***OFFICIAL*** WHITE SOX THREAD (2 Viewers)

Battle of first place teams this weekend. Ranger offense heating up, albeit against crappy pitching. 8 guys with 20+ RBIs. Pitching matchups certainly favor the Sox, as they won't have to face Rogers, and they run out McCarthy (new guys cause the Rangers trouble) as well as Garland and Buerhle (who both shut down Texas in Chicago).

El Duque is on the DLKonerko and Dye are both hitting below .230They just finished one of the toughest stretches of their scheduleAnd they still have the best record in baseball.

i was at the game monday with buehle pitching (sweet comp seats from frank thomas' people, btw; 100 level, right past third base barely). is it common for him to got that deep in an outing? he pitched well but i was suprised to see him late in the game. most teams have set-up men, if my years in nyc have taught me anything. for the record, i love the ballpark. it's really nice especially when compared to shea, yankee or even wrigley. anyone have consensus as to how it compares with other parks?

20 games over .500 :hifive: The Sox are 32-8 in the first two games of each series and they have now won 18 series YTD. :towelwave:

Finally.Still not sure why nobody is talking about the Sox.

It is no longer early, they are holding off the twins who have the 2nd best record in the AL next to the Sox.

But hey, the cubs are three games above .500 so everything is focused on them here in the city.

I think no one is focused on them for several reasons:1) They got off to such an incredible start that the story has kind of burnt out in the media's eyes

2) They've basically been good, not great since that amazing start

3) The Cubs are winning games

4) The AL Central isn't given much respect

5) The White Sox won't be taken seriously until they get to the postseason and actually make some noise

6) The offensive output (or lack thereof) suggests that the Sox are playing above themselves right now

I'm giddy to be sure, but I won't really believe it until they've formally locked up a playoff spot. Until then a big part of me expects the ship to derail. At least we already have Carl Everett on the team so Kenny Williams can't give up prospects for the 3rd straight year for him. :)

As for points #1 and #2. They still have the best record in the bigs and it is no longer early. You think this would still be headline worthy.#3 is always going to haunt them.

#4 is a joke as the two best records in the AL are coming out the Central.

#5 - agreed

#6 - I think this shows how much better they can be if/when the pitching slows down. Konerko and Dye and not going to hit below .240 for the rest of the year. Big Frank is back and Pods and Tadahito continue to set the table. Imagine if the offense picks up and the pitching stays consistent.

But imagine if the pitching falls off the hitting hitting stays inconsistent.I hope they maintain this pace, I really do, but it's been too many times that we've had false hope midway through the season and ultimately it ended up being much ado about nothing.

Bring it on!! Sox will sweep the Padres this weekend!
damn - missed this the other day. You're catching us at the right time, there's a bug going around the team and 6-8 guys are sick. Peavy lost 9 pounds last week, Klesko, Nevin, Roberts, Aki and others have all missed games.

No excuses though - you straight up beat our ### last night. Your ace against our youngsta tonight.

We'll even things out tonight (i've got dinner out with wifey and her coworkers in Encinitas tonight so I'll miss the game  ).

Great game last night!! Can't believe the Sox wasted another solid outing from Buhrle. :wall: That's 4 no-decisions in a row for him.Should be a great game today to see who takes the series.

It's amazing what the White sox are doing. They are playing GREAT baseball. I am a cub fan and i wish one thing from you white sox fans. Don't pay attention to the cubs or the media that each team gets. The cubs get more attention because they have more fans, thats all. Enjoy this season because this could be real special. I am a cub fan that actually likes watching the sox this year. They play baseball the way it is supposed to be played. Also, trade for a 3B and SS. 3b for sure, Crede just doesn cut it. uribe, who knows, but he is too erratic offensively.

If Ozzie doesn't get Manager of the Year, the fix is in.What an awesome job of managing in the 9th inning. Two outs, a slow Carl Everett on 1st base, down by one run and the Sox with ONLY 4 hits the entire game.He pitch runs Willie Harris for Everett.Harris steals 2nd base.Rowand singles to score Harris to get the tie.AJ smacks a 2-run walk-off to win the game!------------------------------------------------------------------------Put it on the board.........YES!!!!!Na-na-na-nah. Na-na-na-nah. Hey, hey, hey, goo-ood bye!

What a great weekend!!The Sox are proving why they are the best team in baseball and Ozzie is making all of the right moves. They seem to be in every single ball game and have confidence that they will find a way to pull it out.The Sox will have a chance to push their lead to 8 games as KC is coming to town. :towelwave: :pickle:

Sit back, relax and strap it down....

Garland is going for #12 tonight.

0 runs and only 1 hit through 5 for Garland...
Garland is cruising and on the way to his major-leading 12th victory.0 runs and 3 hits through 8. Will he come out to finish the game?

Sox making it look easy. KC was 12-7 since Bell took over and one of the hotter teams in baseball.Hey Twins fans........COME GET SOME!! :excited:

Sox are doing great right now. They are a good team. It pains me to say it.As for the complaining (because i'm sure "whining" would be too strong of a word) about media coverage, <*cough*>urbanhack<*cough*> I will GLADLY trade you my problem (team getting a lot of media coverage despite their inconsistent ways) for your problem (best record in the majors with minimal media coverage).

Best record in Baseball and probably 2 players in the All-Star game? Buerhle and Garland. Ozzie won't be there either, has to go down to Miami for citizenship. I guess baseball really is a team sport. Anyone else on this team really worthy based on this season stats?

