LMAO at calling a game a must-win for a team UP 2-0
LYAO is not necessary.I hear the Yankees are happy to get out of NY and could be better because of it. If Detroit loses with their ace NY's ace goes the next day. Series could be even up real quick and the momentum would have done a 180.
Max Scherzer down?

There is likely some truth to that one statement. I expect NY to actually score in this game. Still Verlander in Detroit is not something the Yankees should feel really optimistic about given their inability to score. Detroit is a much better home team 50-31 v 38-43 on the road. And oh yea they just took 2 from NY in NY.

Sure a 180 could happen. So could a sweep.

Perspective.

I agree that tonight is a must win for Detroit. When Verlander pitches I consider all those games must win and the Tigers are in a perfect spot for a letdown (especially with a team who never makes anything easy). Keep your foot to the throat with your ace, got up 3-0 with the mindset you have to split the next two.

:lmao: 1-5 favorites ---> Must win game
I can kinda see the point. If by some miracle the Yanks win because Verlander gets stuck in traffic until 11pm, CC will be favored in Game 4. And if that is a win, it will be like the Yanks held serve at home.Still a bit silly to call it a Must-Win.

Aren't you pictured by the dictionary definition of silly posts? There are countless Yankee posts that are beyond LOLs.

I'd say the bulk of your work (shtick) in the Yankee thread is comedy gold.

Cool story, bro. Keep up the great work!

Just cut this clown, already.

He’s got balls.

Shameless Yankee slugger Alex Rodriguez was playing so poorly against the Detroit Tigers Saturday night that he was yanked from the lineup — but that didn’t stop him from trying to score.

After being replaced in the bottom of the eighth inning in Game 1 of the American League Championship Series, the highest-paid Yankee openly flirted with a pair of pretty women two rows behind the dugout — even sending them a ball bearing a note asking for their phone numbers, a witness told The Post.

“I watched him flirt with two admittedly very cute young women nearby,’’ the witness

Instead of rooting on his teammates as they struggled to stay alive during the tense game at Yankee Stadium, A-Rod, 37, had a ball boy toss the young women a baseball inscribed with a message asking for their numbers.

“Alex was holding a pen and wrote a note on a ball which was thrown at the women by a ball boy,’’ the witness explained.

“The girls, who had already caught two balls, seemed bemused at first and tried to hand the ball to another fan, but other fans noticed the note on it and yelled at them to read it.

“The note asked them to write their phone numbers on the ball and throw it back,’’ the witness said.

“One of the girls, with darker blond hair, wrote . . . on the ball and threw it back at A-Rod, who gave her a big smile.”

“They exchanged a few glances after that,’’ as A-Rod took a powder while a pinch-hitter took his place at the plate.

Raul Ibanez performed under pressure, tying the score in the bottom of the ninth.

In the 12th, team captain Derek Jeter broke his ankle — and A-Rod finally wised up, the witness said.

“The flirtation stopped once Derek Jeter got hurt,” the source said.

The Yanks wound up losing 6-4.

They also lost again to the Tigers 3-0 on Sunday.

Fans sitting behind the dugout at Saturday’s game said they were disgusted after witnessing A-Rod’s shenanigans, which were more befitting a sixth-grader than a serious ballplayer.

“I was absolutely stunned that even . . . A-Rod would not be focusing on such a critical game, supporting his teammates, and was instead more interested in adding another couple of phone numbers to what must be a very, very large collection,’’ one said.

Damn, realizing a ton of people I know left work early and will go in late tomorrow because they're going to the game. Living on the west side of the state that's a lot of Tiger faithful who'll be rolling into their driveways at about 3:00 am.

I'm lazy and will just be visiting a local establishment with friends. :banned:

Detroit Tigers' Jim Leyland: Jose Valverde an option at closer if Tigers need one in Game 3 of ALCS

DETROIT -- If the Detroit Tigers have the lead tonight and need a pitcher to close Game 3 of the American League Championship Series against the New York Yankees, manager Jim Leyland might go to Jose Valverde. He might not.

