***OFFICIAL*** Washington Commanders Thread (1 Viewer)

I guess since Washington is not important enough, they won't move the game.  I seem to remember Ravens being catered to last year even though they had less than 18 guys on and also were guilty of violations.  But, I guess the difference is, Goddell said he wasn't gonna bail teams out this year.  Sad, this Covaid situation could directly impact the playoffs for multiple teams -- not just WFT but also teams like the Browns.
When the NFL and NFLPA were negotiating COVID precautions for this season, I believe the NFLPA was in favor of daily testing of all players. What was decided upon, however, was weekly testing. The NFLPA's idea was basically that if a player was tested Monday, he could contract COVID Tuesday, practice and play that weekend's game all while being positive, and not turn up negative until the following Monday. In hindsight, that would have been a better idea. It's almost impossible to believe that every one of the players testing positive contracted COVID from outside sources. It's likely that many/most of them have been spreading it to each other, without knowing.

Roger f ups again...

Remember when Gibbs led a team of 100% scabs to victory over Dallas who had several stars playing? It can happen!

Coaching? He might be playing!
Our team is gonna look like one of those old timy electronic football games where you set your guys up then hit a switch that made the board vibrate, making them move according to your plan.  You always would devise these plans for what your players would do but half the time they just went every whichaway in every direction.

Anyway, that will be us on Sunday.

I think I may have just showed my age.

too bad the Raiders dirty hit on Logan Thomas took him out, otherwise he could play QB for us this weekend.

I loved that game. The secret of it was blowing real hard to change the direction of the player(s).  Pretty sure we can't do that with fullsize NFL players during a pandemic, though.

Steve Montez was signed by another teams at the end of preseason.  It looks like losing him hurts right now, but there probably wasn't a way to keep 4 qbs.  Plus, its possible just being on the roster would have made him likely to get covid.

Montez is no big loss. The truth is we would have gotten slaughtered in this game with him or without him. Hell, you can probably say the same for Allen or even Heinecke. This game was over before it started. No need to roster 4 QBs (particularly one who isn’t any good) for such a freak occurrence like this.

Not gonna lie, I’m kind of morbidly curious to watch this game now. It’s gone so beyond the pale of ridiculousness it’s gotten interesting to see just how bad it will get.

At least the announcers will have no shortage of things to talk about once the game is over after the 1st quarter. They’ll have a great time talking about all the real jobs these guys have when they are not cosplaying NFL players... like plus size male model and your WFT starting center Jon Toth.

Mr. Gibson, I hope you are ready for 40-50 total touches. We are going to need that if we have any chance to keep this respectable.

They'll be lucky to run 40 offensive plays.

Gibson for 1 yard, Gibson for -2 yards, RandoQB incomplete pass, punt.

Tress Way Day!

How is Philly's run defense?  Maybe the game plan will be to run the ball regardless.  NE won a game recently where the QB only attempted 3 passes.

This exactly. I’m trying to set the over under on number of times we advance the ball past the 50 yard line over the course of the game. Thinking 5 times might be too high.

Washington needs a QB? If you love storylines going back would be a sensational one. Would only be willing because many in the organization have explained how @whoisjwright and @RiverboatRonHC have changed the culture in the building. Thank you to the fans for all the love.

My interpretation:  RGIII needs another chapter in his book.

I'm dreading the game for the same reason. I'm worried about serious injuries with so many pickup players being so physically overmatched.

According to Breer, game has been moved to Tuesday @ 7:00 pm ET.

Don't know how many players that translates to getting back, but it certainly doesn't hurt.  Keep in mind McClaurin and McKissic trying to get back from concussion as well and 48 hours could make a difference.

Situation still dire, maybe slightly less so?

And just like that, the plus sized male model starting center era is over before it even started. We’ll never know if we could been onto some Moneyball like discovery.

Odds have to be pretty good we get one of Allen or Heinecke off the list by then, no?

