I've been saying this for months! The guy is a MORON and now people are starting to see why I've been saying it. Not just the Moss thing (which is completely ridiculous, just because Moss questions him) but MANY other things. Just look at the creative way he gets Gerhart open but he doesn't use those same plays for Peterson, his most explosive and one of the most explosive players in the league. Not to mention Peterson is out of the game in most crucial situations. Not going for points at the end of a half because "They still had 2 time outs" ..... MORON

It really doesn't matter what he does off the field. When you have that much talent and you continually sabotage games for them you're worthless to your team. Give me a coach who can take less talent and put them in a situation to win any day.

Your team already had that guy in Tice and decided he was just a goofball and a bad HC. I wonder if Chilly being exposed for who he is will give Tice a HC opportunity somewhere in the future?
I remember all the Packer fans getting upset when Childress went to Minny.....and all the Viking fans claiming it was some huge theft. But those of us who rooted for the Badgers (where Chilly was the OC for a few years) saw that the man had zero imagination when running an offense. He was fortunate enough to coach Ron Dayne, with a dominant O-line. But he was a moron back then, and he's still a moron now. One of my buddies from UW (former college player, knows his stuff) called me up laughing the day Chilly signed with the Vikes saying "this is the greatest thing possible for the Packers - not only doesn't he come here, but he destroys a division rival too!"
This has been my opinion on the matter all along. The Vikings have a tremendous group of talent evaluators in place right now and this includes Childress. When Ziggy bought the team 5 years ago, it was one of the least talented teams in the league and was getting old. In less than five years(last year), Chilly, Spielman, and Rob Brzynski turned the Vikings around. You can argue that they are one of the most talented teams in the league. So, in light of that, I used to give Childress the benefit of the doubt on some of his poor gameday decisions. The Vikings were talented and always seemed to come to play. However, he's losing the respect of the team and quickly. I don't care how good of a talent evaluator he is because he'll never win a super bowl with his attitude toward the players and his inability to make good decisions on game day. Last year was his one hope and that ship has now sailed. The Vikings need to make a move before this guy squanders the careers of AP, Harvin, and Rice.
Impact players added by current management? How about every impact player outside of Bryant McKinnie, Kevin and Pat Williams, EJ Henderson, and Antoine Winfield. Those are seriously the only "impact" players left from the previous administration. So, given your statement, you must consider the Vikings devoid of talent.

This argument would be more reasonable if Childress had not already proven he's not going to do that for everyone. During training camp he blasted Adrian Peterson for missing one day of camp due to Adrian Peterson Day down in Texas, and yet he lets Brett Favre "mull" retirement and miss the entire camp. He's talked out of both sides of his mouth too many times for anyone to really take him seriously on disciplinary matters. As far as collecting talent, you have to give him some credit. But his first draft was where he had the most power, and that was the year they seriously reached for Tarvaris Jackson; hitching his wagon to Jackson will forever be his most important move as a personnel guy. After that year the Vikings hired Rick Spielman who assumed a lot more power with regards to personnel moves. The Wilf's have had his back from day one. It is unfortunate because he has a lot of leeway and he has completely misused that power to this point. He will likely stay on for several more seasons, and the team is talented enough to stay mediocre even without good quarterback play. It could be a few 7-9 seasons before this team really makes a move to take steps forward.

They got to the NFC title game in spite of Childress, not because of him. I have wanted him gone for years. His play calling, coaching decisions, etc. are awful.
This is the right answer IMO. So they went for broke bringing Favre back. Fine, epic fail. When you put yourself out there to place all the hope of 1 SEASON on 1GUY and it doesn't work, you need to realize this ASAP and see if you can salvage some semblance of a season, or at least see if you can compete with Tavaris.The speed and playmaking ability in the offensive skill positions is phenomenal. AP, Rice, Harvin, Shiancoe, Berrian (dissappointing but not bad for WR#3) and they still have a couple years left from the current D. Once Favre kept getting injured, you sit him and bring in T-Jax. I understand that many people think Childress is a terrible gameday coach. As a Packer fan, I recall several occasions in which I was very happy to see AP standing on the sidelines during key moments late in close games. I have strong thoughts on our ability, as common armchair fans, to judge the effectiveness of a coach on a "gameday" level. In short, I think fans have very little basis on which to judge the quality of a coach from their vantage point on the couch. The only meaningful metric on which a common fan can judge an NFL coach in my opinion is wins and losses, and Chilly has done alright in that regard. Gameplanning, lineup decisions, clock management and the like are entirely outside our competence, as much as we all would like to believe otherwise. After all, most of us have never attended one single practice, coaches meeting or been on the sidelines during a game. That covers about 95% of what a coach does, and none of us has even the slightest basis to judge a coach's performance in those areas.However, the first post in this thread and other recent comments regarding Childress seem to be focused not on his gameday coaching but on recent personnel moves. I keep reading about how Childress traded for Moss and then Childress cut Moss. My question is a sincere one - does Childress have the final say on personnel decisions? We all know that some teams have one guy serving as both coach and GM. That's not the case with the Vikings, they have Spielman. However, some head coaches have more say in roster matters than others. It seems to me that many people are assuming that Childress has authority to make major roster decisions on his own and my question is, is that the case?My thought is that, as weak as he seems, maybe Childress is more of a scapegoat than Vikings fans want to admit, and maybe they have deeper organizational problems than are apparent at first blush. As happy as I was when Childress was given the contract extension last year, I think I would be even more happy to see the Vikings bring in a clown like Gruden, and think their problems are solved.
