i think the other issue is that they only add new people every month. so if they wanted to add someone exciting they have to wait a month. Should do it every 2 weeks at least.
Umm maybe you missed the part where they were making a chicken tractor?Thing is, they'd be borderline lost without Red. He's the only one who knows anything about living in these conditions.

DAMN that chicken tractor! Can't forget about their keyhole farming method either which will at least octuple their production.
Agreed. I hope they stay there forever. Even after the show is over. Just take squatter's rights and they keep the web feed rolling. The ex-con is a serious loose cannon. Flipping out one minute, visiting the Reverend and quoting the bible the next...his one liners crack me up.
pickled horseradish?!

Prison food is the best food!
Him and Red stomping on canned goods like little kids on a playground at recess was hilarious.
That'll learn em!

Any weapons allowed? Hex would go Hunger Games on him with her bow.I wanna see Hex fight the convict. 50/50 on who wins.
It is.How did they possibly spend 50 million on this? That's some shady accounting. The set looks like a ####ty ranch.
Not only that, this is a situation I don't think any of us has ever been in or witnessed. How could anyone know they're not behaving naturally or unlike any of us would? I think people underestimate just how much stress the pioneers are under here.I'm confused why people keep saying these people are so stupid that they must be actors. Do you guys not go out in the real world? Our planet is filled with about 99% stupid people. And about 75% of those are beyond stupid. I don't think it would take more than an hour to find 14 dumb people to be on a reality show.

Pooping in a hole in the ground, cold showers under a water valve, constantly being hungry, heat wave/drought conditions, constantly being watched and judged by cameras, sleeping on cold concrete with little padding below and above, and the general uncertainty that it will get better. That's stressful enough, but then your stress gets pooled with over a dozen other people's, whom your success is tied to.
It's a pressure cooker of stress and anxiety. I'd be more skeptical if they weren't fighting (and they don't constantly fight, that's just all that makes it to the show).
This shouldn't be a surprise to anyone. Fox's comments are great too. This could be an interesting show, it is simply miscast.2nd episode ratings were in the toilet
You perfectly described the problem. Apparently people are not entertained with this edit. Not only that, this is a situation I don't think any of us has ever been in or witnessed. Yep. It's no coincidence that the only two fans of this show (other than Shiek) are the two who are keeping up with the feeds. The conditions do seem like Survivor (from what I've seen of the show), just with a different objective. AMAZING #Utopia news. Tuesday's show up 56% in the live+3 rating to a 1.4. VERY good sign. Live+3 is one of the most important metrics in TV
I still stand by my comment that once Big Brother is over we will see exactly where this show is.The +3 viewers have been very good and most of that comes from the BB audience not being able to watch them both at the same time. Not good:Big test tonight. At 9 FOX launches the new season of The Mindy Project & The New Girl. Meanwhile, it's up against only 2 non-reruns, DWTS Results Show and Big Brother. With repeats on the other 2 networks, if Utopia gets crushed tonight and drags down the FOX sitcoms in the process, there could be blood on the walls soon. Mindy & New Girl are not up against as much competition, since ABC and CBS switch to airing reruns at 9pm, only NBC has original programming (America's Got Talent). If Utopia hurts the sitcoms up against what should be a cakewalk launch night, I'd expect to see a serious shakeup quickly from the network.Getting half the audience of "Dads" and putting a -33% dent in the networks darling sitcoms is not helping this shows chances. In season-premiere news, Fox comedies New Girl (season four) and The Mindy Project (season three) did not benefit out of anemic Utopia. This second Tuesday 8 p.m. telecast of Utopia finished fourth in the hour with a mere 1.9/ 3, which was one-tenth of a rating point (or five percent) below its already DOA 2.0/ 3 one week earlier. And that abysmal 2.0 overnight household rating translated into 2.48 million viewers and a 0.9 rating/3 share among adults 18-49 (based on the Live + Plus Same Day data). Comparably, Utopia slipped by a hefty 57 percent from the average 4.4/ 7 for the debuts of sitcoms Dads (4.2/ 7 on 9/17/13) and Brooklyn Nine-Nine (4.6/ 7) on the year-ago evening.
With competing NCIS returning on CBS next week, that 0.9 could end up a 0.6 or a 0.7. And Fox will need to address Utopia in the very near future.
With minimal lead-in support, Foxs New Girl opened with a distant third-place 2.3/ 4 in the overnights in the 9 p.m. half-hour, which was a considerable 41 percent below the 3.9/ 6 for the season-opener on the year-ago evening. And a 2.0/ 3 for the return of The Mindy Project at 9:30 p.m. (#3) was 33 percent below the 3.0/ 5 season-premiere one year earlier. Obviously, lead-in still does matter and Utopia is just not delivering.
For me, I enjoy reality shows. This one is interesting to me because it's a new format. At least for me. I don't watch BB, so I don't know how similar they are.One of you guys still in on this... nutshell of why you're watching? What do you like about this?
why? can you elaborate?this show is interesting to me as well. i will continue to watch. but its fading fast. Now that dave is gone and the crazy religious guy. Its gotten boring. I cant see it lasting much longer but i hope it does last until the initial vote off.
The live feeds. I like to people watch, and I like to learn about sociology/watch social experiements. This is just one of those for me, and I will probably stick with it for as long as I believe it is "real", which I still do. I'm not in it for the fighting or drama, that just goes with it.One of you guys still in on this... nutshell of why you're watching? What do you like about this?
That's fair. It's not for everyone. If the format of reality TV is something you don't like, then I would assume that this has no appeal to you. It's not ground breaking by any means. And it's not different enough to get people who hate reality TV to watch it.why? can you elaborate?this show is interesting to me as well. i will continue to watch. but its fading fast. Now that dave is gone and the crazy religious guy. Its gotten boring. I cant see it lasting much longer but i hope it does last until the initial vote off.
I don't see this as any different than any other reality show, from the little I watched, so am curious if there's something else going on. And for me- I got tired of that format years ago; I also don't like seeing people act like #######s and don't find any humor or joy in it. Jersey Shore was the point at which I realized- ugh- no thanks.
This is probably my biggest reason for watching reality TV. I love seeing how people react in certain situations. Who cares if those situations are manufactured? It's not so much the situation I care about as much as the reaction by the people in that situation. The live feeds. I'm one of the few who have stuck with this Big Brother season to the end. It's been a pretty dull season as far as game play goes, but I still enjoy watching the live feeds.