Given more time it’s possible McKissic could be back as well. Also gives Terry a bit more time to get right. Some fans are complaining that this Tuesday game puts us in a bind as it’s a really short week to face Dallas again, but I disagree. We were losing that rematch with Dallas regardless. Need to keep the eyes on the prize of the Wild Card here. Philly was always our best chance of picking up a W between the two games, regardless of how many people we are able to get back by Tuesday.

That whining pales in comparison to the whining in the Eagles thread about the game being delayed. I honestly don't get it. Strong desire to play a weakened opponent I guess.

It seems to have more to do with not enough rest before the next game.
Some mentioned injury potential too, which was sort of odd when you are talking forcing a team to play with something like 25 players out, meaning backfills with inexperienced, out of shape guys off the street that would be a way larger risk to themselves and others than one less day between games. But at least I can understand that viewpoint. But the majority are of the "NFL sucks! Snyder has something on them! Blah blah blah" variety. If you want a cheap win, just say it. The NFL did the smart, safer thing here. Personally, I'd have rather seen a forfeit than forcing the WFT to try and field a team of truly unqualified people.

Re: whining. I do see why Philly fans are upset they they have to play Giants with less rest than their opponents.  That's a tough break.

At the same time, it's ridiculous to say NFL favors WFT re: schedule decisions.  No one in Philly cared we had to play LV, Dallas and Philly three weeks straight with the opponents having significantly more time off than us...an unprecedented schedule disadvantage I've never seen before. Philly was getting us at the end of that stretch, a HUGE schedule advantage for them.  Did they see that as league unfairness or proof that the league favors the eagles?  Of course not.  Just tough ####e DC. But now, apparently the league is against the Eagles. Just like with penalties home down fans always think the other teams get the breaks.

THat said it is a crappy break for them and the league probably really should move that Giants game to Monday at least

The other wild speculation being stated as fact is that montez sweat started the outbreak.  That may or may not be true but there is no evidence one way or the other.  A bit reckless honestly.  Sweat is a ####### and not sympathetic but you can't just make claims like that...that's the stuff of conspiracy theories.

Welcome to every Eagles game thread.😄

"The good news: Washington Football Team activated WR Cam Sims and DE Daniel Wise off the COVID-19 reserve list. Bad news: Neither plays QB."

So the NFL pushed back the Browns game and still Cleveland's top 2 QBs couldnt get off Covid list. Entirely possible same thing happens for Washington. Nobody controls this thing.

Brandon Sherf just placed on Covaid list.  QBs still not cleared.  In the end, not sure this delay is going to provide much benefit to Washington or Philadelphia.

I read elsewhere that WFT doctor said of 23 players WFT put on Covaid list, 20 were healthy enough to practice.  The bigger story here is that these policies are not "helping Washington."  If the league moves to a policy where vaccinated, non-sympomatic players are not tested, then those 20 players could have played.

In the end, you could argue that both teams are going to be hurt.

It's all coulda woulda shoulda of course.  Line up Tuesday and try to win.  Then line up Sunday on a short week and try to win again.  It is what it is.  F it.  Just strap up and play.

The downside of the change you describe, which I think the league has already implemented for next week's games, is that it'll involve positive players practicing and playing and spreading COVID to others. They all go home every day, they're in contact with friends and family, they're positive and they spread it, and there is no way to know who else becomes positive as a result, and what their outcomes will be.

NFL players have never been known for their willingness to report injuries, and they're going to be less likely to report being symptomatic for fear of missing games and (for lower-tier players) eventually losing a roster spot as a result. And if players don't self-report having symptoms, who's going to stop them from playing? Coaches who want them on the field? Referees? Pretty sure this is going to go badly, all things considered.

COVID's not going away but money says "play".

The probability of transferring Covid outdoors is as close to zero as to be a virtual impossibility.  We have seen a ton of players test positive lately, but (as far as I know) no instances of transference to the opposing team during a game.

How would we know if this has or has not happened? Serious question; not trying to be a jerk. I assume that players are spreading it to each other during practices, some of which involve physical contact; and it's difficult to believe that every positive case recently was a player contracting it ouside football and bringing it with them to work.