But Leyland didn't want to get ahead of himself.

"The first obstacle is having the lead at that point," he said. "I'll cross the rest of it when I get there."

If the Tigers have the lead, Leyland will decide on a closer based on how the game is going.

"I'm going to wait and see how things play out," Leyland said. "It could happen. I hope we've got to worry about it. But I'll wait and see how it plays out, what the lineup looks like, who they've got coming up. Things like that.

"You've got to have a couple different plans."

Leyland did not mention it, but it seems logical that part of the decision could come down to the score. It seems that Leyland would be more likely to go to Valverde with a three-run lead than a one-run lead.

Leyland said during the weekend that Valverde's delivery was too slow. Shortly after Leyland announced prior to Game 2 on Sunday that Valverde would not close the game that night but was still considered the team's closer, Valverde was in the bullpen at Yankee Stadium working with pitching coach Jeff Jones.

Leyland was asked whether the work Valverde and Jones have done together in the past couple days has paid off.

"You would hope so," Leyland said. "You probably won't know until you put him out there."

Valverde has been rocked in his most recent two outings. He gave up three runs in the bottom of the ninth inning in Game 4 of the American League Division Series, a 4-3 loss to the Oakland A's that forced the series to a decisive Game 5.

On Saturday, in Game 1 of the ALCS, Valverde allowed a pair of two-run home runs that allowed the Yankees to erase a 4-0 deficit and force extra innings.

Those four runs are the only runs the Yankees have scored against the Tigers. In fact, half of the earned runs Tigers pitchers have surrendered in the postseason have been scored against Valverde. He has allowed seven earned runs in 2 1/3 innings.

The rest of the pitching staff has allowed seven earned runs in 62 1/3 innings.
You have to be ####### kidding me. :wall:

I'm not opposed to letting him pitch to a right-handed batter or letting him pitch period until the tying run comes to the plate. Once that happens I go Dotel or Coke/Smyly depending on the match-up and get one out at a time. But basically you have to work with the mindset that as soon as this guy gives up a hit, you have to have your bullpen on high alert regardless of the situation. Honestly would be nice if they were up 6+ runs and let him go out there to see what he has. If he falters again though, I would never let him see a game where the Tigers lead again unless it's 17-0 or something.

Had someone offer me the ticket, but i had a family gig after work....reason 5,432 not to get married.Peace

NY sports talk and my Facebook going crazy over these changes.

What, if any, of these games are these people watching. This isn't the arod of 4 years ago and it's not even the arod of 4 months ago.

Very pleased that girardi chose to roll td dice with the devil we don't know rather than run two failures out there who lack either the pride or ability to make adjustments. I only wish we could bench grandy too but I'll take what I can get

Yankees 7-4 vs Verlander, Hughes has a .92 WHIP lifetime at Comerica and Cano is due to bust.

Seriously, this is the Yankees game to lose.

Cano will go off tonight.
:goodposting: Honestly, I'd be legitimately stunned if he doesn't. I expect a multi-hit game with a jack, and for the TBS announcers to gleefully proclaim the Robinson Cano we all know and idolize to be "back". Ernie Johnson will do his knowing little chuckle and say "Well guys, you can't expect to hold down Robinson Cano for very long. Everyone expected him to come alive in a big way, and he's doing it here tonight."The Yankees don't panic. They aren't like other teams. Ultimately, these guys aren't playing the same game.

Yeah, I'm getting a bad feeling, too, for the Tigers tonight.

Feels like the Yankees are like Ric Flair down on his knees begging for mercy. You go in to finish him off, you get a punch to the sack and, next thing you know, you're in the Figure-4. I've seen it a hundred times.

Then again, I thought the Yankees had cause for optimism after Game 1.

why do these TBS hacks continue to embarrass themselves?

"in the ninth inning you will see Justin at 97..."

come on, he easily hits 100 in the ninth when he wants to

watch a game or two...

peace
