momentum going into the LAAA series this weekend.

Can you have a big series with a first place team against a last place team in early May??

Not sure who is a better left-handed hitter in baseball right now than Hamilton, even when he doesn't get all of the ball it still has a chance to leave the park. When he's swinging like this I don't even understand why you pitch to him, even with this line-up.

I think the thing that amazes the most is that his swing looks relatively casual. Obviously, the ball exploses off his bat and his bat throws along the first base almost as legendary as his pure power attest.

My mother-in-law was like what the bleep. (paraphrase) "If I was that last pitcher, I would just rolled the ball to plate or threw it to the bleeping backstop and dared the manager to bleeping fire me, i would not let a dude who went just hit 4 HR in 5 ABs and other was some laser shot double take me to bleeping center. F that S."

The Pujols comparisons are pretty funny. I like the 'It will take Josh going 0-211 to equal Pujols slugging %' What a disaster.

I'm fully expecting him to tee off on Yu though.

That is a good one.I like that Josh had 8 RBIs last night.Pujols has 9, for the season.

Weird that all 4 were 2-run shots with Andrus the runner on base for each one.
Last night on the Dodger broadcast, Vin Scully reminded us of a similar story... In July of 1975, Joe Torre tied a major league record by grounding into four double plays in one game. Felix Millan, who was hitting ahead of Joe in the line-up, has four singles and never reached second base, as he was erased on each of the DP's. Asked about the dubious achievement after the game, Torre commented, "I couldn't have done it without Felix".

Beltre was hitting behind Hamilton on the night he totaled 18 bases.

Beltre was hitting in front of Green on the night he totaled 19 bases.

OHHHH ####!!!!

OHHHH ####!!!!
