Official US Women's soccer thread: *** US vs Holland RIGHT NOW! Naehers last game for US (5 Viewers)

Well, it seems Floppo will wake up to a good morning. US women won on penalties. Just rewatched the last 10 minutes of regulation. Craziness.
Highlights here...

Germany scored in the 2nd minute of 8 extra of regulation to "close it out" 2-0, game set. Match.

The PK save by the GK Wy to seal it was world class.

Absolutely epic win. I need to see extended highlights of this thing.
I just finished watching the entire game without knowing the outcome......unbelievable.

Oh, wow! Going to write down the name Teagan Wy for the future.

Wrong.

Correct answer is Wy not.

The USA will play North Korea in the first semifinal today, kicking off at 5:30 p.m. ET (FS2 & Telemundo Digital) at what will surely be a steamy Estadio Pascual Guererro in Cali, Colombia, with Japan facing Netherlands at the same venue at 9 p.m. ET.

Well deserved win by North Korea over the US. They are a very complete team.

There is a chance for an all Asian final now as Japan is still to come in the other semi final.

Sounds like a dominating win by NK, despite the 1-0 score line implying it was closer.

They'll face Japan in the finals, 2-0 winners vs the dutch who the US will face for third.

I only watched the second half. There was a long period in second half where US was pressing for equalizer but NK kept them on their toes with counters.

The announcer mentioned that NK had a very strong first half.

I wish I watched it... Really curious to see how NK is doing this. They've steamrolled the top teams in the world so far, although Japan sounds like a deserving co-finalist and should provide for a great final.

There was a NK men's team years ago... Can't remember the competition, but they had a surprisingly successful run for a not highly skilled squad and used high pressure (when that wasn't really a thing) and doubled up on defense every chance they could to win the ball and counter.

Don't think they were as well rounded as this women's team, and didn't make the final.

The announcer had high praise for NK. He mentioned that even by the 10 minute mark of the first game of the tournament he thought they could win the whole thing. I can't say that they leaped off the screen for me or anything but looked to be well coached, solid technical skills and decent athletic ability.

The US best the dutch on an own goal in the 119th min to take 3rd place.

Sounds like a deserved win with the US dominant in stats.

North Korea and Japan play for the final today I assume on FS2.

US u17s lost to Spain (turning into a theme) and then beat Colombia and S Korea to advance our id their group in the u17 WC in Dominican Republic.

They'll face pre tournament favorites Nigeria on Saturday.

As with the u20 wc, N Korea appears to be really strong. Last group games are today to determine the rest of the quarter finals.

Host DR made history by getting their first ever WC goal and point at any level. (in a tie with NZ)

US and N Korea are playing right now in the semis on FS1... 0-0 in the 45th minute. N Korea knocked the US out of the u-20 WC this summer en route to winning it all.

England vs Spain tomorrow.

So what happens to N Korea at the women's level. They've figured something out at the youth level and have been arguably the best and most consistent program in the world. But then ..

That said, some of these u17 "girls" look like they're in their 30s.

US Soccer will make a “historic women’s soccer announcement” in New York City Tuesday US Soccer President Cindy Parlow Cone and CEO JT Batson will host a press conference joined by special guests

Btw, US beat England 3-0 to take 3rd.
NKorea beat Spain to win their 2nd women's youth WC of the year.
Methinks they are cheating somehow. Overage players?
Surprisingly NK has had a strong women’s program for many many years. Women’s soccer started in NK in the 80’s, which was earlier than most of the world.

The senior team has never been ranked lower than 12th and are currently ranked 9th.

But it is not with out controversy. If memory serves they got caught in a big doping scandal about ten years ago.

Slightly interesting article behind the iconic photo of Chastain celebrating WC99 win. Most interesting thing to me is that DiCicco told her to take it with her off/left foot...and she did! I always assumed she was a lefty. I mean, it worked, so who am I to say- but that's some idiotic strategy there.

Alyssa Naeher will retire from international football after the upcoming series of games in Europe. 2 Wold Cups, a Gold Medal and probably a ton of other regional trophies. Class act all the way. Conventional wisdom seems to be she's probably second best all time to Solo but obviously much more loved by teamates and fans.
