***OFFICIAL*** Washington Commanders Thread (1 Viewer)

The Ravens shafting Ryan Grant for a shot at Crabtree really ####ed us in the comp pick game. That would have been a 4th right there, regardless of Breeland's issue.
Grant most likely would be a 5th if he had stuck with the Ravens.  The biggest factor is the average salary.  Grant signed a 4  year, $29M contract, an average of $7.25M.

Here is the link I am looking at.  I think Over the Cap has the best info on compensation picks.

Skins' record is paying off this season. With the Boys playing Monday night, this is the third straight week that the skins' game is being broadcast in this area. I think that is more than they were on all last season.

I have a feeling we end up trailing in this one.  I am skeptical in our ability to play from behind.  This may not end well.

Trent out a month.  ?
This is why you need good backups.  Fortunately, Ty Nsekhe is one of the better back ups we have.  Big test for him; he’s gonna have to rise to the occasion.

its also why we should NOT stop acquiring lineman.  Personally, I would consider bringing in Bruce Irvin and next year I would continue to draft offensive lineman.

But as for today, it’s gonna be a tough test.  Good luck Ty!

Yeah Atlanta can score and we are totally different playing from behind.  Here is what I wish:

1.  If we win the toss, don’t do the Gruden thing and defer.  Accept the ball and try to establish a lengthy drive before Atlanta touches the ball.

2.  When on offense, I do not care about Smith lighting it up.  Run and hit short passes to use up clock, limiting Falcons possessions.  Don’t get distracted by the need for smith to put up numbers.  This is a game for ball control if we can do it.

3.  On defense release the pass rush hounds.

Let’s get it on!

Nsekhe would be a starter for some teams in the league so it's great having him as a backup. At least 2 of our O-line castoffs are starters in the league (Compton, Long) and I think there's a third one. But this guy Christian didn't come along much at all in training camp and preseason so if he goes on the field we're in trouble.  I agree about continuing to draft linemen, both O and D, as well as CB's. You can never have enough, and those positions can kill you.

After our first 2 TD's from defense and special teams we'll be OK.

We got beat simply because Atlanta dominated both lines of scrimmage. We do not have the skill position players or coaching to overcome that.

Doctson actually had a good game despite those 2 early drops. He made some tough catches and blocked well again as usual. I really like his blocking. I don't blame Norman for the long PI penalty; he was beat by enough it would have been complete and probably a TD as well. I'd rather he wasn't beat at all but on balance his coverage wa OK today.

Where the heck was the defensive line? I never heard Payne's name or Allen's name during the game. Without the d-line winning, we don't have much chance to hold teams under 28.

i was happy to see Docston have a decent game.  I'm kind of happy they are struggling on offense.  If we want to compete in the next year or two we need to work out all these kinks now.

Lauvao and Scherff are getting MRI's tomorrow. This could be devastating.

147 penalty yards on the Skins. That's horrible. Didnt they practice?

RapSheet  (yeah, I know) is reporting that Scherff tore his pectoral muscle.     If that's true, that's a season-ender.

Lauvao, Scherff and Paul Richardson out for the year.    Gruden's announcing it on the Monday press conference.
Every year we get a reminder that unless you have a QB playing at a HOF level, the NFL is basically just a roll of the dice to determine whose starters stay healthy.  And we just crapped out.

I didn't really think we were particularly good, but those injuries will pretty much seal this as a lost season.

The Skins have no deep threat now.   And to think they could have had Josh Gordon for a fifth, if they could convince Alex to actually make a deep throw.

In true Redskins fashion, they’ll probably find a way to beat TB next week, we’ll all have renewed hope, then they’ll drop 7 in a row...

This is also why the unbalanced bye week scheduling is problematic.  If the Skins had an upcoming bye it would obviously be huge in terms of giving them more latitude to find replacements and retool their approach. If they'd had one recently maybe they have fewer injuries to begin with because guys aren't as worn down.

as an Eagles' fan, i'm legitimately bummed for you guys.

as an Adrian Peterson owner in fantasy, is this basically it for him now? can't overcome those kinds of losses? hoping you guys do though

They won't be able to block effectively for Peterson any more this year. How much they use him from here on out remains to be seen. They'll be behind a lot, which usually leads to Thompson being in more at RB, except that Thompson is hurt. This may be the year of Kapri Bibbs.

Yep, season officially over. No team can absorb the loss of that many lineman. It isn't like they were wining handily before this. They were barely squeaking out wins.

I feel for you guys. You guys are a good group of fans, and I hope all your injured players come back quickly and fully healthy

Offensive tackles Trent Williams (thumb surgery) and Morgan Moses (knee) were among the injured Washington Redskins who did not participate in practice on Wednesday, along with running back Chris Thompson (ribs), cornerback Quinton Dunbar (shin) and wide receiver Jamison Crowder (ankle).

Williams is expected to miss two to three more weeks. Moses could be seen working in the team’s rehab area with a bulky brace on his right knee, and Crowder was also in the rehab area, running routes.

Coach Jay Gruden said Dunbar is still dealing with a nerve issue in his lower leg and can’t run full speed. Rookies Danny Johnson or Greg Stroman would fill in at Dunbar’s starting outside cornerback spot if he can’t go.
I think I got injured reading that article.

DirecTV is allowing viewing of all games free this weekend, so if you've got DTV and don't have the NFL package you've got lots of games to choose from today.

You know, just in case the Redskin game isn't going well........

That game felt like something out of Harry Potter. "Manusky casts Spell of Incompetence on Buccanners"

Meanwhile the Browns beat the Falcons who stomped the Redskins. It's like Bizarro World.