Where are all the doubters and critics that said Thomas would ruin the chemistry by coming back? It's amazing how Ozzie has managed to work Thomas into the lineup and yet find time to consistently play Podsednik, Rowand, Evertt and Dye. Looks like Pods got today off and will have two days rest with tomorrow being an off day.The top of the order is producing and getting into scoring position consistently, the middle of the lineup is starting to heat up and the bottom of the order continues to deliver timely hitting. :headbang: :towelwave: :banned:

In the wake of the news

June 24, 2005

On the U.S. Open telecast Saturday morning, on one of those quaint update sets meant to evoke the elegance and gentility of golf, NBC's Bob Costas was running through some of the baseball scores from the previous day. He looked disappointed there wasn't an azalea nearby, but there were birds chirping and, as far as anybody knows, the Masters doesn't have dibs on the black-capped chickadee too.

Anyway, Costas was talking about interleague games. He mentioned the Yankees' victory over the Cubs and the Red Sox's victory over the Pirates. And then, without so much as an eyebrow twitch toward the South Side, he moved on.

There was no mention of the White Sox's victory over the Dodgers. You know, the first-place White Sox. The White Sox with the best record in baseball. The White Sox who just keep rolling along in the face of doubt, skepticism and whispers of eventual collapse.

Yeah, those White Sox.

My first thought was of members of the Sox organization and of Sox fans, who spend a lot of time complaining about their lot in life. My next thought was that they had every right to be upset.

I'm the one who has told the Sox to worry about themselves and to forget they sometimes seem to be batting eighth in the pecking order around here. But geez. This team is 27 games above .500 in June, and it leads Minnesota in the American League Central by 91/2 games. By any measure those are impressive numbers. And this is the type of response they get. Beyond silence. More like neglect.

It probably was an oversight by Costas, but that's exactly the point. People always are asking the Sox to get out of the way to improve the view. People would ask the Sox to move aside to get a better look at an industrial park.

I've told fans to stop fretting about what the Cubs are doing and to stop comparing how many column inches in the Tribune are devoted to the Cubs and the Sox. I've told anyone who would listen to enjoy this season and to forget the stuff on the periphery.

But let me reiterate: Geez.

It's a Cubs' world, and the Sox are just winning like crazy in it. You can understand, then, how galling it would be to not get noticed properly for lapping the field. Sox players could be doing a Rockettes-like leg kick on the infield grass after each victory and everybody around here still would be discussing how Ron Santo kicked his heels in 1969.

The Sox will play host to the Cubs starting Friday, and it will be a very large reminder the Sox and their fans care a lot more about the Cubs and their fans than the other way around. That's OK, especially this weekend. It's OK to be obsessed in this series, and maybe the Cubs could use a little more obsession in their lives. Maybe it would make Cubs' leadoff hitter Corey Patterson forget about his four strikeouts Thursday in Milwaukee.

The Cubs have what Sox fans want: attention. The Sox have what Cub fans want: victories.

On Wednesday, Cubs manager Dusty Baker said the Sox rivalry with the Cubs is a one-way street.

"I think they like dislike us more than we dislike them," he said. "I don't see anybody over here disliking anybody."

Some of the Sox don't particularly like Cubs pitcher Carlos Zambrano because of his histrionics on the mound, but he won't pitch in this series. Too bad. Sox pitcher Mark Buehrle's recent insinuation that an unnamed Cubs pitcher throws spitballs caused a stir last week, but Buehrle won't have to answer for his comments by pitching in this series. Too bad.

Sox manager Ozzie Guillen sent out a big "howdy" to Cubs pitcher Mark Prior on Wednesday when asked if he was excited about the possibility of a Prior-Jon Garland matchup Sunday.

"Not this year," Guillen said. "Garland is better than Prior right now. Garland has pitched three years in a row without going on the [disabled list]."

It was vintage Guillen, finding the soft spot and unsheathing the knife: Prior might be the better talent, but he has been injury prone. Guillen went on to praise Prior, but it was like putting frosting on a bar of soap.

And, yes, it was Guillen who said earlier in the season that Prior and Kerry Wood get more publicity than they deserve.

He's probably right, but the world isn't always fair. Neither is this town. But there are benefits to not being the top dog. The Sox have been distracted by the team from the North Side all season. Look where it has gotten them.

The Frank Thomas bashing when he came back was ridiculous...Listening to Chicago sports radio (specifically Mike North) blaming Thomas when the Sox lost a game 6-2 or something went like this - " Thomas hits a HR, but the Sox Lose", and he goes on to say that's what the Sox do when Thomas is in the lineup.....Having Thomas back at DH gives the Sox a chance to keep Podnesnik, Rowand, and Dye fresh. Everett can rotate and give each of those players a day off once per week, and he can also DH 1 or 2x a week to keep Frank healthy.

Things are all good here going into today's game!

The White Sox have an interesting schedule in 2005.Most clubs have easy stretches and tough stretches. Not the palehose.month / games against clubs over .500April/11May/16June/7July/10August/14September/14October/2 (out of 2)As it turns out, this is fairly balanced. The challenge here is that this should test their stamina a bit more. They must continue to play at a high level or they are more likely to hit the skids. However, they have such a huge lead already in the division I don't think it matters. They've pretty mcuh sown up the AL central to me.

In need of another starter , soon. McCarthy proved he isn't ready and El Duque may be too old. Looks like Kenny is going to go after someone, he's denying everything but with the Twinkies and Tribe playing so well he has no choice. Jerry has to open up the pocket book. Crede and Uribe are going to have to do something with their bats in the 2nd half. The big lead is great but Garland and Buerhle are due to hit a bump hopefully Garcia takes charge during that period.

 Why the heck would Texas trade their best pitcher when they're in the middle of the playoff hunt?
