They can't all be Carlos Beltran.
What does that have to do with anything? He's a mediocre player at best. You aren't talking about a serious trading chip here.
:lmao: The Rangers asked for him straight up for Gagne.
Says who?
I guess you too have also skimmed over this thread.
I don't recall you actually giving a source.
Buster Olney said it on the ESPN special. The Rangers asked for Kennedy OR Cabrera and were turned down.

Exactly how do you come to this conclusion on a player who is 22 and has been in the bigs since he was 20? He's done well for the role he has been given.
What difference does that make?
Because you're adamant that the guy is mediocre at best, yet at 22 as done well in the role he has been given under the magnifying glass that is Yankee Stadium. There must be something that you see in this guy that tells you he's mediocre at best and I'd like to know what it is. Do you watch every Yankees game?

Haven't read further back than this page and don't intend to. Never have I seen anywhere where the Rangers have said that they'd accept Melky for Gagne.

Well then it MUST be true :lmao:
:goodposting: Buster Olney was a former Yankee beat writer. I think hed have a few sources in the Yankee Front Office.

He has mediocre tools. There's nothing wrong with that. Why does he have to be more than a role player just because he's young?

Apparently, the Mets offered Philip Humber for Gagne. Not sure how true that is but wow if Texas passed that up.
There isn't anything particularly special about Humber. It might be a fair offer but the Red Sox deal is probably better. Humber was also apparently offered for Cordero and declined.

Imagine if regular reporters were as willing to jump the gun as baseball guys:

Insiders say the US will bomb Iran. Iran bombing a done deal, details to be worked out.

Bill to be introduced nullifying US constitution. Minor details of 3rd amendment pending.

UK to end diplomatic relations with France. Sees future upside in the deal.

Padres strengthen their bench w/o giving up an ML talent or any prospect of consequence, pending the PTBNL in the Machoviak deal.

Nice work Towers - the asking price was ridiculous on Loretta and Ensberg came way, WAY cheap.

Pirates acquire Morris from GiantsTuesday, July 31, 2007

By Dejan Kovacevic, Pittsburgh Post-Gazette

The Pirates today acquired starting pitcher Matt Morris from the San Francisco Giants for outfielder Rajai Davis and a player to be named later.

Despite day-long discussions with the Detroit Tigers, no deal was reached to send shortstop Jack Wilson to Detroit by the 4 p.m. non-waiver trade deadline.

Oh wow...
This one is a puzzling as the Astros dealing for Wiggington...

WTF would the Pirates want with Morris?
For Rajai Davis and some other player, I think its worth it to see if Morris has some of the magic he had earlier in his career
;) Davis is nothing special.
My only hope is that the Pirates are picking up the lion's share of Morris' $9.5M salary. Otherwise, the deal makes no sense. Hey wait a minute, the trade makes no sense any way you look at it.

The Pirates needed another starter, the Giants wanted to move Morris. It won't help the Pirates get to the playoffs or anything, but it does satisfy a need.

It looks like to me this is a classic salary dump... but usually its the Pirates dumping, not their trade partner. In any case Morris has not been horrible this year, he has a 7-7 record with a mid 4.00 ERA, which makes him instantly the No. 1-3 pitcher on the team, moving Maholm back to No. 4 and Youman to No. 5, and Armas back to the bullpen (thank goodness!)With the emergence of Nate McClouth as a steady CF, Duffy on his way back, and McCutchen waiting in the wings, R. Davis was very expendable.Good move Pirates, Good move. :lmao:

Tim Pupura was on the radio talking about how the Astros just didmt have the prospects to

make any deals...ironically, he's the guy who was in charge of the Farm system til recently.

I do agree that the Sox needed to add a right handed bat and am a little disappointed they didn't get it done.

Im happy that we got Gagne but we did add to a position of strength. Its certainly not going too hurt but I think a bat helps a little more.

Gagne and a bat would have been the best scenario.

Brian Cashman confirmed this last night before the game. Check the paper for his quotes. So I guess Melky IS a pretty good trading chip afterall equivalent to the 3 prospects Boston gave up.

Actually it was Melky AND one of the Yankee pitching prospects.

Gagne price too high for Yanks

The price the Texas Rangers wanted from the New York Yankees for reliever Eric Gagne, who was eventually traded to Boston, was too high for the Bronx Bombers.

The Rangers wanted either centerfielder Melky Cabrera or righthander Ian Kennedy as a centerpiece of a deal (they knew they could not get Phil Hughes or Joba Chamberlain), sources confirmed.

Yes, Melky is worth about Gabbard plus a 1st rd draft pick. That does not make him terribly valuable, but he is not completely useless either

I've said a hundred times on these boards I don't think Melky is that good.

GO BABY YANKEE GO!!!!! 3-3 today that follows on a great July .368/.410/.528.

Yep, that Jermaine Dye really sucks. :lmao:
My apologies. He's the greatest player alive.
I sense sarcasm
Nice to see your Sarcasmmeter is working. :lmao:
Oh! A Sarcasmmeter, what a worthwhile contraption! :lmao:
D-You're trying to hard here, guy. If you want to unequivocally bash me, pick your fights better.
Speaking of D-, your ability to assess Dye grades right about there.

Phils get Branyan from IndiansINQUIRER STAFF REPORTThe Phillies announced today they have acquired infielder-outfielder Russell Branyan from the Cleveland Indians for cash considerations.General manager Pat Gillick said a move will be made prior to tonight's game to accommodate Branyan on the 25- and 40-man rosters. Branyan, 31, began the season with San Diego and hit .197 with seven home runs and 19 RBIs in 61 games before being released on July 28. He was signed by Cleveland on August 7 and assigned to triple-A Buffalo, where he appeared in one game.A left-handed hitter, Branyan has a career average of .229 with 118 home runs and 293 RBI in 688 games for Cleveland (1998-2002), Cincinnati (2002-03), Milwaukee (2004-05), Tampa Bay (2006) and San Diego (2006-07). He has played 284 career games at third base, 149 in left field, 71 in right field and 41 at first base.Branyan, who will wear No. 4 with the Phillies, has played in the postseason with both Cleveland (2001) and San Diego (2006). Yankees were told to get Gagne they would have to give up either Ian Kennedy or Melky Cabrera

THANK GOD!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Whew
:football: :lmao: :lmao: you wouldn't give up melky for gagne?

:lmao:
Not for a 2 month rental of Gagne. Cabrera has been tearing the cover off the ball, is a better hitter than Damon right now, and is putting up close to Gold Glove level defense. He has been a God send.
Very little power, average on-base skills, very good defense. If the Yanks were serious about going for the WC, trading him for Gagne would've been a complete no-brainer. You're blowing Melky up just because Damon has been so bad. Melky is a 4th outfielder, or a starter on a bad team.
:lmao: 17 game hitting streak vs .450 BAA :lmao:
